Chapter Text

That morning, Wednesday woke up to a dream.

Not the kind of dream one has while in the depths of R.E.M. sleep.

No.

This dream was the type that can more accurately be associated with the definition of a life goal.

But she supposes it does match the other meaning of the word as well, considering she’s had many unconscious fantasies about this moment.

Because, that morning, she woke up with Enid still sleeping peacefully in her arms.

The wolf was laying almost entirely on top of Wednesday, whose arms never once fell from Enid’s back, keeping them locked in the position they fell asleep in for the entire night. Which was surprising considering how much Enid usually moves and fidgets in her sleep.

And the fact that they remained in each other’s arms as they slept, as well as the overwhelming feeling of safety and comfort that Enid brings her, makes Wednesday do something she has never done before. She closes her eyes, leans her head back against the pillow, and simply goes back to bed.

Normally she finds it impossible to return to slumber once the spell of sleep has been broken, but with the warmth and pressure of Enid’s body, the raven is lulled back into unconscious bliss within minutes.

The quiet that followed Wednesday’s brief stint of alertness is disrupted nearly two hours later; as Enid begins to stir from her own unconscious wonderland.

The world slowly trickles back to the wolf as she takes in the feeling of the smaller girl underneath her; how their bodies were pressed against each other with a comfortable familiarity, how the cold calm of Wednesday evened out her naturally high werewolf temperature, how the raven’s heartbeat had fallen in sync with her own.

She pulls her head out of the crook of Wednesday's neck and takes a few seconds to admire the sleeping face of the girl she loves, taking in all the little details of the surprisingly soft features that are usually pulled into some sort of sharp expression.

Those few seconds turned into almost half an hour of Enid just staring at Wednesday, committing each and every little freckle and scar to memory.

“How long do you plan on staring at me like an amateur stalker?” Wednesday’s voice breaks the silence as she opens her eyes and stares up at the wolf with a hint of a smile on her face.

“Until I can sketch the constellations of your freckles from memory alone.” She says with a dreamy smile and a sparkle in her eyes before her tone shifts to something more playful. “Or until you stab me. Whichever happens first.” Enid adds on with a deviously flirtatious wink as she looks down into Wednesday’s eyes.

“As enjoyable as it would be to remain here for the multiple days it would take for you to memorize the random pattern of increased melanin that dots my face, I am not sure how much longer I can stay here before my bladder wins it’s war against my willpower.” Wednesday says with her usual even tone before she leans up and delivers a quick kiss to the wolf’s lips, pulling away far too quickly for either of them to fully enjoy the contact.

“Alright, fine.” Enid concedes as she lazily flops to the side, off of Wednesday and onto the small sliver of the remaining twin bed. “But only if you make sure to change the bandage on your shoulder while you’re up.” She bargains as she watches her girlfriend slip out from between the covers before standing at the side of the bed.

“I will tend to it after I take a much needed shower.” Wednesday answers as she enters her closet, grabbing a simple change of clothes and her small box of toiletries.

“Nooo!” Enid dramatically yet tiredly whines out as Wednesday emerges from her closet with her shower supplies in hand. “Once you take a shower you don’t get back in bed for the rest of the day.” She points out her silent observation of Wednesday’s usual routine. “And that means we won’t cuddle again until bedtime tonight.”

“Enid, it’s nearly noon.” Wednesday says as she looks down at the wolf laying in the mix of black bedsheets, feeling her heart surge at the beautiful mess of color that was contrasting so perfectly with her void of a bed.

“OH SHIT!” Enid yells out as she shoots up into a sitting position, panic in her eyes as she nearly falls out of bed due to her legs being tangled in the sheets. “We’re late for class!”

“It’s Saturday.” Wednesday says with a hint of amusement in her voice, despite the playful eye roll directed at her girlfriend.

“Well, that’s just even more reason to stay in bed!” Enid argues, and Wednesday has to give her some credit, she does make a good point. But she refuses to spend the day idly swooning in the arms of her mate, at least not while she has a new mystery to obsess over.

“That is exactly what every other student in this stone entombed hell-hole is thinking, leaving the library void of others.” Wednesday says as she takes a step closer to Enid, who was still sitting on the bed. “And that makes it the perfect time for us to research werewolf transformations happening without the full moon.” The ‘us’ was not lost on Enid, who instantly sprang up from the bed and stood in front of Wednesday with a wide smile on her face.

“So you want me all to yourself in the library?” She says as her smile shifts into something that’s more of a mischievous smirk. “You know that’s a popular makeout spot, right?”

“Enid.” Wednesday replies with her usual chipped tone, but the teasing look swirling in those dark brown eyes lets Enid know exactly what the raven’s goal is. “Are you really under the impression that I would partake in such activities with you in a place our peers have deemed appropriate for clandestine meetings?” Wednesday then takes a step closer to Enid, trapping the wolf between her and the bed, ensuring there was no escape. She looks up into Enid’s eyes with a smirk on her face as she leans in closer. “If I desire to engage in such an adolescent pastime with you, I will do so regardless of the student body’s social preconceptions of acceptable locale.” She says in a low, almost teasing, whisper.

“Translation from academic English to normal English; you want to makeout with me, and you don’t care were we do it.” Enid shoots back with a massive smirk on her face as she closes the distance between them fully, wrapping her arms around the raven’s back. But Wednesday was unable to return the embrace due to the clothes and shower supplies still in her hands.

Enid gently presses a kiss against the soft lips that always wax oh so poetically about all kinds of horrid and macabre atrocities. That makes the kind and loving words Wednesday has been showering her with these last few hours feel like she’s finally won a hard fought war for the raven’s softness.

And that makes it all the more bitter sweet when Wednesday pulls away from the kiss, causing a whine to slip from Enid’s mouth.

A sound that convinces Wednesday to reconsider her retreat.

The raven drops the items in her hands onto the bed next to Enid before she wraps her arms around Enid’s shoulders, wasting no time before she’s grazing her tongue across the wolf’s lips.

Enid allows the intrusion into her mouth and meets it in kind, letting their kiss progress into a full on makeout session.

And that’s when Enid realizes; as they were making out last night, while she was so happy she was beyond cloud nine and all the way on planet nine, Wednesday was learning.

It’s what the raven does. She observes and categorizes the actions and responses of others.

But that just means she now knows exactly what to do to Enid to render the wolf a blushing mess of panting breaths and quiet moans in a matter of seconds.

Enid’s legs give out from underneath her as Wednesday’s tongue expertly works it’s magic, delicately gliding across all of Enid’s weak spots, forcing the wolf back down onto the bed as her entire body turns to jelly.

While Enid fell back onto the bed due to her non-functioning legs, Wednesday remained standing, not following the wolf down to the mattress even if she desperately wanted to. Instead she reaches for the discarded shower supplies on the bed next to Enid, and the wolf quickly tries to stop her from leaving.

“Stay.” Enid says with a soft voice as she tightens the arms she still had wrapped around Wednesday’s waist. “Please.” She begs as she looks up at the raven, something that Wednesday finds to be almost painfully cute. It nearly makes her give in to Enid’s pleas, but she remains headstrong in her decision to shower for one reason alone.

“We still have blood in our hair, meine Wölfin.” (My Wolf) Wednesday reaches out and runs her hand through the blonde’s hair, letting the flakes of dried blood that fall loose accentuate her point. “Any other day and I would willingly waste away in your arms, but the hellish itch that the dry blood conjures in my scalp is ruining my ability to fully appreciate our time together.” The blood in Wednesday’s hair wasn’t even her own, it had been deposited on her last night when she was enveloped by the battle wounded werewolf. She can’t even begin to comprehend how Enid feels considering her hair was matted down with dried and flaking blood.

She looks beautiful.

She always does when covered in viscera and blood.

“All I’m hearing is that you love to cuddle!” Enid cheers out with a wide smile as she pulls Wednesday closer to herself and buries her face in the raven’s abdomen.

“No, Enid, I do not love to cuddle.” She says with a stern voice as she narrows her eyes down at the wolf, even if the girl still has her face buried in the black nightgown and can’t see. “What I love is your scent, what I love is the warmth of your body and the comfort your proximity brings. So no, I do not love cuddling, I love you.” Wednesday finishes her declaration of love with the same even tone she began with.

“God. Who knew Wednesday Addams would be such an effortless romantic?” Enid says with nothing but overflowing affection in every facet of her being as she leans even farther into the cool, calming void that was her mate’s torso.

“It was an inevitability. Romance runs in my family like a hereditary disease.” Wednesday says like it’s a horrible inconvenience and not the thing that makes Enid the happiest she has ever felt.

“Well, I can’t believe how lucky I am that your disease chose me.” Wednesday can feel Enid’s wide smile pressed up against her stomach without even seeing it, and the fact that her mate is so overjoyed to be in a relationship with her warms Wednesday’s heart and spawns an uncharacteristically wide smile on her face.

“I share the sentiment.” Wednesday admits as she keeps running her fingers through her girlfriend’s hair, the flakes of blood that covered her scalp served as a reminder of the lengths the girl would go to defend her, and that brings with it an ironclad reassurance that Enid is the only one for her. “It is quite incredible that I have been inextricably entangled to a wolf that is unbound by the moon.” Her words cause Enid to remove herself from Wednesday's torso, her adorable blue eyes staring up through her lashes at the raven.

“That’s not right.” Enid says with what seems like a permanent smile spread across her beautiful pink lips. “I’m bound to you, and you are my moon. You are mi luna oscura.” (My dark moon) The wolf removes her arms from around Wednesday’s waist before reaching up and grabbing the raven by the collar of her nightgown, gently pulling her down and bringing their lips together in a slow and passionate kiss, working their mouths together with a now familiar motion. It only lasts a second though, as Wednesday pulls away with her own smaller smile.

“And you claim me to be the effortless romantic.” Wednesday says as she stares into Enid’s eyes with a gentle passion. And Enid knows, if Wednesday could see herself now, she would hate how much she looks like Gomez as he stares at Morticia. But that look on Wednesday’s face was for Enid only, and she would never tell the raven how her gaze reflects such passionate love; much like the looks the girl’s parents shared. Even in the brief time Enid was in the company of both of them she could clearly see the love between them, and now she can see how Wednesday has inherited a whole host of different romantic traits from the two. “Now, as enchanting and captivating as you are, if I don't wash this blood out of my hair soon I will scratch my scalp raw.” The raven says as she steps out of Enid’s arms, far too tempted to give in and acquiesce to the wolf’s pleas of a cuddle-filled Saturday if she stays in the girl’s warmth any longer.

“Ugh, fine.” Enid says with a sad grunt as she flops back down to the bed with all the overly dramatic flair she usually carries, something that makes Wednesday playfully roll her eyes. “Just be quick, I wanna kiss you some more.”

“I would recommend you take a shower yourself, your hair is looking less blonde and more pink.” She says, but her words go unheeded as Enid simply rolls onto her side and grabs the pillow, bringing it up to her chest and nuzzling her face into the black fabric.

“Mmmhmm.” Enid mumbles out into the fabric as she snuggles even deeper into the pillow, seemingly falling asleep in a matter of seconds as the remaining scent of Wednesday on the silk pillowcase pulled her under in record time.

Wednesday just lets out a quiet chuckle as she grabs her toiletries and fresh set of clothes from where she dropped them on the bed before taking her leave, sending one last longing filled look behind her at her now snoring girlfriend.

The sound of the door opening wakes Enid up some time later, even though she didn’t remember falling back asleep in the first place.

But once she looks up at the dorm’s entrance all traces of sleep vanish from her mind as she quickly sits up in bed.

“Holy shit.” Enid lets out a gasp of awestruck disbelief as she takes in the sight of Wednesday entering their room, holding her worn nightgown in one hand and her shower supplies in the other. Her small frame was covered in a long black hoodie and black jeans, but the most shocking part was her hair.

Wednesday’s usual braids are nowhere to be seen, and long waves of free falling black locks flowed from her scalp.

It was like a cascading waterfall of darkness, as if the void of space had somehow turned into physical form and manifested in the long strands of Wednesday’s hair.

It was breathtakingly beautiful and life-changingly shocking.

And Enid never wanted to spend another second of her continued existence staring at anything but the sight of Wednesday’s wavy black hair falling down her small shoulders.

“You look as if you’ve seen a real life unicorn.” Wednesday sarcastically remarks as she smirks at the shocked face Enid was making.

“I mean, seeing a unicorn wouldn’t even come close to comparing to how rare it is to see you without your braids.” Her eyes never loose that glistening wonder as she speaks, and neither does her voice.

“The claw wound on my shoulder has aggravated my arrow wound and I am still unable to raise my arm higher than my chest.” Wednesday says as her unexpected nerves force her to inform Enid why she no longer had her signature hairstyle. “I was able to wash my hair with only one hand, but braiding it is unfortunately not possible at the moment.” Her gaze shifts around all of the surfaces in the room before returning to the sleepy blonde still sitting among the black bedsheets. “Once I find Thing I am going to force him to assist me in returning my hair to it’s usual style.” She gives one last look around the room for Thing before entering her closet, depositing her nightgown in the hamper and her toiletries on the shelf.

“Why don’t you just leave it down.” Enid asks once Wednesday reemerges from her closet. “We don’t have classes and we’re just gonna spend most of the day in the library together. No one goes to the library on a weekend so no one will see you all vulnerable and cute.” It's a logical and innocent question, but Wednesday can't help the swell of self-consciousness that flows through her.

“I do not put much stock in the opinions of others, Enid. I could not care less who sees me with my hair down.” Her voice is sharp and defensive, something that instantly raises Enid's concern, knowing that tone was one of the ways Wednesday shrinks in on herself and walls herself off.

“Oh. Then why do you, like, literally never let your hair down?” She asks delicately, not wanting to force Wednesday to say anything she's not comfortable with while also trying to encourage her to talk about it.

“It’s a… sensory issue.” She eventually manages through pursed lips, feeling a little ridiculous over her reasoning. Talking about her autism and her weaknesses related to it is something she’s not used to doing, but she knows she can trust Enid, so she pushes through her fear and tells her mate. “I cannot stand how the loose strands of hair so freely and unexpectedly touch the skin on my ears and neck.” Her voice is quiet as she focuses on a spot somewhere over Enid’s head, feeling too vulnerable to make eye contact.

“Oh, okay.” Enid says with a sudden understanding. “What if I did your braids for you?” She shyly asks, trying not to let her hope become too overtly apparent. It has always been a dream of hers to run her fingers through her partner’s hair since she was old enough to know what love was, and with Ajax that wasn’t even an option. But with Wednesday there’s practically miles of hair for her claws to play with.

“The last time I let someone else touch my hair was when I was eight.” Wednesday says as she looks away, one of the signs that tells Enid the raven was out of her comfort zone.

“Don’t worry, I'll be gentle.” Enid tries to reassure the raven, hoping that she’ll be able to help Wednesday in any way she can. The added excitement about touching those long black locks of hair is just a bonus.

“No. I need you to pull my hair taut while you do the braids.” Enid’s heart soars in her chest at the fact that Wednesday just gave her permission, even if it was in a very roundabout kinda way. “If it’s too loose it's functionally the same as not having braids at all.” Wednesday adds on with a calm and even tone, even though she’s now looking out the spiderweb window and very decidedly not at Enid.

“But, I don’t want to hurt you.” The soft tone of her voice is what finally gets Wednesday to look her in the eyes, and once she does it’s to affix her with an annoyed glare.

“Enid, how many times do I need to tell you that-” Wednesday begins, but Enid quickly interrupts her by finishing the rest of the raven’s sentence.

“‘-I cannot physically harm you.’ Yeah, I know.” She says with a very affectionate smile directed at her girlfriend before she reaches out and gently runs her fingers down the side of Wednesday’s hair. “C’mon.” Enid drops her hand from the girl’s hair and grabs her hand instead, pulling her towards the old wooden desk chair. “Sit down and I’ll get started.” She says while quickly running to the girl’s closet to grab her black comb. “Are you ready?” She asks once she returns to the now sitting raven’s side, earning a nod of confirmation from Wednesday.

With a wide smile on her face Enid begins to delicately run the comb over Wednesday’s scalp, expertly parting the girl’s hair directly down the middle, continuing down the back of her head until the entirety of her hair is split into two sides and draped over each of the raven’s shoulders. The wolf rakes the teeth of the comb down the length of Wednesday’s black hair, her fingers trailing behind to ensure all remaining knots were smoothed out; and the fact that she was also living out her life-long fantasy as she did so was just a happy coincidence.

The smooth and delicate softness of the long locks of hair flowing between her fingers absolutely melts her heart, turning the insides of her chest into a pleasingly warm goo.

God.

She really loves Wednesday.

She loves her mate.

Her mate who almost died because of her.

“I’m sorry for how long it took me to realize what you mean to me.” Enid quietly apologizes for her long overdue confession and the pain it caused her mate.

“It’s alright Enid.” Wednesday tries to reassure her girlfriend, because at this moment, as Enid’s claws rake through her hair and scratch her scalp, nothing else matters; not their past, or their future, just this moment of closeness with her love.

“It’s not though.” She whines out as her fingers start to slow in their path through the raven’s hair. “You almost died because of me.” The sad tone of Enid’s voice and the slight shake of her hands cause Wednesday to turn the chair around and face the wolf.

“No, Enid.” Wednesday says as she reaches out and grabs the hands that now hung lamely at the wolf’s sides. “I almost died because of the curse.” Her tone is full of nothing but soft affection as she looks up into Enid’s blue eyes. “You saved me. Just as you always have. From the Hyde, from the Wendigo’s, from myself. And now from the curse too.” The way she’s looking up at Enid, combined with her unusually soft voice and free-flowing hair filled Enid’s heart with warmth while also crushing it with guilt at being the reason for Wednesday’s pain.

“Yeah, but I shouldn’t’ve tried to ignore my feelings when I first started to realize I had a crush on you.” She looks down at the ground between them as her face pulls into a frown. Wednesday can practically feel the guilt radiating off of the wolf.

“So why did you?” Wednesday asks, wanting to know if there was some greater problem regarding the wolf’s feelings so she can remove it from existence.

“I don’t know.” Enid says with a half shrug of her shoulders, raising their joined hands slightly in the process. “I was scared.” She admits with a much quieter yet still guilt filled tone. “I mean, I’m just this girl who couldn’t even wolf out on time, but your this perfect, super smart, insanely beautiful rich girl.” With that Enid finally looks back into the dark brown eyes of the raven. “I just didn’t think you could ever like me back.” The way she says this makes it clear to Wednesday that it’s still an insecurity Enid holds, even after their mutual confessions of love and multiple kisses. But at least now she has a target to annihilate, even if it is Enid’s feelings of self-doubt.

“I am not perfect Enid, perfect is a concept created by normies as an excuse to give up and stop improving oneself.” Wednesday says with her usual tone of neutral distaste before it shifts into something softer, a tone that’s only reserved for the girl she’s looking up at. “And you are far more amazing than you give yourself credit for. You are the strongest werewolf I have ever seen. You are the kindest person I have ever met. You are the most breathtakingly beautiful girl to have ever graced the earth. And you are everything to me.” She stands from the chair, leaving almost no space between their two bodies as she stares into the eyes of her mate. “I love you, Enid. I have loved you since we first met, and long before then as well.” Her left hand lets go of Enid’s before she brings it up to cup the wolf’s cheek. “I love you today, I will love you tomorrow, and I will love you until time no longer matters and the universe ceases to exist. Because you, Enid Sinclair, are, and always will be, the only one my heart desires.” Wednesday finishes with a small smile as she leans in and presses a quick but affectionate kiss to Enid’s lips.

“Oh my God, stop! You’re gonna make me cry.” Enid says with tears threatening to spill over her heavily blushing cheeks. “That's the nicest and most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.” The wolf nearly whines out as her smile strains against not only her face, but seemingly against the laws of physics as well.

“Then prepare yourself, for I have not even begun to verbalize the depth of my love for you.” Wednesday smoothly says as her own face works itself into a pleased smirk.

“Bring it.” Enid shoots back with a cocky smirk and an equally cocky tone, all while she gives Wednesday a smooth wink, setting the raven’s heart on fire and bringing an ever attractive blush to the girl’s cheeks.

“You have no idea what you’re in for.” She delivers like a threat, but it only serves to embolden the wolf, who leans in even closer to the raven until her every exhale is gracing Wednesday’s lips.

“Then I guess you’re just gonna have to show me.” Enid brings her hand up to run her fingers through Wednesday’s hair, but that causes the long strands of black to shift against the girl’s neck. The feeling of the hairs brushing against her skin makes Wednesday shiver in a very stiff and obviously uncomfortable way. She extends her neck out, like a baby bird being fed, in an attempt to distance herself from the unwanted sensation, and that just highlights how uncomfortable Wednesday is with her hair down. “Right, sorry.” Enid says as she gathers the loose hair in her hands to prevent it from touching the girl’s neck again. “Let’s work on getting your braids sorted first.” She begins as she pushes the girl back down into the chair, moving behind her before leaning down to whisper the rest in Wednesday’s ear. “And then you can show me all the different ways you love me.” This time Wednesday shivers for an entirely new reason.

“You’re awfully confident for someone who blushes brighter than Mercury when called beautiful.” Wednesday teases, even as she leans into the hands that comb through her hair.

“Says the one who’s heartbeat does a drum-roll whenever I call her a good girl.” And, as if to prove her point, she can hear Wednesday's heart jump in her chest, causing Enid to smirk at the predictable yet adorable reaction. “Like that.” She says while taking one of the already separated halves of Wednesday’s hair and separating it even further into three more sections.

“You’re insufferable.” She rolls her eyes, despite the blush that crawls up her cheeks at the fact that Enid noticed her humiliating reaction, and what triggers it.

“And you are incorrigible.” Enid shoots back with her teasing tone as she quickly falls into the easy and playful back and forth they often share, the kind that Wednesday had never before experienced until Enid came into her life.

“Mi amor.” She says as she summons an immense amount of self restraint to stop herself from turning around and holding the hands that nimbly work her hair into braids. “I do not understand how you could ever believe yourself to be unworthy of a place at my side.” Wednesday continues as Enid wraps the elastic band around the end of the first braid, allowing the raven to give in to her desire and spin the chair around, grabbing onto Enid’s hands before the wolf can begin working on the second braid. “You are already an Addams in everything but name, and even that I plan to fix.” She says as she looks up into Enid’s blue eyes, the same eyes that stole her heart on the night of the blood moon.

“If you want me to ever finish braiding your hair then your gonna have to stop saying things that make me want to kiss you.” Enid says with a soft smile as she leans down to rest her forehead against Wednesday’s.

“You’re not making a very good argument.” Wednesday says as her eyes flick down to Enid’s lips, showing exactly what was on her mind.

“Alright, if you stop talking now,” She begins as she removes her forehead from the raven’s and moves to whisper her next words directly in Wednesday’s ear. “I’ll make sure you can’t talk later.” Her low tone is deathly attractive as she purposefully lets her breath graze against the girls ear. Only once she hears Wednesday’s heart rate increase does she pull away to look into those brown eyes once again. “How does that sound?”

“I accept your terms.” Wednesday says with a smirk, both at the negotiation tactics used by her mate and the plethora of thoughts that run through her mind about what the wolf has planned for her.

“Good girl.” Enid finishes with a cocky voice and a teasing wink, causing Wednesday's heart to jump in her chest and a blush to take over her cheeks.

Enid lets out a little laugh at Wednesday's consistent reaction before she closes the rest of the distance between their lips and presses a quick but passionate kiss to the raven’s mouth. Wednesday responds by wrapping her arms around Enid’s neck and deepening the kiss, working the wolf’s bottom lip with a passionate need.

But then Enid pulled away, stepping out of Wednesday’s arms and earning a quiet growl of discontent from the raven. Something that caused the corner of the wolf’s mouth to tick up into a smirk.

She desperately wanted to give in and continue kissing the lips she’s dreamed about more times than she can count, but she knows that the more Wednesday’s unbraided hair bothers her, the crankier she’ll be later.

“Braids first, kissing later.” Enid says as she quickly moves behind Wednesday once again and gets back to work on the second braid, running her fingers through the black waves of hair that still fall freely down the raven’s back. She separates the last half of Wednesday’s loose hair into three sections, taking longer than strictly necessary just so she can fully commit the feeling of the silky strands to memory.

But all good things must come to an end.

And once Enid finished tying the end of the second braid off with a black elastic, it was done; Wednesday’s hair was in it’s usual style and Enid’s short lived fantasy was over.

She watches as Wednesday runs her hands down the twin braids, appraising them for their acceptability. The raven even stands from the chair and walks over to Enid’s full-length mirror to double check.

The little nod of approval Wednesday does fills Enid with a warm joy at the fact that her girlfriend is satisfied with her work. There was also the hope that Wednesday might ask her to braid her hair again tomorrow.

“You did an acceptable job.” Wednesday says, further propelling Enid’s feelings of mounting joy. Only to then deflate said joy by saying something Enid wasn’t expecting. “Now, I am going to get a head start on our research.” Enid has to suppress a whine as Wednesday grabs her bag and ties her boots; all chances of a quick makeout sesh seemingly getting more and more unlikely. “I hope you'll join me soon.” But then the hope of a little secret library fun makes Enid’s mood quickly improve once again.

“Yeah, I just gotta take a shower real quick.” Enid jumps up and nearly sprints towards her closet, but Wednesday holds out her hand and stops her before the wolf can cross the center line of the room.

“I’ll see you later, mi magnífica loba.” Wednesday says as she pulls Enid down and delivers a quick kiss to Enid’s lips, stepping away right after to avoid getting any dried blood on her freshly cleaned skin.

“Miss you already.” Enid says, earning an eye roll from her girlfriend despite the slight smile pulling at the raven’s lips. As Enid watches Wednesday walk out the door an idea begins to bloom in the wolf’s mind, and now is the perfect time to start setting it in motion.

So Enid grabs her shower supplies as well as her chosen outfit for the day before making her way down to the showers, sending a quick series of texts to Pugsley as she walks, one of which being a request to teach her how to use Wednesday’s crystal ball and the other is to ask if she can borrow some of his explosives.

By the time Enid finished setting up her plans and made it to the library she found Wednesday tucked away in the farthest corner, already entombed in a mountain of books. It seems she had gone through the entire library and grabbed any and all books related to werewolves or uncommon outcasts.

And there was a lot.

So much so that Enid had to wiggle and worm her way around the stacks on the floor in order to get to the open chair next to Wednesday.

“Someone’s been busy.” She says with a bit of an amused and amazed tone, impressed that Wednesday managed to find over a hundred books in the hour it took for Enid to shower and choose her outfit. An outfit that consisted of her teal San Jose Sharks t-shirt, covered by an unzipped black hoodie that she borrowed from Wednesday’s closet, and a pair of ripped pink jeans with black leggings underneath.

As soon as the raven looked at Enid she noticed her hoodie on the wolf’s torso, and a slight smirk pulled at her lips as she ever so slightly tilted her head and raised her eyebrow. A look that both questioned Enid and told her that she already knows the answer.

“Either you’ve had a very dramatic shift in fashion sensibilities in the brief time since I last saw you, or you desired my presence strongly enough to risk raiding my closet.” Wednesday’s gaze falls to the hoodie Enid was wearing before focusing back on her blue eyes, making it clear she was talking about the borrowed clothing.

“I’m sorry!” Enid whines out before she continues to explain her reasons with slight panic. “I know I should have asked you first but I just couldn’t help it. I came back to the room and I couldn’t smell your scent anymore and it just kinda hurt to breathe without it so I borrowed this from your closet before I left.” Her guilt causes her words to get quieter as she speaks, but the silence of the library meant Wednesday heard all of it.

“You experience physical pain without my scent?” Her curiosity has been beyond piqued with Enid’s admission, the book she was reading now forgotten on the table as her entire focus was dedicated to the wolf sitting next to her.

“Oh, yeah. It’s a werewolf thing.” Enid begins to explain, somewhat nonchalantly, as if the information didn’t matter all that much. “The scent of a wolf’s mate has a calming effect-” It’s then that Wednesday interrupts her by completing the rest of her sentence.

“Increased dopamine and serotonin, yes.” Wednesday quotes what little of that pamphlet she was actually able to read. “But why does the absence of the scent of one’s mate result in physical pain?” She asks, desperate to know the answer to the question that has been burning inside of her for the past week.

“It’s not really pain, it’s more like…” She pauses as she tries to think of the best way to say this, but Wednesday beats her too it and shares her own experience.

“Like there’s something inside you telling you that the air is wrong; That there’s something missing from the room that is even more important than oxygen.” Wednesday says with a low and sure tone as she looks into the eyes of her mate, hoping that she’ll finally learn what this strange feeling is.

“Yeah… That’s exactly what it feels like.” Enid says with a confused tone as she shoots an equally confused look at Wednesday. “How did you know?” She asks, but quickly follows it up with another question. “Was it in one of these books?” She shifts her gaze from Wednesday to the book she had been reading in an attempt to decipher what it was about.

“No.” Wednesday says with a shake of her head, drawing Enid’s attention from the book on the table back to her eyes. “I feel it too.” She punctuates her point by pulling her sleeve up her arm enough to reveal the black Nevermore bow-tie that was wrapped around her wrist, Enid’s black bow-tie. “I acquired those pamphlets from the werewolf student center in an attempt to figure out what I was experiencing.” She explains as she pulls her sleeve back down to her wrist, covering the piece of fabric that she stole from Enid’s closet. “I initially believed it to be a side effect of the curse, but my father informed me that it was something related to werewolves and then directed me to those pamphlets.” The somewhat annoyed tone Wednesday uses doesn't help the confusion the wolf is feeling at the fact that the seer somehow has first hand experience with this.

“How do you feel it if you’re not a wolf?” Enid asks as she begins to question the entirety of her knowledge about both humans and werewolves.

“I believe it is one of the positive parts of the Addams curse.” Wednesday says with a slight sigh, a little exasperated over the fact that the curse was forcing her through so many unexpected changes. “My body is adapting to become a better match for your wolf.” She explains as she stares down at the book in front of her but doesn’t read it, just using it as an excuse to avoid direct eye contact with Enid, somewhat afraid of how the wolf will react. “I suspect that I have already developed scent glands in my neck, and last night my canine teeth suddenly elongated as I was bandaging your back.” Enid instantly connects Wednesday’s fang growth with that kiss the raven delivered to her neck last night, and that basically confirms Wednesday wanted to give her a mate bite. That sudden realization makes her heart go into overdrive and a poorly restrained smile spread across her face.

“So you’re turning into a werewolf?” She’s never really cared much if her future mate was another wolf or not, always preferring to date based off their personality and not their powers. But the possibility that Wednesday was becoming a werewolf filled her with an excited joy she has never felt before. The thought of running with Wednesday on a full moon, of being mate marked by the raven, makes Enid feel like a dream she’s never had before just came true.

“I am unsure if it will be full blown lycanthropy or just an amalgamation of various other werewolf traits.” She runs her mind through all of her relatives in an attempt to recall if something like this has ever happened to any other Addams before, hoping to get some kind of answer for both of their sakes, but she regretfully comes up with nothing. Thankfully, Enid has an idea of how to test her current lycan development, even if it is a bit of a shot in the dark.

“Give me your hand real quick.” Enid says, not as a question but more of a gentle demand, and it was kind of cute how easily Wednesday held her hand out. “The scent thing is to reinforce pack loyalty and ensure fidelity between mates. It also helps to keep other wolves away from a mated wolf.” She explains as she turns Wednesday’s hand over until the palm is facing up. Then Enid takes her other hand and presses her thumb down on Wednesday’s wrist before pushing up into the palm, causing five, three-inch long black claws to shoot out of Wednesday’s finger tips.

Neither girl knows what to say as they both look at the raven’s fingers with shocked amazement and confusion. The sight of Wednesday’s claws makes Enid’s heart jump in her chest as it basically confirms that the raven has started her own werewolf puberty and might even wolf out on the next full moon.

The first one to move is Wednesday, who flexes and curls her fingers in an attempt to determine if what she was seeing was actually real or not. She even takes her other hand, the one without claws sticking out of it, and pokes at the unexpectedly elongated keratin that now extended from the tips of her fingers.

They were undeniably sharp and surprisingly strong compared to her usual fingernails, which amuses her more than that time Pubert set fire to Pugsley’s backpack only to find out it was filled with explosives. She can’t help the grin that spreads across her face at the fact that she now had ten razor sharp knives on hand at all times, making her deadlier than ever.

Enid brings her hand up and starts to inspect Wednesday’s claws too, running her fingers down the sides of the long nails and even going as far as extending one of her own rainbow-colored claws, tapping it against the black claw on Wednesday’s index finger to feel how closely they matched her own claws in size, sharpness, and strength.

The two girls get so lost in their amazed inspection of Wednesday’s claws that they fail to notice the sound of the library’s doors opening as someone else enters the room, as do they miss the two pairs of footsteps approaching them.

“Hey, fancy seeing you two here!” A voice yells out from next to the table, startling both girls and causing Wednesday to accidentally slice Enid’s palm down the center. The wolf pulls her hand away in pain and holds the thumb of her other hand against her palm, but once she looks at it she thankfully sees that the Addams curse prevented any damage. With a sigh of relief Enid looks back at Wednesday and sees that the raven has flipped her hand over on the table and folded her fingers underneath her palm to hide the claws from the intruder; None other than Yoko Tanaka, accompanied by her girlfriend Divina.

“Yoko, Divina.” Wednesday greets them as calmly as she can considering her claws were still extended and she couldn’t find a way to retract them. “I assume you two did not come here to study.” Enid quickly reaches out and grabs Wednesday’s hand like it was something she’s done countless times before. In an instant she flips Wednesday’s hand over and pushes her thumb down onto her palm before moving down towards the wrist in the opposite of what she had done previously, and this time the action sheaths the black claws back into Wednesday’s fingers. She let her hand stay holding Wednesday’s for much longer than necessary before reluctantly letting go, and Yoko’s keen vampire eyes catch it.

“Who the hell studies on a weekend?” Divina asks as she looks over the large piles of books that surrounded the pair, giving away the fact that her and Yoko were here for something unrelated to reading.

“These two, apparently.” Yoko adds before she lets a mischievous smirk spread across her face. “That is, if they even were studying…” She finishes with a wiggle of her eyebrows directed at Enid specifically, teasing the wolf about her feelings and the talk they had last night.

“We’re searching for information on werewolves who can transform without the full moon.” Wednesday instantly responds with a dry voice, not wanting to give Yoko the satisfaction of Enid’s shy and blushing reaction.

“Why?” Divina asks as she looks away from Wednesday’s glare to Enid, knowing the reason they’re looking for that information was somehow related to the wolf at the table. “Did something happen?” She questions again, earning another, albeit softer, glare from the raven.

“Enid transformed last night.” Wednesday answers as she shifts her gaze from the siren to the wolf, looking her over for any signs that she was uncomfortable with the two girls knowing. But Enid looks almost proud, and that helps to relieve Wednesday’s worries that the wolf was feeling negatively about her unexpected shift.

“What?” Divina lets out a shocked gasp as she stares at Enid with wide eyes as her mouth hangs open, making her look comically similar to a fish. And Yoko was just as surprised, frozen in place as she stared at the two girls sitting at the table.

“Yeah. I wolfed out during the new moon last night.” Enid says with a slight shrug, even though the smirk pulling at the corner of her lips displayed just how happy she really feels. Her whole life she’s always been a runt, a disappointment, but now she’s an alpha that can shift no matter what phase the moon is. And she’s dating Wednesday; she’s honestly never been happier before in her life.

“How?” Yoko asks, her eyes were hidden behind her sunglasses, but her raised eyebrows gave away the fact that her eyes were just as wide as her girlfriends. When Yoko left Enid last night the wolf was still sitting in her bed cuddled up with her favorite stuffed plushie, so learning that she wolfed out in the twelve hours between then and now was an incredible shock.

“That is what we were trying to figure out before we were interrupted.” Wednesday sends a glare in the intruders’ direction to accentuate her point. “Enid and I have research to do, so if you aren’t going to help, then leave.” She says in an attempt to get the couple to continue on to their planned activities that involve each other’s tongues exploring places that may or may not be limited to the other’s mouth.

“Alright.” Yoko says with a shrug as she pulls out a chair and sits opposite Wednesday, grabbing the closest book and popping it open before she starts skimming through the pages. Wednesday honestly doesn’t know what to do, whenever she’s told someone to help or leave before, they always chose to leave. No one has ever actually stayed to help, not even her own family.

“What are you doing?” Wednesday questions as Divina follows Yoko’s example and takes the last remaining seat at the table, picking up a book of her own and flipping open to the table of contents, proving herself to be far more competent in her ability to research than Yoko, who just opened her book up to a random page and started reading.

“Helping.” The siren responds with a quick glance up from her book before returning to the words on the dusty paper, running her finger down the list of chapters before finding a page that peaks her interest and flipping to it.

“Why?” She asks with a little more anger in her tone, still not fully sure why these two took up her obviously sarcastic offer, especially after they both made it very clear that studying on a weekend was something they never intended to do.

“So our little wolfie can learn more about who she is.” Yoko answers easily, as if it was a given that she would skip her plans to makeout with her girlfriend to spend hours reading books in the library just for their friend.

“Yeah, if it involves Enid we’re always here to help.” Divina agrees with her girlfriend, sending a warm smile to the wolf in question and getting one in return as well.

“Aww, you guys!” Enid nearly whines out as she starts to tear up at the generosity and support her friends are showing her. The closest she’s ever gotten to this level of love has been from her father, and even that barely compares to how the three girls at this table make her feel.

“Very well.” Wednesday quickly accepts the help now that she knows their goals aren’t just to hang out and chat, a.k.a. distract them from their goal. “We’ll start with the books about abnormal moon phases and records of rare outcast types before we move on to those regarding more broad werewolf transformations, followed by mythical alpha werewolves.” She starts handing out instructions to help efficiently guide the group towards their answer, pointing to each stack of books as she mentions them. Wednesday was expecting the two lovers to flood her with questions, but it was Enid who was the one to voice her confusion first.

“Shouldn’t we start with these ones?” The wolf asks as her gaze shifts from her girlfriend to the small pile of books about mythical werewolves. “To see if something like this happened to other alphas?” Enid picks up the book on top of the pile before she looks back at Wednesday, only to see a look of restrained shock in the raven’s eyes.

“Other alphas?” Wednesday quietly asks, the confusion in her voice mixed with apprehensive amazement. It’s then that Enid realizes, she’s never told anyone at Nevermore about her developing presentation.

“Oh, yeah.” Enid says, trying to sound casual even though she was actually a little scared about how her friends and mate are going to react to the news. “I’m an alpha.” She drops it on the group like it was a simple everyday fact, not something that was absolutely earth-shattering news for the entire table. But before either the siren or the vampire can react, the raven beats them too it.

“Mi amor,” Wednesday says with a light, enraptured tone as she places her book on the table and turns to face Enid, grabbing the wolf’s hand with both of hers. “You never cease to stupefy me with the limitless depth of your radiantly lethal magnificence.” She leans in and captures the wolf’s lips in a slow and impassioned kiss, which Enid quickly and gladly responds to in kind, stunning the other two girls at the table into silence. By the time the raven pulls away and sits back in her seat she sees the others are sporting wide-eyed looks of shock.

“Oh my god!” Yoko yells out as she’s the first to recover from the sudden affection the stone-faced seer just exhibited. “You two are dating now?!” She looks between the wolf and the raven with utter disbelief plastered across her face, even though she already knows they both have feelings for each other.

“Alright, spill.” Divina joins in with her girlfriend’s extreme excitement as she drops the book she was reading and leans in over the table, ready to gossip like there’s no tomorrow.

“Spill what?” Wednesday questions, hoping that it’s blood Divina is referring to and wondering what it has to do with the fact that herself and Enid were now girlfriends.

“The tea!” Once again, the vampire exclaims in a voice that was far to loud for a library. “How did it happen? Who confessed first?” She begins to rapid fire questions before stopping herself with a dramatic gasp. “Did you guys makeout yet?” Yoko asks with a wide smirk as she wiggles her eyebrows. But Wednesday was still stuck on the first thing the vampire said among that jumble of words.

“Tea?” The raven asks with confusion evident in her voice, still not sure how tea was relevant to the conversation at hand or why spilling it was a good thing. It appears there is yet another teenage slang word she’ll have to get Enid to explain to her later.

“Yoko, can you just chill?” Enid finally chimes in, having just now recovered from the unexpected public kiss and charming words Wednesday showered her with.

“Not until you give me all the deets!” She denies, only now starting to return her voice to it’s usual speaking volume, which was still far too much for the quiet environment they found themselves in.

“Yeah, you can’t just plant one on Enid and not tell us when this started.” The siren adds on as she pushes a stack of books out of the way to better see the blush that was overtaking Enid’s face.

“Very well.” Wednesday finally concedes, knowing that the longer this goes on the less they read. She also knows that their insistence with this conversation was mostly her fault to begin with, but how could she not kiss Enid after that revelation. “It happened last night, in a secluded area of the woods while surrounded by a dozen human corpses. Enid confessed first, but I had set her on fire and revealed her true feelings before then.” She tells them with an even tone as she looks from the vampire to the siren before focusing on the wolf to answer the last question. “And we have already engaged in the action colloquially known as ‘making out’ multiple times so far.” Wednesday didn’t think it was possible for Enid to blush anymore without the blood vessels in her skin bursting. It was oddly endearing.

“Oh, ha. ha.” Yoko sarcastically says, very obviously not believing the seer’s words. She shifts her attention to the wolf, though due to her sunglasses it only became apparent once she addressed the other girl directly. “C’mon Enid, tell us what really happened.”

“So… uh.” Enid lets out, not fully sure what she was going to say, mostly because Wednesday worded it in the worst way possible, probably on purpose too. “Yeah…” She says as she refuses to meet the gaze of anyone at the table, Wednesday included. It’s then that Divina sees the blush that was turning Enid’s cheeks a deep red.

“Holy shit.” The siren says as she realizes Wednesday wasn’t being sarcastic, that the two girls actually did confess while surrounded by bodies after Wednesday set Enid on fire. There was so much to unpack with that she didn’t even know where to begin.

“Wait… are you for real?” Yoko asks, and that causes Enid’s blush to travel the rest of the way up to her forehead, the red tint that covers her entire face gives the vampire all the information she needs. “You know what, I don’t want to know.” She says as her curiosity is overpowered by a shiver up her back that tells her it’s better to live in ignorance about what happened between the two girls rather than becoming scarred for life, or an accomplice. “I guess it makes sense why Enid transformed last night though.” She says mostly under her breath in the quietest voice she’s used since showing up at the library. “Anyway, congrats to both of you!” She yells once again, her short-lived meekness apparently over already. “Telling Enid about your feelings was honestly a bit of a last ditch effort, but I’m glad it all worked out.” Yoko finishes with a smirk directed at Wednesday, not realizing she just admitted to breaching the seer’s trust.

“You told her?” Wednesday fixes the snitch with a deathly cold gaze and a voice to match. But it doesn’t have the effect of forcing the vampire to flee for her life like she was hoping, instead Yoko just sinks into her chair slightly.

“Yeah, but, c’mon, you were literally dying.” Yoko says in an attempt to defend herself and her decision to tell Enid of the raven’s deepest secret. “I feel like it was justified.” She adds on, trying her hardest not to lose her nerve under Wednesday’s pissed off gaze.

“Then I am justified in my sudden decision to wear a sharpened wooden cross around my neck at all times.” Wednesday quietly snaps back with a hint of a growl in her tone, which made the vampire shrink into herself even more.

“Wends, be nice.” Enid lightly chastises her girlfriend as she gently places her hand on the raven’s shoulder. “She was just trying to help, and she did kinda save your life.” She continues, trying to quell the vengeful anger that was filling the seer’s little body. And it was working, until Yoko decided to speak again.

“Yeah, Wends.” The vampire teases, feeling much more comfortable doing so now that Enid was there to contain the raven, meaning she could comfortably hide behind the wolf.

“Babe.” Divina warns, placing her hand on Yoko’s in an attempt to get her to stop poking the bear, just as Enid was trying to rein in her own girlfriend.

“Call me that again and I will replace your eye drops with liquid garlic extract and your contact solution with holy water.” Wednesday threatens, and this time Yoko can tell she’s very much in danger of the raven following through, but that still doesn’t make the vampire shut up.

“Right, only your girlfriend gets to call you that.” She continues to tease the girl, her immortality apparently severely skewing her survival instincts and making her view her eyesight as far less important than toying with a murderous goth psychic.

“Correct.” But the vampire’s teasing falls flat as Wednesday easily agrees with a sharp tone, making it clear that the only one with the privilege of calling her a nickname was her mate.

“That’s really cute actually.” Divina says with a soft smile directed at the two girls across the table, finding their relationship to be incredibly adorable, especially with how happy it makes the wolf.

“It really is.” Yoko concedes, seeing how unlikely it is that any of her teasing would ever actually fluster the raven.

“And you have just lost your right to conversation, from here on out you will not speak to me unless it is related to our shared research goal.” Wednesday says, feeling her fleeting patience draining by the second, and being called cute was only making it worse.

“Or what?” The vampire challenges, knowing that Enid won’t allow the raven to do anything too violent in retaliation. But Wednesday has an ace up her sleeve, tucked in nicely next to her dagger.

“I will forbid Enid from telling you anything about our relationship.” She says with a slight smirk, knowing that the wolf would respect her request to keep the intricacies of their relationship a secret if asked, and that it would be torture for the vampire as well.

“You wouldn't dare.” Yoko glares at Wednesday, entering a staring match that she already knows she’ll lose, even with her blackout sunglasses giving her an easy way to cheat.

“Oh my god, Yoko, shut up!” Enid yells at the vampire, leaning forward in her chair and waving her hands in front of her in a physical effort to get Yoko to stop talking. “If I can’t talk to you about my mate I will literally explode.” She threatens with her wide eyed puppy dog look on her face, even adding on a whine for good measure.

“Fine.” Yoko says as she narrows her eyes at Wednesday before looking at Enid, though her sunglasses blocked all of that from the view of the others. “You’re lucky I’m dying to know about your love life.” She adds on with an exasperated tone.

“Aren’t you already dead?” Wednesday questions with a glare directed at the vampire, who only smirks at her in response.

“Aren’t we not talking?” Yoko points out, still trying to get under the murderous raven’s skin, despite the constant attempts Divina was making to dissuade her.

“Aren’t you here to help us with our research.” Wednesday states more than asks, fixing her attention back to the book she was reading, making it very clear that the conversation was over.

“Alright, point taken.” The vampire says with a defeated tone, finally picking up the book that she had long since discarded, much to the relief of all the others at the table. Enid and Divina take up their own books now that they no longer had to stop their girlfriend from murdering the other girl’s girlfriend, but they both keep a close eye on the dark-haired girls sitting next to them, making sure there’s no secret poisonings or stealthy stabbings taking place.

Once it becomes obvious that the vampire and the raven have entered into an unspoken truce, a comfortable silence settles over the group, even as Yoko glances at the wolf and the raven every so often, still somewhat reeling from the revelation that they’re finally dating now.

The four girls spend the rest of the day working through the collection of books, finding very rare bits of somewhat relevant information related to oddly timed transformations. But, unfortunately, it’s mostly scraps of old tales and long dead myths. The only real evidence they find is a loose association with an alpha wolf that transformed on a blood moon being referred to as a ‘blood wolf.’

So, from then on, that’s where their focus was applied; looking for any other mention of said blood wolf. The only thing they find is one single line among the hundreds of books where the blood alpha is referred to as a ‘she.’ But that’s where their knowledge reserves are tapped dry. Even after searching through hundreds of other books they find nothing else related to blood moon wolves or any other mentions of that singular female alpha.

“This is hopeless!” Enid yells out as she drops her book onto the table and leans back against her chair, dangling her head over the back until she was looking up at the ceiling. “If I have to read another word today I think my eyes might melt out of my head.” She continues as she throws her head forwards and rests her chin in the palm of her hand.

“Same.” Divina mumbles in agreement as she dramatically collapses onto the table, all the hope she initially held was now as far gone as her ability to focus. “I don’t think I’ll be able to blink without seeing a page full of words under my eyelids.” Her voice is muffled halfway through her sentence as she buries her face in the crook of her elbow.

“I found it!” Yoko yells out with a sudden exclamation of both shock and excitement, drawing the attention of everyone at the table. And that’s when Wednesday realizes the leather-bound book in the vampire’s hand was none other than Nathaniel Faulkner’s diary. She had gone around the library and collected all of these books herself, so she knows that diary was not included with the initial pile. She internally questions how Yoko managed to get her hands on it, but it’s then that the raven smells the familiar scent of neroli and bergamot before hearing the pitter-patter of fleeing fingers, which confirms her suspicions; Thing.

“Holy shit, for real?” Divina asks as her mood instantly does a complete flip from her previous despair, earning an excited nod from her girlfriend.

“It says right here; Blood Alphas are a very rare sub classification of alpha werewolves who are bound to their mate, just as other werewolves are bound to the moon.” Yoko begins to directly read the book out loud, letting the other girls know the most useful piece of info they’ve found so far. “If a Blood Alpha’s mate is threatened, they transform into their lycan form as if the full moon is commanding them, regardless of the moon’s presence.” Her words strike something in Enid as it hits her, every time she’s shifted it’s been because of Wednesday. Even over their winter break, as the moon continued to rise and her wolfed-out family stared at her like she was the disappointment of the century, she wasn’t thinking about her family or what would happen to her if she couldn’t wolf out again; she was thinking about how she wouldn't be able to protect Wednesday anymore, and that thought is what finally managed to spring her wolf into action, even without Wednesday actually being in danger.

“Okay,” Enid nods in agreement at what Yoko read out of the book. “That sounds familiar.” She admits as she sends an affectionate look towards Wednesday. And Enid’s confirmation compels Yoko to continue reading from the book, knowing that they were on the right track now.

“Blood Alphas only manifest once per century, and no more than one has existed at a single time.” The vampire says with a bit of disbelief in her tone as she shoots an amazed glance towards the wolf before refocusing on the words in the book. “While not many records exists about the previous Blood Alphas, it is known that they have all been female, a statistical anomaly in werewolf biology.” And that gives Enid an intense feeling of gender affirmation. Just knowing that all other blood wolves have been female makes her incredibly euphoric.

“Whoa, so Enid is like, super special then?” Divina asks as she looks over her girlfriend’s shoulder, reading the words for herself before she shifts her gaze to the wolf, who was smiling so wide she looked like a maniac.

“Yes, she is an exceedingly extraordinary specimen.” Wednesday agrees as she grabs Enid’s hand and brings it up to her lips, pressing a loving kiss against the wolf’s knuckles as she looks into her beautiful blue eyes. “Nothing else can compare to her magnificence.” She adds on, her voice the softest Yoko and Divina have ever heard from the raven.

“Aww, Wends.” Enid coos as she leans in closer to Wednesday, her gaze drifting from Wednesday’s eyes to her lips, silently asking for permission. And the raven grants it by closing the rest of the distance between them, kissing Enid with a gentle passion, earning cheers of encouragement from the other two girls at the table.

The reminder of their far too attentive audience forces them apart before either of them are ready to end the kiss. Wednesday glares at the vampire and the siren as Enid hides her face in her hands, embarrassed about how over the top the two girls are.

“So, when are we gonna go on a double date?” Yoko asks with a large smirk, her decision to tease them encouraged by both of the new lover’s blushing reactions. “Cause I wanna see more of Wednesday rizzn’ up our little wolfie!” She wiggles her eyebrows in the way that Wednesday is starting to absolutely despise.

“Well, we need to have a single date first.” Enid says with a little bit of annoyance in her tone, causing Wednesday to look at the wolf in an attempt to determine if that annoyance was directed at her. But thankfully she sees the glare Enid is sending to the vampire sitting across the table from her.

“You two haven’t gone on a date yet?” Divina questions, very obvious disbelief on her face as she looks between the wolf and the raven.

“This was our date.” Wednesday practically growls out, annoyed by the two girls interrupting and criticizing what was supposed to be a nice, quiet time with her mate.

“No, like a real date.” The vampire’s words only serve to annoy Wednesday even more than before, causing her fingernails to ache slightly. She quickly snaps her gaze down to her hands and see her black claws once again attempting to make an appearance, even as she focuses on keeping them contained.

“Yoko!” Divina chides her girlfriend for her brashness. “Be nice to the nerds!” She adds on, deciding to join in on the teasing and making Wednesday’s claws fully extend, forcing the raven to place her hands in her lap.

“We literally haven’t even been together for 24 hours yet!” Enid defends them from the two girl’s teasing, even if she does it in a cheerful voice. “But don’t worry, I already have a date planned.” She looks into Wednesday’s eyes and gives her a flirty wink, which piques Wednesday’s interest, filling her with an insatiable curiosity about what the wolf has planned for them.

“You do…?” Wednesday slowly asks as she eyes her girlfriend, a little hesitant despite the intense intrigue in her voice.

“Yep!” Enid happily cheers out, beyond excited for their first date and what she has planned for Wednesday tomorrow. Plus it was kinda thrilling to surprise Wednesday.

“And what will this date entail?” The raven asks with a low and curious voice as she leans in closer to Enid, looking over her face for any tells about what her plans are, causing the girl to blush with their sudden closeness and the extreme gaze she was under.

“It’s a surprise!” She responds, her cheerful smile acts like a cover for whatever is going on in her mind, other than the fact that the planned date makes the wolf very happy.

“A surprise you say…” Wednesday replies with a slow and contemplative tone as she unfocused her eyes, working her mind in overdrive to figure out what the wolf has planned. The raven starts to go through all of the dates she remembers her parents going on when she was younger, all the over the top opera dates and fancy dinners. It’s not a dinner and movie date, Enid had made her hatred of those very clear, but what else is there to do in either Nevermore or Jericho?

“I know that tone!” Enid yells out as she sends a half-hearted glare towards her girlfriend, pulling Wednesday out of her internal investigation. “This is so not another mystery for you to solve!” She says with what Wednesday has come to know as her warning voice; the one Enid uses whenever she’s scolding someone, admittedly mostly Wednesday.

“A surprise and a mystery are just two sides of the same corpse.” Wednesday quips back with a mischievous smirk on her face. “Both have an underlying truth to uncover.” She adds on, making it very clear that she intends to ignore the wolf’s warning and continue to try and find out what she has planned.

“Then I guess I need to make sure you’re too distracted to investigate.” Enid says with a low and very obviously seductive voice, drawing the raven’s attention and shocking the other two girls at the table. Yoko and Divina have been friends with the wolf for almost two years now and they’ve never heard Enid say anything like that to Ajax when they were together.

“That’s the third time today you have promised something along those lines.” Wednesday responds, further surprising the siren and the vampire with Enid’s newfound forwardness. “I’m beginning to believe you have no intention of following through with your threats.” She turns herself in her chair to fully face Enid, fixing her with a suspicious glare.

“Well, we are still in the library…” Enid says as she turns to fully face Wednesday, leaning in and giving her yet another cocky wink.

“Okay, that’s our cue.” Divina says, picking up on the growing sexual tension in the air between the girls. “Congrats on the relationship you two.” She stands from her chair, grabbing Yoko by the arm and pulling her up with her before quickly starting towards the libraries exit.

“Remember to stay hydrated, wear protection, and use plenty of lube!” Yoko shouts out through the room as the siren continues to drag her away, not caring who hears her or how loud she was.

“YOKO!” Enid yells out to the fleeing vampire as her face burns a few shades darker than usual, but the sound of the library’s heavy door slamming shut makes it clear that the couple was already gone. She hesitantly turns to start apologizing to Wednesday for Yoko’s horrid joke, but Wednesday speaks first.

“I would usually tell you to ignore the leech and her childish teasing, but it was surprisingly good advice.” She says with a slight smirk on her face and an all too serious voice.

“Oh my god! Wednesday!” Enid yells out in shock as she playfully pushes the raven’s shoulder, her blush burning even brighter than before to the point where her entire face is blood-red. She quickly buries her face in her hands to hide the evidence of her embarrassment, her next words coming out muffled because of it. “Not you too!” The wolf whines as she slides her hands down her face, which amuses Wednesday so much that she can’t help the quiet laugh that passes her lips.

The world practically comes to a stop for the wolf as the laugh rings in her ears. It was light and airy and very out of place when coming from the dark and gloomy girl, but it absolutely melts Enid’s heart. She stares at the raven with a massively wide smile, taking in the way Wednesday’s face seemed softer and more relaxed than she’s seen since… ever really.

And Enid knows that laugh, no, that giggle is going to become her new addiction. She knows she’ll spend the rest of her life chasing that sound, doing whatever she can to hear it again, even if she has to maul someone to do it.

Her heart jumps in her chest as she realizes just how true that was, how she wouldn't hesitate to horribly maim someone just to make Wednesday smile.

And that’s when a sudden and incredible thought hits her; while Wednesday was turning into a wolf, Enid herself was turning into an Addams.

And nothing could make her happier.
