“We are so different, and yet you are marrying me…” Callisto chuckled, “You will find, my dear fiancée, that ideals are lovely things; until they collide with reality. But very well,” he gestured to Cedric, who still looked vaguely uncomfortable. “Make note of it. A trust for the boy, control over his education, and a bit of funding for these… grand ambitions of hers.”
Penelope had won; she was getting what she wanted.
Cedric hesitated. “You agree to all of it?”
“I am not a fool,” he said simply. “If I refuse, she will make my life unbearable.”
Penelope’s brows lifted. “That is the first intelligent thing you have said all evening.”
He laughed, low and rich. “Then let us make it official, Lady Penelope. You will be my wife. You will have your terms. And in return…” He paused for effect. “You will stand by my side, no matter how much you loathe it.”
She lifted her chin, her voice steady. “If that’s what it takes.”
