Changes & Mutations

Summary:

(New Chapter every two weeks)

The Brotherhood are gone, but even still, things are not the most stable at the Institute. Jean's powers are touch and go, and she's finding it increasingly difficult to believe the Professor is doing all he can. Scott's working himself and, according to them, the students way too hard. Logan is gone half the time.

There's a new recruit, an orphan rescued from a burning orphanage. And there just might be a new anti-mutant group on the rise.

It's a new world. Everyone's fighting for their place, and fighting themselves.

Chapter Text

Or don't. So, a couple of housekeeping things before we get started. Skip this chapter and all these things will come as surprises!

  • As tagged, this fic takes place after X1 and between X2, both of which are 100% canon. The other pre-MCU Marvel movies (Raimi's Spider-Man, Hulk, Punisher 2004, Fantastic Four, All three Blades, Daredevil and Elektra) can also be considered as taking place in this universe, though we'll see how many of these I can fit in as cameos. One of them provides a major plot point. Right now I'm iffy on how canon Origins is, because of what it means for Gambit. The Wolverine doesn't conflict with anything, I don't think.
  • X3, if I ever get that far, will not unfold the way FOX did it.
  • Some mutants who did not appear in the movies will appear, either intact from their counterparts or slightly tweaked to fit the moodier feel of this 'verse.
  • This is an OC-centric work, but all the X-Men and the younger team members (Rogue, Pyro, etc) have pretty sizable roles and arcs. Jean in particular gets a lot of focus.
  • Oh, and Moira is very different to how she was in X3. You'll see.
  • Changes & Mutations tells one complete story but consists of multiple arcs within. These are:

Welcome to the X-Men, Lyle (#2-9)
Homeward Bound (#10-16, with #17-18 serving as an epilogue)
Election (#20-26)
I'll Give You Romance (#27-28)
Higher Learning (#29-)
