Work Text:
It was a typical evening at Rossi's mansion. The team gathered around the grand dining table, chatting, laughing, and enjoying the delicious Italian cuisine that their host had meticulously prepared. The BAU team, a close-knit family, often found solace in these get-togethers, a reprieve from the darkness they faced daily.
Aaron Hotchner, the stoic leader of the team, sat at one end of the table, his eyes occasionally drifting to the other end where Spencer Reid, the resident genius, engaged in animated conversation with Garcia and Morgan. For three years, Hotch and Reid had managed to keep their relationship a secret, navigating the complexities of their professional and personal lives with a delicate balance. But tonight, that was about to change.
As the evening progressed, Hotch and Reid exchanged subtle glances, silently reassuring each other that they were ready for the big reveal. Reid took a deep breath, his nerves dancing just beneath the surface, but a gentle squeeze of his hand under the table from Hotch gave him the courage he needed.
Rossi, ever the gracious host, stood up to propose a toast. "To family," he said, raising his glass. "And to another successful case closed."
"To family," the team echoed, clinking their glasses together.
Hotch cleared his throat, capturing everyone's attention. "There's something we need to tell you all," he began, his deep voice commanding the room. "Spencer and I... we've been together for three years now."
A stunned silence fell over the table. Eyes widened, jaws dropped, and a chorus of "What?" and "No way!" erupted simultaneously. Garcia's wine glass nearly slipped from her hand, and Morgan's fork clattered onto his plate.
Rossi, ever the perceptive one, raised an eyebrow. "Together, as in...?"
Reid, his cheeks flushed, nodded. "As in, we're a couple. And we're getting married."
"Married?" JJ repeated, her voice a mix of shock and confusion.
Hotch nodded, a rare, warm smile spreading across his face. "Yes, married. We wanted you all to be the first to know."
The room buzzed with incredulous energy. Morgan was the first to break the stunned silence with a laugh. "Man, you two really had us fooled. I can't believe we never saw it."
Garcia, tears of joy streaming down her face, rushed over to hug both Hotch and Reid. "This is amazing! I'm so happy for you two!"
Emily, ever the profiler, smirked. "I should have known. There were signs, but you two are masters of discretion."
JJ shook her head, still trying to process the news. "I can't believe you kept this from us for so long."
Hotch and Reid shared a look, a silent understanding passing between them. "It wasn't easy," Hotch admitted. "But we wanted to make sure it was right, and now we know it is."
Rossi, a knowing smile on his face, raised his glass again. "To Aaron and Spencer. May your love continue to thrive and surprise us all."
The team raised their glasses, a chorus of cheers filling the room. As they toasted to the newly engaged couple, the shock gradually gave way to heartfelt congratulations and warm embraces.
The evening continued with laughter and stories, the team adjusting to this new dynamic, but embracing it wholeheartedly. Hotch and Reid, finally free of their secret, felt a weight lifted off their shoulders, knowing they had the unwavering support of their chosen family.
The hours passed, and the team settled into the cozy living room, enjoying coffee and dessert. Morgan leaned back in his chair, studying Hotch and Reid with a mischievous grin. "So, who made the first move?"
Reid blushed, glancing at Hotch. "It was mutual, really. We just... found ourselves spending more time together outside of work, and it grew from there."
Hotch nodded, his hand resting lightly on Reid's knee. "We realized we had something special, something worth protecting."
Garcia sighed dreamily. "This is like a fairy tale! My two favorite guys in love and getting married. I can't wait to plan the wedding!"
Rossi chuckled. "Easy, Garcia. Let's not overwhelm them just yet."
Emily, ever the romantic, leaned forward. "Tell us about the proposal. Who proposed to whom?"
Reid smiled, his eyes twinkling with the memory. "Aaron proposed to me. We were in Central Park, and he just... got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was perfect."
Hotch squeezed Reid's hand. "I knew I couldn't let another day go by without making it official. Spencer is my everything."
JJ wiped away a tear. "That's so beautiful. You two are so good together."
As the conversation continued, the team shared their own stories of love and friendship, the bond between them growing even stronger. The revelation of Hotch and Reid's relationship had initially shocked them, but it quickly became clear that their love only added to the team's strength and unity.
Later that night, as the team started to leave, Rossi pulled Hotch aside. "I'm happy for you, Aaron. You deserve this happiness."
Hotch nodded, his gratitude evident. "Thank you, Dave. It means a lot."
As the last of their friends left, Hotch and Reid stood on Rossi's porch, looking out at the night sky. Reid leaned into Hotch's embrace, feeling content and hopeful for the future.
"We did it," Reid said softly. "We told them."
Hotch kissed the top of Reid's head. "Yes, we did. And now, we can finally be ourselves, without any secrets."
Reid smiled, turning to look into Hotch's eyes. "I love you, Aaron."
"I love you too, Spencer. Always."
With that, they headed home, ready to face whatever challenges came their way, knowing they had the love and support of their team, their family. The future was bright, and together, they would continue to shine.
