The lair of the Watchers.
“So this is it then?” Mumbo asked as the Hermits approached a deep cave, “This is how we’re going to get back to Hermitcraft?”
This is our only way home.
“Yes, this is the way we must take to get back to our server,” Xisuma answered, doing a quick headcount of the hermits surrounding him as they descended into the cave.
Deep down
Grian’s head shot up, suddenly way more aware of his surroundings. His sudden jolt went unnoticed by Xisuma who was walking next to him. He tried to calm his racing heartbeat as no other Hermit had given away hearing a voice.
“You’re quiet today.” He states, looking at Grian with concern, “If you have something you need to say you can say it you know.”
Grian sighed.
“Not much to say.” He admitted stubbornly.
Deep down, you hide a reason for shame~ A voice taunts from the void, as the Hermits continue to descend into darkness, heard only by a select few.
“Grian, I have to tell you a secret I can’t keep anymore,” X whispers to him, looking around to see they had fallen into the back of the group with Scar and Mumbo several paces ahead.
Deep down, you know that we are the same
Grian shuddered, swearing to himself that he would never be anything like the voices taunting him in his mind, no matter how much easier it would be to just give in and stop running.
“I looked in your bag while you were asleep,” X let it sink in before softly finishing his thought, “I saw your mask Grian.”
Leaving them feeling betrayed
Grian’s heart ached at the thought of
Breaking the bonds that you’ve made
Grian knew the moment they got transported from Hermitcraft that it was his fault, the Watchers had no longer been content letting him live away from them. Grian knew he should’ve told everyone about what he had become, but it was too painful and he quite enjoyed being treated normally. After he escaped everyone who knew about the whole ordeal treated him like he would shatter if looked at the wrong way. With the Hermits, barely anyone knew, and he could just be himself again, without worrying that everyone was coddling him.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to invade your privacy Grian.”
There is no price we won’t pay
Grian knew this, the Watchers were merciless and would stop at nothing to get what they wanted.
“Forgive me.”
We both know what it takes to survive
Grain knew what it was to survive, but he had finally been able to live with the Hermits, something that he was not keen to forget.
“Come on slowpokes!” Scar called from ahead, looking back at the two who had fallen even further behind, “Full speed ahead!” He joked.
“Full speed ahead!” Mumbo echoed back.
Deep down we only care for ourselves
Grian knew the Watchers only cared for their own interests, not looking out for the players, only themselves. He didn’t want to be like that, he wouldn’t let them make him into that, he cared for his friends and he knew the sacrifice he had to make. It was anything but selfish.
“G, be honest with me, are we going to make it out okay?”
“If you follow my lead, Xisuma, light up some torches, enough for everyone else, I can handle myself.”
Just as X had handed everyone their torches, Mumbo looked up.
“Uh, guys, something approaches.”
“Hello.”
Everyone stilled, understanding the danger they were all in as several Watchers appeared. Grian realized that if the Watchers had truly wanted them gone, they wouldn’t’ve stood a chance, they were entertainment currently, and Grian had to make sure it stayed that way.
“Run for your lives!” He shouted, “Towards the exit, make it through to the other side!” Grian turned to face the Watchers, pulling out his sword as he started running around, trying to make the Watchers lose sight of him in the darkness of the cave.
“Drown in your sorrow and fears!”
Grian really hoped the other Hermits would get out safe, he hoped they would keep going and only notice his absence when it was too late. As he went to slash at a Watcher they lashed out with their powers, slashing his arm and causing it to bleed.
“Choke on your blood and your tears! Bleed 'til you've run out of years!”
Even though he was wounded Grian kept fighting, knowing that every second was crucial in his friends getting away.
“We must do what it takes to survive.”
Grian knew that they would do whatever they could to save their dying race, but he wouldn’t let his friend be tormented by their experiments. He would do whatever it took to help his friend survive.
“I won’t let you hurt them!”
Grian kept fighting, managing to wound a couple of the Watchers, but not enough so that he could escape.
“Will you give up your honor and faith little one? Live up your life as a wraith.”
“I will do whatever it takes to protect my friends! They gave me life after you took away everything from me!
“Then you will die in the blood where you bathe!” The Watchers screeched at him.
“A sacrifice I am willing to make so they can continue to live.” Grian determinedly stood his ground, brandishing his sword at them. He was trying to stand strong despite his numerous wounds. Yet, as he prepared to charge the Watchers again he saw torches running towards them. His friends had come back for him, a couple ran around the Watchers confusing them while Xisuma and Mumbo ran to his side, and helped him run to the exit with them.
“We must do what it takes to survive!” The Watchers continued to shriek. Grian tried to run back and protect his friends but he was too wounded and X and Mumbo’s grip on him was too strong. Soon he realized that the rest of the Hermits returned to their group, and the exit of the cave was getting nearer.
Before they reached the exit, Grian’s exhaustion caught up with him, and his vision began fading, but before he blacked out, he heard a haunting voice which caused a shiver to go down his spine.
We are the same you and I~
