Love is Embarassing

Summary:

He could hear Tony and Steve both panicking under their breath while Tony was on the line with the 911 operator informing them to make the paramedics aware of their inshock teenager who had lost his biological parent in a fire and was probably in some state of traumatic shock. Peter could feel the fresh air when his dad reached the front of the house and dropped himself and Peter down on the sidewalk. His fathers held hands while they could hear the wail of sirens nearing closer.

Work Text:

It was late in the evening when it happened. Peter is tucked away in his room and his dads are in the kitchen cooking a late-night snack. He can hear their soft banter that fills him with so much love and security, this is the one reason his study music is played over the mildly elaborate speaker system Tony set up for him when he was twelve and became unable to sleep without some sort of music or white noise lulling in the background. All of this aside Peter is content to sit in his room flicking away at the pages of the new book he had brought home the other day after visiting MJ at the bookstore, she had picked out a new one for him per usual. It was some cheesy romance novel about two bitter men who fall in love despite all odds and Peter was enthralled with the dumbness of the romance and how it made his heart flutter and brain spatter in jealousy. He was just getting to the part where the main characters were going to be confronted by a raging homophobe that had Peter chuckling at the cliche when he heard his dad yelp. Peter only drew himself slightly from the book trying to listen in to see if it was a sign that there was an issue. But before he could fully investigate the smoke alarm was blaring and his father's loud footsteps could be heard the shrill pitch of his dad's voice yelled out to Peter he began to feel the anxiety in his veins freeze him. He was stuck listening to everything slowly and his book dropped from his hands. Before his brain could go further down the rabbit hole his dad came in cursing a prayer and scooped him up into his arms. holding the eighteen-year-old as if he were still a precious toddler who couldn't have weighed more than a few bricks.

Peter doesnt remember much until he is asked a bunch of questions in the back of the ambulance. He tells the paramedics he just had in his admission a mild anxiety attack and he would be fine. But the paramedic continued and asked questions revolving around his therapist and other things about his mental health. After checking his body for any injuries the paramedic left to talk with his parents who were standing closely wrapped up (Steve holding Tony close under his arm while the man tried his best to remain a strong presence for his child). When Peter looked around to finally address the scene he noticed that the house had seen better days. The place where his parents spent so many years curating his childhood was gone. Peter felt tears behind his eyes for the first time since the paramedics arrived. And of course, it happened just as he noticed the almost literally smoking hot buff fireman in his peripheral. He seemed to be joking with a few of his coworkers while they waited for everything to be finished and done with. Peter felt like blushing, he was just some scrawny teenager who was a month away from being shipped off to MIT and here he was creating childhood fantasies about a fireman he had nothing to do with.

Suddenly, Handsome Guy turns around and notices he has an onlooker. Peter awkwardly waves at his being caught and hopes to be smiteted by god himself. Handsome Guy casually waves off his coworkers and walks over.

"Hi." Peter means to be louder but his throat he now realizes is dry and somehow also caked in mucus and he sounds like a frog possessed by a demon. Handsome Guy (Peter should probably ask for his name) just chuckles and steps into the back of the ambulance digs around for a second and then hands Peter a bottle of water.

"That should probably aid that throat of yours." Handsome Guy says and not so subtlely winks which makes Peters's water go down the wrong pipe and begins to have a coughing fit, this sends Handsome Guy into Serious work mode because he quickly sets the water down and carefully taps Peter back with a firm hand helping him cough it all up. When Peter is finally able to breathe Handsome Guy gives him a look before apologetically handing him the water bottle.

"That was very unprofessional, but in my defence, my day has been spent around old women who had fallen over and a child who had taken a pitch with his cat in a goddamn tree." Handsome Guy is smiling and boy could Peter just melt right there.

"Well, I'm flattered, um... I've been calling you Handsome Guy in my head so I am guilty all the more. Could I possibly get your name before I cease to exist?" Peter rambles out because his parents are about twenty feet away still chatting with the police now seemingly a more calm and light-hearted conversation. But also because Peter in all his years of being an out proud trans and queer guy has only had one boyfriend. And that was when he was fourteen and was more shy than surprisingly he was now.

"Wade Wilson." He sticks his hand out in a seemingly sign of peace. "Peter Benjamin Parker Stark-Rodgers." A blush crowds on his face for what feels like the millionth time in just a matter of minutes because Hand-Wade just bursts out laughing. It however is the 'How did your parents give you that long ass mouthful of a name' sort of chuckle that Peter himself has fallen into laughing at just because of the absurdity of imagining a seven-year-old Peter coming out to his parents with a somehow longer name than he had to begin with.

"Yeah laugh it up, Wade Wilson. What are you some kind of superhero?"

"Only here to save you, baby boy, I can be your superhero if you want." Peter gives him a look.

"Okay cheesy ass line aside why are you flirting with me, I'm just some random teenager whose parents were dumb enough to be fooling around and burn down our home." Peter tries to make his wound of losing his home better and fails a bit. He sniffles to hold back the sadness.

"Oh shit, baby boy." Peter hears a muttered fuck before Wade speeds off and before he knows it he is getting wrapped up in what must be the one thing his dad promised him he'd always have which is the blanket his aunt may gave him before she died. He of course didn't remember it being given to him, he only remembers it being his favourite to be tucked in with. But the blanket after Peter made his room his teenager paradise had moved to the back of the couch where he would curl up with it for movie nights or just anytime he was lounging downstairs.

Peter whined and sobbed for god knows how long until he fell asleep tucked in the back of Steve's SUV that Tony would constantly laugh about him still having way into Peters teenage years. He awoke to his Papa picking him up and he looked around to see they were at his Uncle Rhodey's house, it was only a twenty-minute drive from their home and Peter had spent a lot of his childhood here so he begrudgingly let himself be carried inside. He heard the whispers around him of his dad talking with Rhodey in a saddened voice while Papa took him upstairs and tucked him into a bed that wasn't his. Steve went to leave but Peter began to cry once more and he felt like he was just a fragile kid in his father's arms all over again.

A month after the fire they were still at Uncle Rhodeys. Peter settled into the weird new routines they made, Pops woke up early to go for runs like normal except now he went with his Uncle and when they came back Dad was cooking away in the kitchen while Peter sat at the Island counter working on his online college work, peter has not been ready to leave after the fire had somehow convinced his dad that staying at home for the first semester or even year (if he was lucky) would be the best. But the mornings were still filled with his dads kissing and cuddling up after breakfast and being their usual gross lovey-dovey selves while Peter and Rhodey made fun of them.

Tony had thrown the keys at Peter and muttered something about wanting a cheeseburger, his dad knew him well, sensing the gears overturning in his son's head and watching him practically make a dent in the kitchen floor from bouncing it so fast. Peter laughed snatched up the keys hopped into the car and drove to the nearest McDonalds. When he was leaving he saw a firetruck rush past the intersection as he chomped down some fries Peter breathed through the feelings that bubbled many mixed with fear and others that wanted to see Wade.

When Peter arrived back at the house there was a motorcycle parked on the street next to the house, Peter gave it a dejected look before turning off the garb and grabbing the food for his dad. Peter shuffled his Converse off and threw the keys onto the foyer table next to the other sets his stomach almost fell out of his ass cause Wade was sitting in his Uncles living room.

"Wade?" Peter said cautiously thinking maybe he was dreaming and he was in a sick fantasy but then Wade turned around.

"Oh shit kid?!" He gave a confused look as if Peter was the one who wasn't supposed to be there.

"Why are you-" Before he could finish his Uncle came out of the kitchen holding two beers by the neck and a tray of snacks.

"Hey Peter I'm glad you're back this is my buddy, Wade, he was in the Air Force for maybe a month before he decided he was a baby who couldn't handle planes and became a fireman." Peter stood a bit in shock before letting out a chuckle.

"We've met before actually, he was on the scene when um, you know." Peter looked down shaking his head hoping to be rid of the memories.

"Hey bud, it's okay how about you go to the garage and give your dad his food, just give the door a knock your pops is in there so god knows." Rhodey chuckles and Peter lightens a bit as his Uncle gives him a quick hug and a pat on the back before he's off. He grabs the bag with his dad's food and swiftly walks to the garage door giving it a few loud knocks and a shout before going in. The site he walks in on isn't horrible but sickeningly sweet. his pop has his feet propped up on an only plastic chair that looks like something Peter probably used as a child due to the neon pink and princess begin on the back. and his dad is sitting at Rhodeys workbench (now turned Tony) tinkering away on something.

"Hey dads, nice makeshift area you got here." Peter goes and sets down the bag of food before curling up with his dad on the old couch.

"You hiding out in here 'cause the cute fireman showed up underoos?" Peter blushes and hides his face in his Pop shoulder.

"Dad! What the hell!" Peter almost goes to take the food from him but doesnt wish for a death sentence.

"Peter Benjamin." He gives him his stern but loving dad look.

"I was a young man such as yourself once and I can see that look. However, don't make me remind you about-"

"Nope, thanks dad got it. Love you both." He jumps up off the couch kisses each of their foreheads and it's gone.

"Tony, let the boy be." It all can be heard as he walks upstairs to his 'room'.

Maybe an hour or two later there is a knock on his bedroom door. "Dad go away!" Peter says as he is in the middle of looking himself in the mirror trying to figure out if he looks masc enough in his booty shorts and black baggy tee. But the knock sounds again so Peter groans and cracks the door open only to find Wade there. And before he says anything he is pulling Wade by the neck and kissing him.

"Fuck Wade, we can't do this shit here." Peter whimpers into his mouth.

"Yeah I know but I can't help it you're so fucking sexy," Wade says as he pushes Peter against the dresser next to the door.

"You know what's funny?" Wade says when he pulls away from his lips placing his forehead against peters. Peter doesn't respond just gives him a look that lets Wade to know to go on.

"Your parents found out I knew your uncle and invited me over so I could ask you out." Wade chuckles and Peter pushes him away and falls on the floor curling in on himself laughing so fucking hard.

"You're joking. No fucking way." When Peter catches his breath he adjusts his pants so he doesnt look like an absolute slut in front of his family and tugs Wade down the stairs and finds his Dads and Uncle sitting at the kitchen table. He walks over to his father and lightly slaps the back of his head which causes him to let out a confused sound.

"You tried to set me up with my boyfriend idiot. I've been dating that idiot for three weeks. I thought you knew that." Peter then looks at his Pops who is chuckling at his husband.

"I told you to tell him for me!" Peter crosses his arms which has Wade letting out a little coo at his adorable boyfriend.

"I thought it be funny, and when he wanted to invite him over I thought it would be hilarious." Peter rolls his eyes.

"God. Come on Wade lets go."
