Work Text:
Second year EngSci major Wei Wuxian had a well known reputation on campus: for the low price of $20, he would do anything.
Okay, get the ‘I’m not gay but…’ jokes out of the way now. Wei Wuxian heard them more than he heard from his family. In truth, nearly all the requests he received were for tutoring–it helped that his price was much cheaper than actual tutors, and his top marks were no secret.
That being said, it wasn’t uncommon for people to ask with help regarding matters outside of school. There was Yin Hui, who paid him to play the flute whenever his band had a performance. Tu Qing came to him after every breakup, and he played the role of a terrible therapist that told her she was always right and her now ex-boyfriend wasn't shit.
At a party, he’d once conversationally mentioned he and Jiang Cheng grew up competing in MMA tournaments. That caused an influx of female students hiring him to walk them home late at night.
Honestly, it was a great gig. He had flexible hours, got paid upfront, and had the right to deny service to anyone he didn’t like. He had only two rules:
- He refused to write or even edit school assignments. He wasn't getting his scholarship taken away for abetting academic dishonesty.
- Nothing illegal… unless he could be convinced it would be really funny.
But to reiterate, Wei Wuxian’s business model was very simple: he would do anything for $20. That was why he was currently snoring face-first into the tablet arm of a classroom chair.
A heavy blow to his crown was followed by, “Wake up, idiot!”
Wei Wuxian groaned, grabbing his throbbing head. What kind of monster attacked a man in his sleep?
Jiang Cheng raised a 500-page textbook, ready to strike again. “Stop!” Wei Wuxian cried. “I'm up!”
A few of their classmates giggled as they filed out of the classroom. So class was already over… nice! That meant he’d gotten three solid hours of sleep.
“You look like shit,” Jiang Cheng commented.
“Dude, Yan Chen kept me up all night.” Wei Wuxian yawned, trying to force his eyes open.
Yan Chen was a regular student of Wei Wuxian’s. Was he going to turn down work? No. Did he particularly care for the way Yan Chen always asked for cram sessions the night before tests? Hell no.
“That was not worth twenty bucks,” he groaned. “I gotta stop charging a flat fee if they’re gonna take up half my day.”
His brother opened his mouth to respond, but someone beat him to it. “Must you speak of this here?”
They both directed their attention to their bitter classmate.
Ah, Lan Wangji. Beautiful, disciplined, hall monitor Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian often heard the phrase ‘born in the wrong generation’, but Lan Wangji was the only person that it really applied to. Lan Wangji was not meant for the 21st century. He belonged in a time period when men would see an ankle and start fanning themselves.
Despite studying in a completely different field, he somehow always ended up sharing a class with Wei Wuxian. And he hated Wei Wuxian’s method of making money.
“Yes, I must speak of it here,” he snarked back. Seriously, was it so wrong he didn’t have a ‘real’ job? He was helping people and putting food (spicy noodles) on his plate!
Regardless of what odd-job Wei Wuxian took up, his classmate hated it.
There was that time he’d been dared to win a hot dog eating contest. “Guess who just discovered they don’t have a gag reflex!”
Or when he agreed to group tutoring. “That’s it, I’m pricing everyone individually from now on! No more groups paying as one!”
Or that time he’d gone viral on TikTok. “Mr. Jiang’s wife made me take down that video, she said I was making the Jiangs look bad…”
It didn’t matter how innocent the job was, Lan Wangji always had a problem with it!
Wei Wuxian unlocked his phone, groaning at his digital planner. “Oh, fuck, I have to meet Ju Long today…”
Ju Long was a nice enough guy. Unfortunately, he was too shy to make friends at the gym. This was where Wei Wuxian came in, hired to be his spotter/workout buddy.
Wei Wuxian loved exercise! His extensive athletic record definitely helped him secure his scholarship! But Ju Long wasn’t an average gym-goer; he was built as thick as a wall, and certainly trained like it.
“I swear, every part of me is gonna be so sore…” Wei Wuxian whined. “Jiang Cheng, how the hell does someone even have stamina to do that for two hours straight?”
A startling slam made the both of them jump in place. Lan Wangji glowered at the two of them, grabbed the book he’d just smacked against his desk, and stormed out.
Wei Wuxian was dumbstruck. “Seriously, what's his problem?”
Tonight’s mission was supposed to be simple – Tao Xia had asked for nothing but, “Help me talk to a girl.”
All Wei Wuxian had to do was take the young man to a club, introduce him to some women, and then slip away to get drinks to give them some time alone. Unfortunately, by the time he returned, a new group was sitting where he’d left them.
“Excuse me!” He yelled over the music. “Do you know! Where! My friend! Went!?”
“No! Sorry!”
Wei Wuxian groaned and sent him a text. While he waited for the response, he continued asking around until his phone finally buzzed.
tao xia from calc: a girl invited me back to her place thank you!
Son a bitch, this was not what they agreed on! Tao Xia was supposed to drive him home after getting some numbers! Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure he could stay up for an hour-long bus ride back to his dorm room. He could already feel pain in his throat from having to speak over the DJ’s mix.
Stumbling out of the club, Wei Wuxian considered his options. Calling a cab was out of the question – it would cost more than he’d made! Asking Jiang Cheng? Ugh, he’d learned his lesson the last time he’d tried that. He didn’t want to listen to another hour-long lecture about his irresponsibility.
It wouldn't be the first time he’d slept on the street… and it would be safer, considering he wasn’t five anymore. Wei Wuxian pulled his sweater’s hood over his head and wandered away from the main street, looking for a nice, private bench.
What a cute little neighbourhood. It must have cost a fortune to live here – instead of tall buildings that could fit hundreds, small houses with tiny lawns were lined up neatly.
“...Wei Ying?”
Across the dark street was the last person Wei Wuxian would expect to see. “Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian suppressed a yawn and waved at his approaching classmate. “I thought you went to sleep at nine like some old timey monk?”
Lan Wangji ignored the barb, moving closer with his ever present frown. Now that he’d stepped into the streetlamp's light, Wei Wuxian could see his clothes. He was wearing cloud-patterned pajamas and… fuzzy slippers shaped like bunnies? “Wei Ying…”
“Why are you out in your pajamas?” Wei Wuxian asked incredulously. “At two in the morning?”
Lan Wangji reached into his pocket and held something out. It was a square handkerchief.
“Uh, I’m fine, thanks.” When Lan Wangji insistently nudged it forward, Wei Wuxian indulged the man and held out his hand to take it.
Lan Wangji didn't hand it over – instead he unfolded it, then tied it around Wei Wuxian’s wrist. He looked weirdly proud of himself about it.
“Okay, well… nice of you to say hi.” He gestured to a nearby bench. “I'm gonna try to find somewhere to sleep where there aren't anti-homeless structures.”
This little street was so empty, not a single car had driven by during their entire conversation. Other than the buzzing of the fluorescent light bulbs around or the occasional owl, it was dead silent. Lan Wangji’s voice rang out with perfect clarity when he said, “Sleep with me.”
Wei Wuxian’s brain short-circuited for a moment before he understood.
“Ah, Lan Zhan, don’t you think you’re a bit too nice?” Wei Wuxian chuckled nervously. “Offering your home to someone you hate? Even someone as virtuous as you doesn’t have to go that far.”
“...I don’t,” Lan Wangji whispered.
“You don’t?” Wei Wuxian repeated. “Don’t what? Don’t think you’re too nice, or you don’t think you have to offer?”
This was why they could never get along; Wei Wuxian was the type to ramble on and on, like he'd die if he shut his mouth for a minute. Lan Wangji was the exact opposite, and quietly hoarded his words all for himself.
Lan Wangji abruptly turned and walked away. “Follow me.” Wei Wuxian would have been offended by the command if Lan Wangji didn't immediately trip on his feet and land face first into the cement.
“Woah!” Wei Wuxian ran over to the man, turning him onto his back. Lan Wangji’s face was fine, but the glazed, far away look in his eyes… “Lan Zhan, are you drunk!?”
“No,” he denied. “Only one drink.”
What a lightweight…! Wei Wuxian slipped Lan Wangji’s arm over his shoulders, pulling him to his feet. “Alright grandpa, let’s get you home.”
He took hold of the hand hanging by his neck, preventing Lan Wangji from slipping back to the ground. With them pressed side to side like this, Wei Wuxian nearly fell over when Lan Wangji leaned all his weight on the shorter man all at once.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian cried. “I need you to walk, I don’t know where your house is!”
Lan Wangji straightened up as much as he could and led him onward. “Why is Wei Ying…?”
Eager to blabber on, he happily took the opportunity to yap. “Tao Xia is such an asshole,” Wei Wuxian complained. “Ditched me for a girl instead of taking me home, and my throat is going to be sore.”
“I would never treat Wei Ying that way,” Lan Wangji said.
What a vague thing to say. Of course Lan Wangji wouldn't treat anyone that way. He was the epitome of gentlemanly behaviour – hell, all the Lans even carried white handkerchiefs around.
“Okay, my turn to ask why you’re here! Why do you live so far away from school, anyway?”
“Loud,” Lan Wangji answered simply.
…yeah. With those delicate Lan sensitivities, Lan Wangji would never survive dorm life, or even city life, for that matter.
Lan Wangji tugged where Wei Wuxian’s hand was holding his, so he squeezed tighter. “I’m not letting go until you swear you won’t fall over.”
Lan Wangji nodded, and he released him with a soft sigh. As soon as he was out of Wei Wuxian’s hold, he ran off.
“You- hey, Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian ran up to where he’d stopped, in front of a sweet little house with a lawn full of flowers and ornaments. “Is this where you live?”
He didn’t get an answer. Lan Wangji wordlessly stepped onto the grass, grabbed a plastic flamingo, and tore it out of the lawn. Wei Wuxian was speechless when he returned and held the item out. “For Wei Ying.”
Okay. They were going to get arrested for stealing some old lady’s yard ornament, but this was the funnest thing Wei Wuxian had ever seen. Stifling his laughter, he gently took the flamingo and pushed it back into the grass. “Thank you very much, Lan Zhan. But let’s go straight home now.”
Lan Wangji’s house was right down the street. Exactly how Wei Wuxian imagined: a perfectly trimmed, bright green lawn without a decoration in sight. Lan Wangji fumbled with his keys until he opened the front door for Wei Wuxian, allowing his guest to enter first. What an upstanding guy! He really had nothing to hide, huh? If someone was coming to Wei Wuxian’s place, he’d make them stand outside for half an hour while he hid anything incriminating.
Lan Wangji’s home was as inscrutable as he was. The living room had nothing but a bookshelf, a sofa, and a coffee table. Not even a TV! Looking at all that wasted space hurt Wei Wuxian’s heart. His cramped little dorm could barely fit his things.
“I’ve come this far, so I’ll make good on your offer to stay the night.” Wei Wuxian eyed the plain white couch. Lan Zhan was rich, but he was also very simple, so the furniture here could have cost anywhere from extremely cheap to more than Wei Wuxian’s college tuition. “Uh, on second thought, I’ll sleep on the ground.”
“No,” Lan Wangji said in offense. He pulled Wei Wuxian down the hall, into a bedroom. Again, it was the same: just white walls and barely any furniture. Where were the posters? Where were the post-it reminders stuck on the wall? How was Lan Wangji’s room as secretive as he was!?
There were only two things on Lan Wangji’s desk: a slim laptop, and a handful of small origami rabbits. Wei Wuxian picked one of them up. Something must have been written on it, but the text had faded too much with time.
Back in high school, Wei Wuxian used to fold little origami animals and toss them at the back of Lan Wangji's head. He always sat at the front of the class like a total nerd–he was practically asking for it!
“I used to make little bunnies like this for you back at Gusu. Do you remember?”
Lan Wangji stared at Wei Wuxian in silence. Just when he was about to speak up and dispel the awkward quiet, Wangji finally said, “I remember.”
Wei Wuxian grinned. “Do you like rabbits, Lan Zhan?”
“Mhm.” Lan Zhan nodded.
“Then I’ll start bothering you in class again.” He returned the little bunny to its rightful place with care. “Ahh, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, you'd have a stroke if you ever stepped foot in my room.” Looking at these poor bare white walls, Wei Wuxian wanted so badly to paint something, or tape car posters everywhere. He fell onto the bed, exhausted. “Nothing like your simple minimalism. You'd think I'm filthy.”
A heavy silence followed. Lan Wangji just stared at Wei Wuxian’s seat on the bed like he’d seen the heavens.
“Yeah, yeah, give me a blanket or something, I refuse to spill something on your either extremely frugal or luxurious couch.”
Lan Wangji just blinked at Wei Wuxian’s words blankly. Aww, how cute… not a damn thought behind those eyes.
Those beautiful, golden eyes…
“Wow, I am a lot more sleepy than I thought,” Wei Wuxian muttered. “Come on, Lan Zhan- ough!”
The mattress was so firm, it didn’t even bounce when Lan Wangji fell on top of him. Wei Wuxian squirmed under the man until Wangji rolled to the side.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian cried.
Lan Wangji already had his eyes closed. He reached out to wrap his arms around Wei Wuxian, then pulled him face-first into his chest.
“I, uh-” Wei Wuxian swallowed, struck dumb by the situation. “Lan Zhan, this… are you asleep already!?”
He probably could have pried himself out. He wasn’t weak by any means, and Lan Wangji had already drifted off, but…
Jiang Cheng was too emotionally stunted for hugs, Yanli-jie had been stolen away by that peacock bastard, and his adoptive parents were… out of the question when it came to affection. So it had kind of been a while since he’d been held like this.
And Lan Zhan smelled really nice. He was probably one of those super clean guys who showered every day with fancy soap bottles. Maybe the bar was a little low, but listen, they were college boys.
Wei Wuxian melted into Lan Wangji's chest, nuzzling his face into the soft fabric of his shirt.
“You win this round, Lan Zhan…”
Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji were friends now? Kind of?
They'd exchanged numbers! And actually texted each other!
Lan Zhan!
Let’s hang out after you're done class!!
Let’s hang out!!
Lan Zhan!!
Lan Wangji replied with a simple, Yes.
“Fucking hell,” Jiang Cheng whispered over his shoulder. “This is even worse than your stupid crush when we were at Gusu.”
“What?” Wei Wuxian blushed. “What are you-”
“Shut up,” he interrupted. “Pretend I didn’t say anything.”
“Jiang Cheng!” Wei Wuxian cried. “How can I pretend that? What did you mean?”
“I said shut up!” Jiang Cheng snapped. He pulled Wei Wuxian out of his seat, pushing him away and sitting down in his place. “Nie Huaisang said to come by.” He opened his phone and scrolled absentmindedly. “Don’t ask me why, I don’t know or care.”
On any other day, Wei Wuxian would have teased his brother about playing message delivery boy. Today, he just nodded and walked towards the residence building in a daze. Jiang Cheng’s words turned in Wei Wuxian’s head, over and over. Him? For Lan Wangji?
He had to admit, it did make sense. If Wei Wuxian was going to be gay for anyone, it would have to be Lan Wangji. The man was perfect in every way! Beautiful, intelligent, kind and upright… There was a reason Wei Wuxian doggedly annoyed Lan Wangji in highschool – no one was as much of a prude as him.
Then again, Lan Wangji was hardly the only hall monitor at Gusu. Wei Wuxian always went to him, though. Again and again.
No one else was as fun to tease as Lan Wangji! Wei Wuxian wanted to see angry puffed up cheeks, intense eyes, trembling fists… Lan Wangji never disappointed.
He groaned. How was he any better than those little boys that pulled at girls’ pigtails for attention?
“Wei Wuxian!”
Happy to let his train of thought be distracted, Wei Wuxian turned to Nie Huaisang. “Hey, you needed something?”
Oh right, didn’t Nie Huaisang have more than enough horny thoughts about Lan Wangji of his own? Before Wei Wuxian could bring up the topic, Huaisang was wailing for him pathetically. “Wei Wuxian, I need you so badly! Please tell me you’re free, I’ll pay you double!”
“Pay me?” Wei Wuxian repeated. “What, for your dri-”
“Yes, our sessions in the car!” That was a weird way to refer to their driving lessons, but okay? “Please?” Huaisang held his hands together. “I can’t wait any longer!”
Wei Wuxian blinked at the oddly-behaving man. Before he could ask what the fuck was wrong with him, someone stepped between them.
Lan Wangji pulled Wei Wuxian into his arms, shielding him from Huaisang’s view almost protectively. “Wei Ying does not have time for you.”
Wei Wuxian jolted in place, shocked at the raw anger in his voice. And he thought he made Lan Wangji mad!
Without another word, Lan Wangjo stormed off, pulling Wei Wuxian along with him. He glanced back at Huaisang before they turned a corner and saw him mouth, ‘You’re welcome!’
“Lan Zhan?” Wei Wuxian looked up at his friend, and wow, he’d never noticed how much taller Lan Wangji was until now… “Why are you here?”
“To hire you.” Lan Wangji didn’t slow down. “I’ll hire you everyday so no one else can.”
Wei Wuxian had been kissed before.
There was that time he’d upstaged Jin Zixuan at a basketball game, insisting he could make a half court shot while blindfolded.
And he did, by the way! In front of everyone, it was awesome! But he didn't take his blindfold off afterwards, and someone took advantage of that to… Anyway, the point was Wei Wuxian had been kissed before.
Sprawled across the mattress, Wei Wuxian looked back at his life.
In highschool, he met Lan Wangji. He made it his mission to tease the principal’s nephew relentlessly. He gained infamy at Gusu for being Lan Wangji's most detested classmate. He transferred to another school at Jiang Fengmian's suggestion. He met Lan Wangji again years later and discovered they had been accepted to the same university. He once again became the ire of Lan Wangji's school life.
All that accumulated to this moment: being pinned down by Lan Wangji on his bed, crying out with every rough thrust into his asshole.
There was a puddle of his own drool drying on his chin as he begged for leniency. “Gege, please! Mercy!” Wei Wuxian sobbed. “Please! Gege!”
Lan Zhan bit at his neck, adding more marks to previous bruises that were already starting to turn purple. “I know Wei Ying can take more than this.” He squeezed the meat of Wei Wuxian’s ass before returning to gripping his hips, then pulled Wei Wuxian back onto his cock.
He couldn't believe how relentless Lan Wangji was… he never would have imagined such helpless moans coming out of his own mouth.
For an absurd moment he wondered if Wei Wuxian’s neighbours could hear them. His ass was filled to the brim with another man's cum, and he was worried about noise complaints. Lan Zhan was already already rubbing off on him. Rubbing off in him, too.
“Lan Zhan…” Wei Wuxian’s belly was already a mess after the last orgasm Lan Wangji had wrung out of him.
Lan Wangji clenched his fist in Wei Wuxian’s hair, pulling him back forcefully. Wei Wuxian’s back arched under the rough treatment, his dick twitching desperately while Lan Wangji shoved his tongue into Wei Wuxian’s mouth. Wangji’s momentum didn’t slow down for a second while they slobbered against each other, fucking Wei Wuxian’s stretched out hole with precision.
That push-and-pull in his stomach was building, stronger than it ever had when Wei Wuxian touched himself alone. His cry when he came was guttural, like it had been pulled out from the deepest part of him. He collapsed forward onto his mattress, leaving his ass raised up in the air for Lan Wangji to use to completion.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji grunted behind him. He slammed into Wei Wuxian with all his weight, assaulting his overstimulated hole until he finally finished inside.
Lan Wangji leaned forward, his chest pressed against Wei Wuxian's back. He giggled when Lan Wangji nosed at his neck from behind. “Lan Zhan, that tickles!”
They cuddled for a few seconds before Lan Wangji pulled out and laid next to Wei Wuxian.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian breathed out. He stared into Lan Wangji’s piercing golden eyes, flustered by the steady gaze directed back at him.
“Wei Ying,” he answered.
What was someone supposed to say after losing their virginity to another man? Wei Wuxian said, “Great job.”
“Thank you,” Lan Wanji replied. “You as well.”
“You did most of the work,” he refuted. A pang shot up his back, and Wei Wuxian winced. “But, ah, maybe spare my spine next time…”
“Next time?” Lan Wangji's eyes gleamed with enthusiasm, something Wei Wuxian could identify on his face now.
“Look at you,” Wei Wuxian cooed, “you're excited aren't you?”
Lan Wangji, ever so straightforward, just nodded slowly. His face was as unbothered as ever, but his ears – they were bright red.
“By the way, what was that about ‘buying all my days’ earlier?”
His giddiness vanished. Lan Wangji looked aggrieved when he said, “No more working for other people.”
Wei Wuxian sighed, but shifted closer to cuddle his bed mate. Lan Wangji wrapped his arms around him right away. “I’ve always wondered, why do you hate it so much?”
“Wei Ying's time and company is too precious to sell so cheaply.” Lan Wangji huffed softly. “And they don't appreciate it enough.”
What a romantic answer! Wei Wuxian swooned and hid his blushing face in Lan Wangji's chest. “If it makes you feel any better, I've honestly been thinking of giving it up for a while. With how much time I spend on each request, I'd make more money per hour working minimum wage.”
“That would be wise,” Lan Wangji said cautiously.
Wei Wuxian nodded. “Yeah… unfortunate for everyone who comes to me for tutoring. They’re gonna have to pay full price at the library now.”
“...tutoring?”
“Yeah, that’s mostly what I do.” Wei Wuxian was beginning to slip off, drowsy from their, uh, previous actions. “Not all of it, though… also do stuff like driving lessons, like Huaisang earlier…”
“Oh,” Lan Wangji said. “Oh.” Wei Wuxian grumbled in displeasure when Lan Wangji shook him back into opening his eyes. Poor guy looked stricken. “Wait, so… so when I said I’d pay you and pushed you down…”
“Yeah, that was so hot,” Wei Wuxian sighed. “We’ll do that again, but I need a nap first…”
While he snored softly quietly into Lan Wangji’s embrace, the man stared at the ceiling, re-evaluating everything he knew.
At least everything worked out.
