He’s buried.
Castiel would not consider himself easily spooked. Wichita, Kansas: he’d grabbed a silver fork from some unfortunate grandmother’s china cabinet and buried it into the carotid of a snarling werewolf. Provo, Utah: he’d dug the grave of a mother of three and watched her burn as her mangled spirit made a valiant final effort to rip his brother’s heart out, final retribution that would never be delivered to her killer. Olive Branch, Mississippi: he’d exorcised his first demon. Right now, he's terrified.
He kicks as hard as he can, opens his mouth to scream, and finds it filled with soil.

Or: Human hunter Castiel is fresh out of Hell with nothing to show for it but a mysterious handprint on his shoulder (and some unresolved trauma). This certainly won't lead down a multi-year path of homoeroticism with one green-eyed angel.
