Chapter Text

After Weiss had arrived in Atlas, she got straight to work in making some necessary adjustments with the company as a whole after officially claiming her rightful place as the new CEO. After spending some time making these changes and getting the word out of her new reign across the world, Weiss returned to Vale near the end of summer and organized an assembly in front of the SDC building. As Weiss prepared to give her statement, Glass could be seen on the sidelines talking on his scroll.

Glass: “I promise you, young Whitley, I will find a way to cut her out.”

Whitley: “You’d better! This company rightfully belongs to me! We can’t allow her to poison father's legacy with her goody two shoes, bleeding heart nature!”

Glass: “Relax sir. I swear I’ll handle this. I’ve sent out a new device for testing into the city.”

Whitley: “You idiot! The Spiders will just destroy it like they did everything else!”

Glass: “I know. I don’t expect this one to succeed. This one is merely a test for my research into certain power alternatives. I swear I’ll handle Weiss, but not now. Not in such a public way when she’s the hottest thing right now. At best, this test can be an attack on her life to scare her. Make her fearful of any more attacks she may have to face.”

Whitley: “That is if it gets to her before its ruined.”

Stage staff: “Alright people, we’re just about ready!”

Glass: “Sorry Whitley, but that’s my cue to join the stage. I’ll let you know how it goes.” As he hung up and joined Weiss and a few other critical members of the Vale SDC staff on the stage as Weiss stood at the podium.

Weiss: “Citizens of Vale. I am Weiss Schnee. The new CEO of the international research and development and Dust excavation foundation, the Schnee Dust Company.” I perched on a nearby building to keep an eye on things when Ilia calls and informs me of danger.

Ruby: “What's up, Ilia?”

Ilia: “Got a problem a few blocks away from the assembly. Some kind of mech tank thing.” Ilia was seeing the upper body of a mech strolling through the street on tank treads. The body had four arms with various weapons. The upper right had a missile launcher. The lower right had some kind of scythe blade. The upper left had three claws for grabbing like Watts’ tentacles. And the lower left had a little drill looking thing surrounded by several little holes, probably some kind of blaster. The body had some kind of glass dome in the middle, likely the pilot’s seat, but it was tinted black so we can’t see inside. “I think I might need some help with this one.”

Ruby: “Okay, I’m on my way.” Our conversation ends and I make my way to the scene as Weiss continues her speech.

Weiss: “Earlier this year, we lost our previous CEO, my father, Jacques Schnee at the hands of a villain who used to work with us and killed him out of revenge for his treatment of not only herself, but of all of our other staff. This treatment came about from fathers way of running the company after he took control from my grandfather, Nicholas Schnee, and ruined his legacy. Now I stand before you as the one who will fix what my father has broken.” As this speech goes on, I arrive on the scene and engage the meh with Ilia, and we fight against this thing. Doing our best to avoid its attacks from the scythe, blaster and missiles. “And as for my announcement, it stems from more of a personal reason. Fathers awful behavior didn’t just end with the company, but with his family as well. He pushed our family to its limit as he tried to mold it into his perfect image for the next generation of Schnee, but all he did was tear us apart. Mother became unnaturally distant from us. My older sister left us to try and improve the family's reputation by joining the military. And my younger brother was the only one who fell under father's influence and truly became his spitting image. Even I decided to take my schooling elsewhere in Remnant under the guise of broadening my horizons for the company when I was really just distancing myself from him.” Ilia cloaks and sneaks around the mech while I distract it, and it ends up grabbing me with its claw. “Because of that, while Atlas will always hold a place in my heart, I have become more fond of my life here in Vale than I have in Atlas. Which is why, effective immediately, the Vale branch of the SDC is now the new main branch of the company rather than Atlas, and I will operate the company from here. I am already in talks with potential candidates to run the Atlas branch.” Just before it could strike me down with its scythe, Ilia got onto its back and started draining its power. After a short while, it lost all power and collapsed on its back as Ilia got off. Once I broke free of its grasp, we went straight for the glass dome and had to give it a few hard punches before it broke, only for us to see no one in there.

Ruby: “Shoot. Looks like it was on auto pilot.”

Ilia: “Damnit! Are you kidding me?” It was then that I heard a different voice. Now that Weiss is running the SDC, she decided to put a new AI in the spider server to aid us since PENNY was still her own assistant. We named it after my mom. And it even sounds like her.

SUMMER: “As discouraging as not having a crook to nab is, there is something interesting here. Look at what's printed on the seat. We once again find ourselves encountering the insignia of the illusive Tinkerer.”

Ilia: “But doesn’t he usually give these things to criminals?”

Ruby: “All the investigations into that showed he was just testing his inventions. Even if this breaks the villain pattern, it doesn’t break that pattern. This was another one of his tests as per the natural rules of experimentation for scientists.” It was then that we heard incoming sirens. Meaning that was our cue to leave the scene. We went back to the assembly and got back just in time for the end of Weiss’ speech.

Velvet: “One last question, Ms. Schnee. What exactly is your opinion of the Scarlet Spider and all the other heroes in this town?”

Weiss: “If you want my honest opinion, I say that with the rise of super villains over the last few years, Vale needs all the help it can get. So as absurd as some people might think it is for me to say, I say heroes like the Scarlet Spider are a necessary force in our society. Especially since they have done nothing but help us since day one. And I hope one day, I’ll be able to do my part to help in that endeavor.” She paused for a moment. “No more questions.” As she walked away from the podium and towards the SDC building. Security is working hard to hold back the press as Weiss shows a smirk on her face before she enters the SDC. Needless to say, her work towards a better future for Remnant has only just begun.
