Summary:

The sky is dark, with nothing to light it. The sun will soon rise once more, but nightmares are the only way out.

Trigger warnings occur, and are graphic.

Notes:

Trigger Warnings occur in this work and are extremely graphic. While they are flashback sequences, they are not censored. There will be a change in chapter before each dream sequence, so use those if you do not wish to see the events play out. I will put an asterisk on chapters WITHOUT any flashbacks. If there is not asterisk, please be prepared for the graphic scenes.

I do not wish to speak for anyone who has gone through something similar to this, and if these things make you uncomfortable, feel free to leave and have a nice day/night.

I sincerely hope that my depiction of these horrible circumstances does not offend anyone, and if it does, then I wholeheartedly apologize

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Preparation *No Graphic Scenes

Chapter Text

The darkness seems to go on forever, as two people walk through.

“Hey, birdie. Before we go farther, I have to tell you something that you might not want to hear.” Gallagher says, stopping in his tracks. Sunday turns around to face him.

“What is it? Surely, it isn’t that bad compared to everything else we’ve been through in the past few days.” Sunday remarks.

Gallagher sighs. “Something about traveling in the Nihility is…it suffocates you in your thoughts. Your memories. While I might not be affected due to not having many negative ones, you…will not be as lucky.”

Sunday freezes. “What does that mean? Will it hurt us?” he asks quietly, and Gallagher’s heart breaks at the sound of fear. They both know what this means.

“No. Not physically. But the Nihility…it tries to drown you in despair and hopelessness. Those memories will only…enhance those feelings.” Gallager replies, and Sunday takes a deep breath. It’ll be fine. Surely…it won’t be everything. He won’t see everything, right…?

The pair continue through the darkness, and nothing seems to change. Sunday pauses, feeling tension grow behind his eyes. He stops, rubbing at the sides of his face before continuing onward.

“You alright?” Gallagher asks, to which Sunday nods. However, as they continue on, Sunday’s headache continues to get worse. He grits his teeth, closing his eyes. He takes another step and the pain spikes. Sunday’s legs give out, and he collapses to the ground, holding his head.

“Sunday! Are you okay?! What happened?” Gallagher asks, concerned. He then freezes, realizing what’s happening.

“Is this…is this what it’s…supposed to feel like?” Sunday weakly asks, before cutting off with a high pitched whine. Gallagher nods, before wrapping Sunday in his arms.

“I’m sorry, dove, it’s about to start. Close your eyes, I promise, I’ll be here the entire time. Sunday nods, before closing his eyes. A few seconds later, they both slump to the ground.
