Summary
Before he could miracle himself to his flat, a voice stopped him.
“Mr. Crowley. Oh, thank goodness,” Muriel called. They darted across the street as Crowley seriously considered making a run for it. “Please don’t go; you’re the only one who can help me.”
Something about the fear in their voice made his stomach twist and an icy finger of dread crawl down his spine. He stood stock still, frozen by the need to run and the bitter certainty that something was about to be terribly wrong.
“It’s Aziraphale,” Muriel said as they stepped up to him.
“What about him,” Crowley forced himself to ask.
“He’s not in Heaven.”
“Well, I’m sure the Supreme Archangel is very busy.”
“No, he’s not. The Supreme Archangel.”
Crowley sneered. “You mean The Metatron lied?” He scoffed. “Not so much of a shock, is it? He—“
“But that’s just it. He wasn’t. He wasn’t The Metatron at all.”
There it was. Crowley’s whole body turned to ice. “What.”
“Whomever it was, they took Aziraphale. I can’t find him.”
