Chapter Text
Mumbo tossed and turned. The rustling of his bedsheets were the only noises he could hear for a moment, before they quieted down and were replaced with the ambient sounds of his redstone contraptions whirring in the distance. His machines creaked and groaned, enormous gears turning slowly in the walls of his base. Mumbo rolled around so he laid face-down on his bed while fully regretting to build so close to his bedroom, finding the noise to be too distracting to be pleasant white noise that could lull him to sleep. He laid on his back again and firmly shut his eyes against the faint glow that the moon cast through his base. He supposed he could make automatic curtains, hooked up to some daylight sensors outside of his base… It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes to make, really.
Before he realized what he was doing, he had stumbled out of bed and had headed over to his chests. He wiped the sleep from his eyes and grabbed what he needed, knocking over some comparators in the process. Ah. Well, he could clean that up later. He fumbled with some rockets and had a few mishaps with taking off, but once he did he was gaining speed, the wind rushing past his ears and chilling him through his thin pyjamas, until he turned too quickly and flew into a wall.
MumboJumbo experienced kinetic energy.
Ouch.
Sheets were wrapping around him, they tangled his legs. His bed was still warm, but he wasn’t. Phantom pains tingled around his body, especially bothering his left arm and shoulder. He stood up and immediately sat down, dizziness overtaking him and blackening the fuzzy edges of his vision, but after he breathed in deeply he tried again. Once the chests contained one less elytra, off he was, and careful of the wall he recollected his stuff, then flew to the best spot outside of his base and started building the contraption. The stars wheeled by, as did the moon, while he was working. The land was quiet and the air smelled pleasantly cold and sharp like it always did at night. It was odd to see the server so quiet. Everyone was asleep. Well, except him, he supposed.
Once he finished he sat down next to it, hands coated in sticky redstone and with a few newly acquired red streaks across his pajamas. Much to his dismay the sun was rising already, meaning he missed his chance at sleeping and, more importantly, he couldn’t properly test his work! He grumbled; stupid sun.
The edges of cold and damp rocks pressed into his back as he wiped his hands on the grass next to him. The grass took on a red colour, highlighted even more when the (stupid) sun peeped over the far-away mountain and covered everything in a blushing pink hue. Although he was dismayed at having missed a full night of sleep, he couldn’t bring himself to mind too much when it brought him the sight of how beautiful of a place they lived in, sometimes gone unnoticed or unappreciated due to various pranks and projects and what-nots.
He decided he could stay and rest for a while longer. Life would wait.
