Chapter 18: Chapter 17

Chapter Text

Ruby rubbed her head already feeling a headache forming from this case. Stiles noticed his sister's discomfort and grabbed the pill bottle from his bag and his water bottle.

"Hand." Ruby held out her hand without looking away from the map. Stiles dropped two pills in Ruby's hand, watching as she tossed them in her mouth. "Drink." He held his straw out to her. Ruby turned her head away long enough to take a long sip of water, swallowing the pills.

"Thanks, Sti." Ruby smiled, turning back to the map, marking down another crime point.

"No problem." Stiles snapped his straw shut, sliding the bottle and pills back in his bag.

Cassandra, Kevin, Daniel and Isabel watched them silently, exchanging looks. That's the bond they've heard about, the bond they keep getting little inside glimpse of and they wished to have a bond like that one day.

"So, this hunter seems like a protector of some sorts," Stiles continued the conversation they were on before. "Except he killed someone who had - in his mind - no right to be here."

"But did have the right to be here." Cassandra finished. Stiles nodded.

"It's strange, you so rarely see hunters killing because they're passing through a territory." Daniel tilted his head, biting the pen. "Especially when it's not their territory."

Ruby hummed, finishing up the geographical profile, "What if it is, their territory."

The five turned to Ruby confused. Daniel shook his head, "I've been looking through the records, there's no hunter living on the territory."

"I know that." Ruby nodded.

"Ok, Ru, explain, please." Stiles asked.

"This isn't their territory, we know that, but what if the hunter believes it is." Ruby pulled out the poison they used. "Daniel, Cassandra, did you find where the Djinn poison came from?"

"Uh, yeah." Daniel pulled up the hunter families who use Djinn poison. "I have three families, but none live here or close to here."

"Let me see."

Daniel handed over the laptop. Ruby scanned the short list.

Gunner

Oakley

Porter

Ruby paused on the second last name. Oakley. Bingo, Ruby thought, grabbing the list of potential unsubs. "You are half-right." Ruby scanned the list quickly finding the person she's looking for. "Megan Turner."

"Who is that? And why is she important?" Stiles asked, confused.

"Because Turner is her stepfather's last name. Her original last name is Oakley." Ruby turned the laptop around. The team looked between the laptop and Ruby, understanding dawning on their faces.

"Daniel, get us everything you can on Megan and her family."

"On it." Daniel nodded, taking his laptop back.

"Cassandra, did you figure out an antidote for the Djinn poison?" Stiles asked the witch.

Cassandra shook her head, "Not yet, but I'm close. Give me five more hours and I'll figure it out." Cassandra grabbed her file and walked out, moving to the room Captain Anderson set up so she could make the antidote. It was blocked off from the humans on the force, key card access only herself, Brown, Stiles and Ruby had.

"Agents," Captain Brown rushed in with an officer behind him. Brown closed the door behind him. "One of the patrolling betas heard a distress call."

Ruby set down the files. "Was the person taken?"

Brown shook his head, "Chris was able to stop them but the were was poisoned."

"Djinn poison?" Kevin asked. Cassandra hasn't finished the antidote yet. If the were was poisoned with Djinn poison, they'd have no way to save them.

Thankfully Brown shook his head. "Wolfsbane and mistletoe. Chris got to the beta in time before the hunter could administrate the Djinn poison."

"Kevin, Isabel with us." Ruby ordered slipping on her jacket.

Stiles grabbed his jacket, looking at Daniel. "Keep searching."

"Will do." Daniel nodded, not minding staying back. Yes, he's a field agent but he's also a computer whiz and their researcher when Stiles and Ruby were busy.

The four agents rushed out the building, Brown and a few officers following behind. Ruby tossed Stiles the keys, sliding into the passenger seat.

Isabel and Kevin slid into the backseat, buckling quickly as Stiles drove quickly. Ruby looked back at the two, "When we get there, I want you two to talk to the beta who found the victim. Stiles and I will talk to the victim."

"Got it." Isabel nodded.

Kevin gave a nod and leaned back in his seat.

~~~
"Chris!" Captain Brown rushed out his cruiser to the blond haired weretiger, Kevin and Isabel followed behind.
Ruby and Stiles moved to the ambulance where the victim was being looked over. The two could sense the medics were also tigers so they left the victim in their hands.
"Excuse me?" The two stopped in front of the ambulance.
"How is she?" Ruby asked, looking over the victim. God, the girl couldn't be older than 14-years-old. Dyed blue hair chopped short, deep bags under her brown eyes. The teen wasn't looking at anyone, staring at the floor.
"She's lucky Chris got to her in time." One medic said, stepping towards them. "Beta Lisa More. This is Beta Robin Sawn. Betas of Alpha Hayes pack."
Robin nodded in greeting, focusing back on the victim.
"We burned the wolfsbane and mistletoe out of her. No Djinn poison was in her system. There are a few cuts that will need time to heal."
Ruby nodded, tapping Stiles' shoulder twice. Stiles gave her a glance and a nod, focusing back on Lisa. Ruby moved towards Robin and the victim.
"Hi." Ruby stopped in front of the victim.
"All good here." Robin told her stepping back.
"Thanks." Ruby nodded, turning back to the teen. "Can I sit?" She asked.
"Sure." The teen muttered.
Ruby smiled a little sitting next to her, with enough space between them so the teen doesn't feel cramped. "Can you tell me your name?" She asked.
The teen side eyed Ruby for a moment. "Abigail."
"Last name?" Ruby asked.
"Presley. Abigail Presley."
Ruby glanced at Isabel making sure she heard. Isabel nodded, pulling out her phone to text Daniel. "Alright, Abigail, let's get you somewhere warm."
"Where?" Abigail asked.
"Well, my team and I are set up at the police station. You'd be safe there." Ruby promised.
"Are you going to contact my parents?"
Ruby tilted her head, brows furrowing in confusion and worry. "Is there a reason we shouldn't?" She asked softly.
Abigail glanced at the people surrounding her, then back at Ruby. "They don't want me." Abigail clipped, crossing her arms protectively around herself.
Ruby nodded slowly, glancing at Stiles holding up two fingers, then three. A sign that they shouldn't call the parents. Stiles nodded once, turning towards his team.
Ruby looked back at Abigail who was staring at the ground. "We won't call them."
Abigail's head snapped up, "You won't?"
"We won't." Ruby promised. "But we do need to get you to the station. We need to know what happened." Abigail nodded slowly standing up. Ruby helped her with a hand on her back. "Careful, you're still healing."
Ruby helped her to the officer cruiser, bending down to look into Abigail eyes "Officer Quinn is going to bring you back, okay? We'll meet you there."
"Okay." Abigail nodded.
"Okay." Ruby smiled, softly closing the door. Turning to the officer, Ruby gave him a stern look. "Get her back safely."
Officer Quinn nodded, "Yes Ma'am."
Ruby watched the cruiser leave before heading back to her team. Captain Brown and Chris stood with them. "Chris, correct?" Ruby asked.
"Yes. Christopher Roger." Chris and Ruby shook hands. "Mark already told me you need my statement."
"We do." Stiles nodded. "If you come down with us, Captain Brown can take it." Stiles looked at Brown. The tiger nodded, knowing his packmate would feel more comfortable talking to him than them. Chris might be a fan of the two like most people are, but Chris was a teenager.
Having two powerful people questioning him would make him nervous and make mistakes with remembering what happened.
"How about Alpha Hayes?" Kevin asked, glancing at his bosses. "Do we contact him?"
"Yes." Stiles nodded.
"I have a feeling we need him." Ruby added thinking about Abigail. The fourteen-year-old needed a pack, and if she couldn't join Hayes pack, maybe the alpha could find a pack for her to go to.
"I'll have some of my guys trace the hunters scent." Brown told the Agents.
"Good. Isabel," the wolf turned to Ruby. "Do you feel comfortable with helping with the search and getting a ride from one of the officers?" Ruby asked, not wanting to send Isabel in alone if the wolf wasn't comfortable working with other wolves.
Isabel nods, straightening up. "Of course. I don't mind."
"Good."
Brown motioned for three of his officers to step forward. "You three will be working with Agent Danson to track this hunter. I don't want any fights; do you understand me?" Brown ordered his packmates.
"Yes, sir." The three nodded.
Ruby and Stiles stepped to the side with Isabel. "You're in charge but remember-"
"Don't overstep." Isabel nodded. "I know, and I won't."
"Good. Stay safe." Ruby told her. Stiles squeezed Isabel's shoulder. The wolf smiled at them, relaxing a little at their silent reassurance. Ruby and Stiles watched as the four locked onto the hunter scent and took off.
Brown, Ruby, Stiles, and Kevin stared until they couldn't see them anymore.
Stiles sighed, rolling his shoulders, "Let's head back to the station."
Brown nodded heading to his cruiser while the three agents walked to the SUV.
"Do you think Isabel's going to be okay alone?" Kevin asked.
Ruby glanced back at him, "She will be. We'll be keeping an eye on her." She flashed her eyes. Kevin smiled, relaxing at the assurance that they'd be keeping an eye on their teammate.
