Now that he was finally alone with his thoughts, Yoo Joonghyuk could reluctantly admit to himself that this life had ended even before the apocalypse. He had simply been too scared to accept the fact. There had been a good reason why Yoo Joonghyuk had spent so much time on mundane things and only posted backlogged videos. He’d been avoiding streaming. He still loved video games, but he no longer wanted to publicise his reactions to them. He’d like to return to gaming one day, but as a silent observer of the plot, not someone forced to interact with hundreds of people, all of whom presumed to know him.
Now that he thought about it… The reason he liked video games so much was the limited amount of control they provided. Yoo Joonghyuk could influence the story, could tell the character what to do, but only to an extent that the developers let him. It was a sweet illusion of power… the illusion that Yoo Joonghyuk had to let go of.
He needed to actually take control of his life… or to surrender it entirely. Either to let Kim Dokja do his thing and blindly follow orders, or to stop passively going with the flow and start building up his own resources.

Seolhwa was standing among a group of people, and Yoo Joonghyuk’s heart skipped a beat at seeing her again. He’d missed her. Despite their differences, despite the fact that they’d been doing nothing but arguing before choosing to end their relationship, the love had been there. Seolhwa wasn’t just a crush, she was also a friend, someone who knew Yoo Joonghyuk best and accepted him as he was: his shitty temper, his anger issues, his inability to express himself through words. Losing her had hurt; not knowing whether she’d been alive had been torturous, even if Yoo Joonghyuk had tried to shove the thought deep down and concentrate on the present.-
Kim Dokja immediately distracted the kids, comforting them, and Yoo Joonghyuk quietly envied the easiness with which Kim Dokja found the suitable approach. He wished he could do the same, but words just kept failing him, and when he tried to rely on actions, half of the time people misinterpreted his intentions. It was easier not to try altogether and live with the reputation of a cold, uncaring asshole. Not that it was that far from the truth.

Yoo Joonghyuk now knew what he was going to do about his feelings… which was nothing. He’d help Kim Dokja reach his happy ending, because the man deserved it, because Kim Dokja finally stopping his endless pursuit and learning to appreciate what he already had had been Yoo Joonghyuk’s perfect final for him since the start. If Kim Dokja’s “endgame” was as good as Han Sooyoung had advertised, then Yoo Joonghyuk would step aside and get over himself. He was many things, but an asshole forcing his feelings upon someone who didn’t need them wasn’t one of those.
