Work Text:
It was a Tuesday, so of course it was the day that the less reputable side of the Steambird was running trashy speculations about Neuvillette’s love life.
“You know~” Furina sing-songed as she waved the latest article theatrically around while she perched on the edge of Neuvillette’s desk. A position she’d taken often before everything in Fontaine had fallen apart and then somehow come back to together. A position she’d fallen back into all too easily after some minor manipulations by the Melusine’s had ended with her once again making regular visits to Neuvillette’s office. “One day one of these writers are going to be correct, and once that happens you need to be prepared, my dear Iudex.”
“Oh?” Neuvillette asked without raising his head from his paperwork, voice disinterested as he continued, “And why is that?”
“I’m so glad you asked!” Furina said brightly at the cue she’d been expecting, pulling a jewelry box from the bag hanging from her wrist with a flourish that caught the dragon’s eyes. “As it so happens, as your oldest and dearest companion, I have magnanimously prepared for you a gift to give to the beautiful young mademoiselle that might catch your eye one day. Every girl loves to be shown that she’s appreciated. If you were to give her this as a token to express your interest, why, I’m sure there’s no way she could say no!”
“Hmm, is that so?” Neuvillette murmured as he opened the box that Furina sat on the desk before him, lifting the bracelet from where it lay on its velvet bed within the box.
Furina’s heart stopped as Neuvillette carefully caught hold of her fingers and brought her arm towards him, solemnly wrapping the bracelet around her wrist and closing its clasp with gentle but firm dexterity as Furina’s face lit up like it suddenly caught fire and her mind imploded, utterly halting of all thoughts at the look in Neuvillette’s eyes as he met her gaze from only inches away.
“Then can I assume that the answer as to whether or not you’ll accompany me to dinner this evening is a yes?”
