Soulless, Castiel says, that’s what he came out of the Cage as, but now Sam wonders if there’s another end of that spectrum, overfull and unable to get rid of the pressure behind his lungs, the popping in his ears, the way his muscles never strain right or how he has to choose to sleep.
And then he kills a demon, no knife, not even the movement of his hand, just a blink and a sharply focused thought that pierces right through the horror inside their vessel’s body and rips it apart with blinding light.
There is something inside Sam, and not even Death’s wall can keep it trapped.
