Chapter Text

But I Still Hold Out Hope That Maybe Someday, I'll Be Worth More Than All The Silence Left In My Wake

Hawks

He’d been punished for causing the death of a civilian by not being quick enough to save them in a large-scale attack that happened because of some yakuza thugs. He saved everyone but them and he’d never forget it. They’ll never let him. But also he failed. He wasn’t fast enough. And his handlers were pissed. There was so much happening, he did what he could. He’s the number two hero, but their expectations just got larger with it.

Hawks cried out, pathetically whimpering and whistling because of the pain on his back. They took his wings , all that was left was the stumps, even the blood feathers ripped slowly and agonizingly from the bony structure for each and every person that was injured and twice as many for the death. Every . Single . One . They ripped all his talons out for good measure, both on his hands and his feet, even breaking some of his already crooked fingers. Given him a black eye, kicked at his ribs until it was painful to breathe, smacked him enough to leave a hand shaped welt on the side of his face. Hit him in the head until he was seeing stars.

For each bird noise he made, the handler with the electricity based quirk would shock him to the point of giving him muscle spasms. Or would whip his back, making blood drip down and collect on the floor beneath him or on his compression shorts or what was left of the back of his shirt.

He was so cold , only left in the compression layer he’d wear under his stupid khaki hero costume. And his head swam, making his vision blurry every so often.

Hawks had to get out of there. He had to leave. He needed help. Where was he even? He flew here himself. Where was he? Where was he?

Building 12. There was nothing around here besides tall office buildings but there was an emergency exit down the hall and to the right. If he could just get there. He tries to move, quickly finding out he wasn’t even tied up.

They were just that confident he would comply? Maybe, if he hadn’t been tasked with infiltrating the League he would have complied.
On a small table outside the room, was his hero costume jacket. His phone was in there. In the secret pocket he’d added in all of them by hand thanks to Twice teaching him briefly how to sew a few weeks ago.

He grabbed the phone and nothing else.

The door wasn’t even locked.

He ran

An alarm rang. Lights flashed. But he kept running, a few buildings down and tangling in between the alleyways. He was being chased, he was sure of it, but he couldn’t hear anyone.

He tripped, his ankle twisting painfully and ending in him eating dirt. Hawks crawled over to the mouth of the ally, sure he was far enough away to try calling for help. Relying on muscle memory, he shakily calls Dabi’s number, collapsed on the floor of the alley with blood pooling around him already.

The hero couldn’t tell how long it rang until he put it on speaker to hear his m- boyfriend’s gravelly voice. "Hey birdy, how was work?"
