"Your home is beautiful," Laurence tells him, one day, when they are supervising the workmen raising the pillars for the beginnings of Temeraire's pavilion. "I must thank you for your hospitality."
"It was never in question," Tharkay says.
Laurence cannot help but stare at him. It must have been a question. "You are housing a fully grown dragon and have asked nothing of me," he points out.
"Will," Tharkay says, eyebrows now slightly furrowed, eyes piercing as always. "Surely you must know."
Laurence does not know.
