Desperately. Everyone was desperately trying to get things out of Seungmin today. Rumours about him and Lee Minho dating had spread around like wildfire this morning in his high school.
Someone from their class had spotted them at the arcade yesterday, doing things that no innocent pair of friends would do. Seungmin blames Minho. The insolent brat had been too bold yesterday, holding Seungmin's hand while driving his stupid car, purposely loosing at the arcade games so Seungmin would kiss his stupid lips, his stupid boyfriend had cornered him the parking lot just to make out with him. Lee Minho had gone bershek yesterday, for what reason, no one knew.
There was a very narrow chance of no one at school finding out about them while Minho was proudly flaunting their relationship everywhere else. His stupid but cute boyfriend who had made Seungmin's birthday yesterday very memorable, who treats him like they weren't past their honeymoon phase a whole year into dating, who had a little begrudgingly sent his cats back to his parents house because Seungmin was allergic.
Seungmin remembers crying that day, he felt regret and guilt like no other. Felt responsible for having to seperate his boyfriend from his beloved cats. He also remembers his boyfriend leaving all his grudges about the incident behind and instead comforting Seungmin, letting him know that it wasn't his fault, that he can always visit his parents, they live barely half an hour away and that its anyway better for the cats to live where they had been comfortable for the past 6-7 years.
Seungmin knew the last one was false, something Minho had said purely for his consolation but it somewhat helped. He cried for hours in his boyfriends arms, apologizing and apologizing. Minho had been there the whole time, taking care of him and tucking him to sleep.
Seungmin didn't know what he did to have Minho as his boyfriend. His stupid Minho who went to lengths for their dates and birthdays and anniversaries. Seungmin was trying his best to be just as good at being a boyfriend.
"Do you really think they're dating? I've never seen them interact like that." He heard a guy say while he was passing by in the corridors.
"Maybe its just false rumours, Lee Minho is a fuckboy." The girl beside him answered. "you really think he would date Kim Seungmin?" She added as an afterthought.
"Come on, even if he did date, you think he would date a grade A nerd like Seungmin? Just because they share the same group doesn't mean they are dating. I am sure he has better options." The boy answered.
"Better options like me?" The girl cupped her face with her palms, spreading them out to form a flower around her face.
They were starting to get on Seungmin's nerves now. All day he had heard some kind of derogatory comment either about himself or Minho, it was overwhelming. Some were shading Minho for playing with Seungmin's feelings, some accused Seungmin of spreading the rumours, all his acquaintances, lab partners, book club members were up in his business, asking borderline offensive questions. He even had someone throw paper balls his way in class that read the word so derogatory he was on the brink of bawling his eyes out. People knew no limits.
On top of that, today just happened to be the day for Minho's soccer club match away from school. He wasn't scheduled to return to school until tomorrow.
To match Seungmin's day, it had started raining, atleast he had an umbrella. Did Minho bring an umbrella with him? Probably not, he was always careless.
By the time lunch break rolled around, the rain had become just a little calm but Seungmin had grown more and more agitated. Everyone looked at him like he had grown an extra head, all. goddamn. day.
He contemplated just ditching the rest of school day and going home. Maybe he'll go directly to Minho's place and not leave his boyfriend's bed until the said boyfriend comes home, drenches him in attention and comfort and then makes him some delicious food. But he had an important assignment submission after lunch and he could bear this until then. He was strong despite what Changbin said about his lanky arms.
Lunch helped, food and friends the second best comfort he could seek right now. While Chan and Changbin glaringly scared off whoever was trying to look their way, the rest had tried cheering him up, steering his mind off of the horrible morning he had.
Just as he was done with lunch, giggling at something Jisung was mimicking, his phone rang. The screen displayed his boyfriend's number.
"Yah, Kim Seungmin. Can you come pick me up from the parking lot? I don't have an umbrella." Right after Seungmin had said yes, Minho cut off the call with a simple "great, thanks!", not waiting for Seungmin to ask why Minho was at school when he should be in a match. But he was glad, glad might be an understatement, he was fucking relieved.
He excused himself from the table, letting them know where he was going as he picked up his umbrella from his locker and headed towards the parking lot in a hurry, waiting to break into his boyfriend's arms.
There he was. Leaning on his car, scrolling through his phone, comfortable in his black soccer shorts, a simple black tshirt that replaced his jersey and his nike air forces that seungmin customized. He looked like he didn't have a care in the world and Seungmin couldn't explain how but it helped him feel better, maybe it was just Minho's presence that had his anxiety settling down or the fact that he wouldn't have to go through the rest of the day alone. All Seungmin cared about was that Minho was here.
Minho didn't notice him at first but quickly looked up when he heard footsteps. A small and sad smile gracing his lips as soon as they met eyes. Seungmin discarded the closed umbrella on the hood of Minho's, freely falling into his arms to hide away.
Minho seemed to know because he held Seungmin so close to his heart, almost crushing him in the grip.
"I am so sorry baby."
"'s not your fault, I loved spending time with you yesterday." Seungmin sniffled, blinking back any tears that reached his lash line but they just wouldn't go.
"I am still sorry, you had to go through this alone the whole day. I wish I'd known sooner." Minho gently swayed them from side to side, lulling Seungmin into a state of melancholy. His tears silently slipped down his eyes, a few hiccups making him jerk in his Minho's protective hold.
Seungmin left the apology in the air, not wanting to remember his day. Instead he relished in the comfort that Minho's scent brought him and seeked out their own world where he could hide and feel safe. Minho held him tight, whispering sweet nothings in his ear, assuring him that he was here that he will make sure seungmin's okay.
The puppy in Minho's arms held none of his own weight, instead relying on his boyfriend to keep him up which Minho did, he was strong enough to hold both their weights and Seungmin had never been more glad about it. Well, thats a lie, maybe once or twice in the bedroom, his thoughts steered.
"Did you ditch your match?" Seungmin asked instead when they finally seperated from the hug, Minho still had his arms around Seungmin's waist protectively only letting go to wipe off seungmin's tears before his hand went back to its rightful place. Minho had always loved his waist, gushing about how tiny it was, fitting right into Minho's arms.
"Just the second half, we were winning away." His boyfriend shrugged it and motioned for seungmin to grab the umbrella instead as he picked up his own backpack and threw it on his shoulder, sliding under the umbrella alongside Seungmin.
"Did you have lunch?" Minho asked, sliding seungmin's hand holding the umbrella a little to Seungmin's own side so the boy wouldn't get wet.
They fell into conversation easily, as Minho tried to make seungmin cover himself properly with the umbrella a couple more times, but the puppy cared for him just as much so Seungmin stubbornly let his side get wet, protecting Minho instead.
On the fourth try, Minho had finally had it. His boyfriend slid his arm across Seungmin's waist and yanked him closer, keeping a tight grip so Seungmin wouldn't escape.
Seungmin gasped loudly, before letting out a loud laugh. To tease him further, for barely a few seconds, he tipped the umbrella to his side to leave Minho in the rain without cover. The look on his boyfriends face almost bordered on offense. When Seungmin did it a few more times, Minho simply used the hand on his waist to tickle his side which made Seungmin curve away from Minho's side completely and land in front of him instead.
They stood still under the rain, facing each other. Seungmin momentarily glanced up to see the raindrops dreamily falling onto his transparent umbrella before meeting eyes with his boyfriend.
They were filled up to the brim with love, love for Seungmin.
Overwhelmed, shy Seungmin tried glancing away but Minho's sudden grip on his jaw made him face Minho again and then they were kissing. Minho's lips soft and gentle against his, just the meeting of their lips had flowers blooming in his belly.
Kissing under the rain, Minho and Seungmin both would have thrown up at the cliche but cliche's are often magical right? Seungmin understood. Nothing could be more magical than this moment right here. His boyfriend protectively holding him against his own body, their lips baring each others essence and the clouds parting to give way for hazy ray of light to pass, falling through Seungmin's umbrella and glistening on Minho's saliva coated lips
It was too late when they realized they were standing right in the middle of their buzzing campus on a lunch break, the whole school baring witness to their little makeout session. Minho only looked around when Seungmin gasped on seeing the audience collected behind Minho. His boyfriend's lazy eyes scanning the people staring at them from each corner of their campus, some pretending to walk to linger longer around them, there were some who seemed uninterested and continued with their day but that was only a small amount, and the rest were just outright staring.
"Are you okay?" Minho turned Seungmin's face towards his with a gentle palm. The concern on Minho's face was like nothing Seungmin had ever seen.
Seungmin looked around again and then back at Minho, realizing how little these people meant to him. They barely existed if he lived by Minho's life rules. But the person standing in front of him, he was the only one who mattered, who Seungmin genuinely cared about. So what if their school thought Seungmin wasn't worthy of Minho? Seungmin was the one involved in the relationship, he knew it better. The loud mouths knew nothing.
"Never been better." Seungmin smiled, leaning to kiss Minho once more before he tucked himself back into Minho's side, continuing their walk to the cafeteria where the rest of their group was seated.
As they got settled besides each other closer than they'd ever sat before in school, Seungmin let his head drop on Minho's shoulder, zoning out of whatever conversation was at hand and instead relishing in the calm that was his boyfriend, nuzzling into his neck.
Minho's hand rested on his shoulder, effectively pulling him closer. He would drop his head down and glance Seungmin's way every now then to converse with him, dropping kisses all over his face mid conversation. He could hear all the ew's and "get a room!" every now and then from his friends, teasing them harshly and could also hear the loud mumbles of everyone else in the cafeteria but he couldn't bring himself to care enough when this is the coziest he has been with Minho in front of anyone.
He felt good in a way, to show everyone that Minho belonged to him and him solely.
He could feel everyone's attention on them when Minho dropped him off to the lecture after lunch and picked him up to head to the last lecture that they coincidentally shared.
Minho rested his palm on Seungmin's thigh like he always did. Minho drove him home like he always did. Minho dropped him off with a small kiss, promising to pick him up the next day, like he always did. Minho called him at night to ask him if he had dinner and had brushed his teeth, if he had tucked himself properly to avoid catching a cold, reminded him to bring a jacket because Seungmin always forgot, like he always did.
Only now, the world knew.
bonus
Seungmin hadn't told Minho about the paperball with the derogatory comment, he had let all that go, not wanting anyone in their business anymore. In a way, he had let off the paperball owner off easily and it was chewing at him a little
But people are their own worst enemies right?
The guy, who Seungmin assumed was the paperball owner, called him the same term again when he saw Seungmin walking down the hallway alone and his little group of friends laughed. Seungmin ignored, Seungmin held back his anger, no way will he let this guy get under his skin.
The next day, the guy had come in with a black eye, a busted lip and bandages littered all over his right hand. Seungmin waited and waited and waited for the words to fall out of the guys mouth when they saw each other in class or in the hallway that day but it was in vain. The guy started avoiding Seungmin like the plague.
A small scratch on Minho's knuckles was all it took for Seungmin to confirm his theory.
