Lucy wanted more than anything to get home and sleep for a week. The last few days have been a clusterfuck from hell, and all Lucy wanted to do was lay down in her bed with her sexy-as-hell boyfriend and watch Top Cheif. However, Instead of getting the much-needed shut-eye, she was in the hospital with said sexy boyfriend after they had to fight off like 20 crazy masked mercenaries.
Lucy was in the ER waiting for Tim to get back from his Head CT. He had taken a couple of good blows to the head, so the doctor wanted to play it safe and make sure there was no concussion or brain bleeds. Lucy and Tim also had blood drawn due to the many cuts they had sustained from the weapons the masked men were using to ensure they hadn't contracted anything. Luckily so far, there was nothing too serious, just a few cuts and bruises but better safe than sorry.
Lucy was sitting on her phone scrolling through Instagram, waiting for an update on Aaron and Tim's return, when the E.R. Doctor walked up to her bed in the ER.
“Officer Chen, we also got your test results back and Seargent Bradford’s. Both of your blood panels came back clean, but I wanted to ensure you were aware. Did you know you're pregnant?” The Doctor’s question made Lucy’s jaw fall to the floor.
“ What?”
“Yes, and from your HCG levels, I’d say your about 16 weeks.”
Lucy was in shock. How did she not notice? Four months is a long time to go without noticing there is a tiny human growing inside you. What about work? She couldn’t go undercover while pregnant. What would this mean for her career? She knows female cops have babies all the time, but she is only just getting started, and she had been hoping to wait a couple more years. Through her racing thoughts, one came to the four front of her mind. How am I going to tell Tim? It was met with only a brief moment of panic before she remembered that they had been talking about kids and grandkids since their second first date seven months ago. If there was one thing she knew for sure was that Tim had wanted to be a dad for a very long time, and if she was being honest with herself, she knew she wanted to be a mom. She soon felt the smile creep its way onto her face until it dawned on her.
“Is the baby okay?” Lucy asked worriedly, but the ER doctor smiled reassuringly.
“ I will have someone from OB come in to give you an ultrasound, but I would say, being as you aren't showing any signs of miscarriage, that the baby is probably fine, but we will check to make sure.”
Lucy took a deep calming breath at that. Then an idea hit her.
“This may sound like a weird request, but instead of them coming here, can I go to them?”
When they got back to Lucy’s apartment, Tim decided he needed a shower, and the moment the door to the bathroom closed, she went to her closet in search of the only way she could appropriately give this news to Tim.
When Tim got out of the bathroom, he felt like a whole new person after the warm shower. When he stepped into the dark bedroom, he saw something sitting on his side of the bed. When he moved closer, he quickly recognized that it was the little pair of booties that Lucy had used to prank him when he first made Seargent, then again much more recently when he moved to Metro. Tim cocked his head to the side in confusion. What on earth are those doing out again?
Under the booties was an envelope, and when he opened it, he saw a note that read ‘New boot coming October 2023’ in Lucy’s beautiful handwriting. He was still kind of confused till he flipped the note over and felt his world stop.
Lucy had sneaked into the doorway of the bedroom when she heard Tim come out of the bathroom, and when she walked in, she saw Tim open the note and cock his head to the side in the most adorable way, and then after reading the note, she saw him turn it over still confused. But she quickly got to see the moment it clicked in his head. He looked up and saw her in the doorway.
“Are you serious?” Tim asked with an excited look on his face.
“ Yup... I just found out today. That’s why I wasn't in the E.R. when you got back from your CT. I’m 16 weeks along.” Lucy confirmed with a smile.
Tim wasted no time closing the space between them and wrapping her in his arms and holding her tight. His heart felt so full it hurt. This was his dream, and for a while, he thought that a dream was all it was ever going to be, but now, holding the sonogram in his hand with his arms around Lucy, he realized that it wasn’t a dream anymore. Lucy was going to make him a dad. He didn't think it was possible to love this woman anymore than he already did, but in this moment, he felt as though he had fallen in love with her all over again.
Seeing the look of pure joy on Tim’s face washed away any worry she might have still had. Tim was going to be the best dad in the world, and she couldn't wait to see it.
