Astrid felt like sobbing as she held onto her lover, Hiccup Haddock. Astrid was leaning on a stone wall behind her with Hiccup in her lap. They had just crashed landed on a random island after a mission that went south fairly quickly. Hiccup took the worst of the injuries from the hunters, but Astrid somehow managed to earn some scratches to the face. He was bleeding from his head and had a deep gash on his arm causing him to lose a lot of blood. Toothless was laying with his head in hiccups lap, purring and cooing to try and wake up his rider, though his efforts were in vain. Stormfly was keeping guard at the front of the cave that they now resided in.
“Agh.” Astrid heard hiccup groaning, in what she assumed to be, his sleep. That was until he started to wiggle out of her grasp.
“Hiccup, hiccup. It’s ok, it’s me, it’s Astrid.” her calming words did nothing to reassure him as he started to fight against her grasp.
“No, no, no. Gotta get Astrid. Gotta gets Toothless.” He continued to mutter. Her heart broke as she listened to him continue to plead with her.
“It’s okay baby, your safe. It's just me you and toothless in this cave. No one can hurt us in here honey, you're okay.”
“Astrid?” he asked, sounding so confused.
“Yeah, it’s me, it’s Astrid.” she was so glad that he was becoming more coherent that she finally allowed some tears escape.
As he looked up at her face, he noticed that she had some scratches on her face. He imdently questioned her “What did you do?”
“What I had to.” her tone sounded so flat that hiccup instantly knew what had happened, “besides it’s only fun-”
“If you get a scar outta it, I know.”
“Are you going to be okay?” Astrid knew he would be, but really just wanted to fill the silence between them.
“’course I am. You’re here. You're amazing.” she always found it adorable when he was sleepy as he had a lose tongue, often giving her compliments and telling her everything that went on in his big brain.
“and really pretty.” he added on as of an afterthought.
“Okay, I think that’s the concession taking.”
“Nah. It just makes to easier to say it.”
that was when Astrid knew that Hiccup was defiantly the love of her life. I mean sure, when she was younger, she swore that she was never ever going to get a boyfriend, but, you know, plans change. And hers change a lot. All because of one dragon boy.
Her dragon boy.
With that thought, she said “Are you up for trying to fly back home?”
When she received no response, she looked down to see Hiccup asleep in her arms.
“I guess we can wait a bit longer.” she stated to absolutely no one as she smiled fondly as the love of her life snored in her arms.
