started off as a small story, now we are 23 chapters in and there is e a small army following this story lmao

Chapter Text

This was the first time Wednesday had to deal with… stirrings. (She refuses to acknowledge them as feelings). These strange stirrings that swim around her chest and fill her brain with nonsensical noise. Her parents had always talked to her and her brother about these things, the way an Addams loves is wholehearted, it overtakes their mind, soul, and body. But Wednesday wasn’t “in love” right? There was no way she was. From a young age, she had told herself that she would never fall into a mushy pile of affection and yearning like her parents, but here she is. Sitting at her desk staring blankly at her untouched typewriter for the third night in a row. Her mind was constantly occupied with thoughts of her roommate, distracting her, day in and day out. After the shitshow that was last semester, she had grown closer to Enid, trauma bonding over the whole ordeal. As much as she hated to admit it she has been enjoying time with Enid more and more, almost looking forward to her time with the blonde. Sometimes it felt like an invisible rope was constantly pulling her toward her and it was driving Wednesday into madness. Once the semester had ended and everyone returned home for break she felt like she was missing something, a strange loneliness filled her and not the kind she had grown to love.

*~--~*

Enid hadn’t been sleeping well. Ever since her first wolf-out she had felt a restlessness deep in her bones, almost like her entire body was vibrating at an uncomfortable frequency, making her muscles ache and her skin crawl. She was beginning to notice changes not only within herself but within her place at Nevermore. No longer was she pushed to the side or ignored, but now people actually look to her for answers and decisions, it was a pleasant change. Little did she know that Wednesday was noticing the changes too. She first noticed at the beginning of the new semester…

“Their” group of friends had been standing in the courtyard, meeting up as a group for the first time since returning to Nevermore. They were talking and joking loudly when Wednesday silently stalked over to join them, stepping beside Enid who hadn’t noticed her presence yet. Now, of course, she would never be willing to join in the socialization for fun, she simply had to inform Enid of her arrival.

“I don’t understand how you can be so dull about everything” Bianca rolls her eyes as Ajax adjusts his beanie

“It was a difficult question!” he stumbles out, embarrassed about whatever it is they’re talking about.

“It really wasn’t. Everyone got it but you.” Yoko teases, earning chuckles from the group.

Wednesday looks at the boy, a red flush invading his cheeks, clearly embarrassed about being the odd man out. She smiles, internally of course, basking in the insecurities of others, especially Ajax, has always brought her a sadistic joy like no other. The group continues to laugh and relentlessly poke fun at the poor boy until,

“Guys, take it easy on Ajax, we all learn at different paces, don’t be mean.” Enid speaks up, the usual bubbly tone still present but underneath is something new, a new commanding confidence that the others don't seem to notice. Wednesday's eyes widen as she looks up at the girl, looking to the rest of the group, who seemingly complies without backlash or without noticing at all, instead switching to another topic.   Interesting .   Normally the group is not easily swayed from their “roasting sessions”. She sneaks a glance over to Ajax who is looking gratefully at Enid and her stomach churns. Normally interactions between Enid and Ajax would make Wednesday feel ill, but when the previous semester ended Enid had made it perfectly clear that she was no longer interested in the boy romantically, and they agreed to stay friends. But this interaction made her stomach turn in a different way, looking up at Enid, who somehow flawlessly changed the conversation without fuss or fighting, she seems to have changed. She looks more confident, smiling happily at the group, but now the hidden insecurities are gone, and easily inputting herself into the conversation and... did she get taller?

Wednesday takes another step forward to get a better look and that's when Enid finally spots her.

“Willa!” she turns, absolutely beaming at her. Yep, definitely taller somehow. Enid instinctively reaches for her, grabbing her and pulling her into a tight hug. Wednesday stiffens as she's quite literally thrown against Enids body, her face heats up, but surprisingly not out of anger. Every place where Enid’s body meets hers it feels like there's a warm, electric current running between them and while it surprises Wednesday, for some reason she doesn’t want to pull back right away. She fits perfectly into Enid's arms, feeling the blonde’s chin rest on top of her head as she holds her. Taking a breath to try and pull herself together from whatever it is she’s feeling, she notices another change. Enid used to smell like this awful cotton candy perfume that she wore. Wednesday actually hated it. It would overpower their dorm and leave it smelling like a unicorn fart for hours. But now breathing in, Wednesday can’t help but notice, long gone is the chemical-ly smelling perfume, instead replaced by something completely different. It’s still sweet, like Enid, but has undertones of something that Wednesday couldn’t describe, something down to earth that naturally pulls her in, and she can feel herself almost leaning into the touch.

Nope .

Wednesday steels and forces her eyes open

“Enid. Let me go before I hurt you.” Not having the heart to come up with a more extravagant threat Enid releases her, slowly this time, not jumping back like she normally would after an invasion of space.

“Sorry, Willa!” She says chuckling nervously, eyes darting to the floor in her old nervous way, “I just missed you is all” she says bashfully, looking up at Wednesday through her lashes, she drops her hand from Wednesday's shoulder. The warm fuzzy feeling fades just as quickly as it had come and Wednesday’s chest tightens, her eyes widen as she can actually feel her heart beating in her chest when the current leaves her. It leaves her feeling almost vulnerable, like being left in a storm with no shelter to run to. The group members each give their greetings, obviously not paying close attention to the interaction to see the sudden tension between the two girls. Wednesday nods to the group silently,

“I’m going back to the dorm, I wanted to inform you that I was here so that you aren’t startled when you go into our room” Wednesday tries to keep her voice steady and calm, but looking Enid in the eyes is giving her that weird stirring feeling again. “I have to go” she turns on her heel and briskly walks away, taking deep breaths as she flees to her room.
