“Who did this to you, boss?” Fang asks gently. He finishes the new row of stitches, while Ivan guards the door to Izzy’s tiny cabin. Guards the door, on thier own ship, the place where they should all feel the safest. None of them have felt safe in what feels like ages.
Izzy just shakes his head. And that itself is an answer, isn’t it. There’s exactly one person who he’d be this loyal to. Anyone else would have been stabbed long ago, as the new scars accumulate. Anyone else he’d tell Fang and Ivan about, but their boss won’t betray their “captain”, or the shell of Edward that’s left.
"Leave it, Fang. I'm fine." He is very clearly not fine. None of them are, but Izzy has taken the brunt of it, won't even complain because of his sense of duty. Edward doesn't deserve this devotion, Fang thinks bitterly, doesn't deserve Izzy.

Izzy closes his eyes, breathing through the pain. He deserves this, he knows. Deserves Edward’s hatred, should be proud to accept his captain’s punishment.
Fang and Ivan are helpless to do anything but watch.
