Work Text:
Light shone into the room where Adora sat, the glow of Etheria's sun filtered through the veil covering Adora's face. It was truly a beautiful day, a day that for Adora had been long in the waiting. Today was the day she and Catra were to be finally married.
It had to have happened eventually. For the past couple of years, Adora and Catra had fallen so deeply in love. For Adora, she'd wanted to marry Catra from the moment they'd gotten together, ever since she had seen that beautiful vision of them together in the future.
Though of course, she knew Catra still had a lot to work through and as such, wanted to wait until she was ready. And a few months ago... she was, as she got down on one knee and asked Adora to marry her. Though Adora didn't exactly say yes, the fact she tackled Catra to the floor and kissed her right after Catra popped the question was more than enough.
Now the day was finally here and Adora was sitting in her dressing room, waiting patiently for the ceremony to start. She looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding dress. It was a gorgeous poofy white ballgown with gold and cream highlights with long gloves that covered her arms. The bodice of the dress hugged her chest snugly and her shoulders were left bare. On Adora's head, trailed behind her a gorgeous silky, sparkling veil, with a second veil draped over her face.
It had been a difficult choice for Adora if she should wear her hair up or down but eventually, Adora decided to wear her hair up instead. Though she did wear a tiara now, inspired by the one she saw in her vision. She clutched her bouquet tightly, anticipation rising inside of her.
This is what she always wanted, she knew that now. Yes, she was She-Ra and gladly enjoyed her role as Etheria's hero, but this day, she wanted Catra as hers forever, for them to never part from that day forward for as long as they lived. She sighed softly, remembering Mara's words.
"You deserve this day," Mara's voice echoed in her mind. "I'm so proud of you, Adora."
Adora opened her eyes, for a moment seeing Mara standing before her, in her She-Ra form, glowing golden and radiant. Mara knelt down, caressing Adora's cheek softly with her hand. Adora melted into the touch and then, Mara was gone. Adora shook her head, thinking she must have been daydreaming.
Just then, Adora heard a loud knocking on her door, the blonde looking around in surprise. "It's uhhhh... It's open!"
The door handle creaked open and in walked Glimmer, wearing a poofy blue and purple dress with gloves. She smiled at Adora, grinning delightfully. "Well if it isn't the blushing bride!" She took Adora's hands and smiled at her, helping Adora to her feet. "You look great Adora."
"Thank you," Adora replied, blushing a little. "To be honest... I never thought I'd ever wear something like this."
"Are you excited?"
"Uh yes, I'm going to marry the love of my life," Adora responded, eyes wide with glee. "Speaking of Catra, have you seen her?"
"Oh yeah, I was helping her get ready earlier," Glimmer replied, smirking. "She was so nervous. I don't think the thought of you getting married has actually fully set in with her."
"She's not got wedding jitters has she?"
"No of course not," Glimmer insisted. "She was very insistent that she was going to marry you no matter what happens today. Speaking of which, Catra already placed all of Brightmoon's guards on high alert."
"Why?"
"In case someone decides to crash your wedding and ruin your big day," Glimmer remarked.
"You really think with how peaceful things are that would happen?" Adora wondered, chuckling a little.
"Hey, it was Catra's idea," Glimmer giggled. "Personally, I have a good feeling that everything's going to go fine. Because I know She-Ra won't let anything ruin her big day."
"No, she won't," Adora reassured Glimmer.
The Queen then outstretched her hand. "Everyone is ready and waiting in the hall now so... may I do you the honour of walking you down the aisle, Adora?"
"You may, your majesty," Adora replied courteously, taking Glimmer's hand and holding it softly.
The two of them made their way to the great hall of the castle, where the wedding ceremony was to be held. Adora felt Glimmer hold her arm tightly as she heard the organ pipe into life in the next room, the two of them standing behind two giant golden doors.
And then, as the bridal chorus began, those doors swung open and Adora and Glimmer began to walk down the aisle, the crowd around them cheering for joy as Adora made her way towards the altar. Adora had hoped she wasn't going to cry until at least after she and Catra shared their first kiss, but it was too late, the tears were already streaming down her cheeks.
Good thing a veil was hiding her face.
She looked ahead, seeing Catra waiting for her at the altar. Catra... looked extremely handsome, wearing a stunning white and cream wedding tuxedo, her long mane of hair slicked back as much as she could. She saw Catra's eyes widen at the sight of her, which made her giggle.
Part of the reason why Adora chose this dress was because she knew Catra would honestly be speechless at the sight of her in it.
As Adora finally arrived at the altar, Glimmer let go of her arm and Adora walked up to Catra, smiling lovingly through the gauzy veil. Catra nervously stepped forward, taking Adora's gloved hands into her own. She was shivering a little. Oh god, she was nervous.
But the moment Catra held Adora's hands, she seemed to relax a little, now that her wife-to-be was at her side.
"H-Hey Adora," she whispered. "You look... hell, I can't find the words."
"Well, I certainly can," Adora whispered back. "You look very handsome, my dashing prince."
Catra turned bright red and looked away shyly. "Just... Just let us get through this already. I'm already a nervous wreck under this suit."
Adora just smugly grinned under the veil. "I dunno... I love the sight of you blushing, Kitty."
Catra just turned even redder at that. Glimmer then cleared her throat, getting the two women's attention. "Sorry to interrupt, but I do have a wedding to perform here."
"Right, right, sorry go ahead, Glimmer," Adora apologised, blushing in embarrassment.
Glimmer looked at her two friends and smiled fondly at them. She too, like everyone else in the room, had been waiting for this day for a very long time. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the joining in matrimony of Adora and Catra. If anyone has any reason why these two should not be wed, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."
Adora and Catra looked over their shoulders, seeing their friends all lining the front row of the wedding hall. No one was going to speak against this beautiful union, at least not while Catra had anything to say about it.
"Very good. Now, Adora, do you take Catra to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for richer, for poor, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Adora answered radiantly and honestly.
Catra flushed, realising it was now her turn.
"And do you Catra," Glimmer then spoke, both her and Adora smirking at the flustered catgirl before them. "Take Adora to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for richer for poor, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
Gulping, Catra looked at Adora and shyly smiled. "I... I do."
Bow, who was acting as Catra's best man, handed Adora and Catra the rings. Catra took one ring and slid it onto Adora's gloved finger, while Adora, in turn, slid one onto Catra's. She grinned at Catra smugly, knowing they were joined as one now... and now came for the best part.
"By the power vested in me as Queen of Brightmoon," Glimmer declared. "I now pronounce you, Adora and Catra, to be wife and wife. You may now kiss the bride!"
Catra gasped adorably and looked at Adora, who knelt down just a little bit so Catra could unveil her. Catra walked over to Adora, reaching her hands forward. She looked to one side, seeing an encouraging Scorpia and Double Trouble in the audience egging her on.
Gently, Catra unveiled Adora, lifting the veil back to reveal her beautiful face to the whole world. Her heart beat softly in her chest, looking at the visage of Adora, her wife, finally hers forever as she'd always wanted. Gently, Catra cupped Adora's cheeks, kissing her softly.
Her eyes shut, melting into the kiss, tuning out the whole world around her... but then Adora giggled mischievously into the kiss. Suddenly, Adora wrapped her muscular arms around Catra and kissed her deeply. Catra's eyes widened for a moment as Adora deepened the kiss, making an adorable little yelp.
Adora kissed Catra fiercely in front of everyone, gloved hands wrapping around Catra tightly and holding her firm as she kissed her wife. She felt Catra surrender to the kiss completely, as she then dipped her down, listening to Catra moaning sweetly as she kissed her.
Her wife, hers, always and forever.
Adora eventually pulled out of the kiss, pulling Catra back to her feet. She was blushing so much, but she definitely wasn't nervous anymore. As they walked back down the aisle together, arm in arm, wife and wife, Catra rested her head on Adora's shoulder a little.
"God this was so worth it," Catra whispered. "I love you so much."
"And I love you," Adora whispered back, before kissing Catra again. "My wife."
And right there and then, Catra grabbed Adora and kissed her hard in front of the audience, dipping her slightly. The two kissed one another passionately, interlocking fingers, knowing that nothing would tear them asunder now, for their hearts were now joined as one.
