Chapter 1: Day 1: Domestic

Chapter Text

This morning, Loid stumbled out of his room. The rain outside made the atmosphere humid and his body was screaming at him. He survived bombs and gunshots but he couldn’t take humidity.

He arrived in the kitchen and sat down. He started to make some relaxing tea to try and appease with hurting muscles. He could also take some pain killers.

His leg was like a dead weight behind him. He could barely stand on it. He glared at it for letting him down like that.

His tea in hand, he sat down with a groan. He started to do some basic massage to the painful muscles, trying to ease them.

He pulled up his pants’ leg for better access.

He heard some footsteps, and guessed it was Yor who finished to wash herself. He didn’t paid her much attention, continuing his massage.

He heard a gasp behind him.

Loud turned to look at her, her hands were on her mouth and her eyes wide.

He smiled, trying to look not surprised by her attidude.

“Good morning Yor, have you slept well?”

She was looking at him as if he had two heads.

“Loid, your leg!”

He turned to look at it, trying to guess why Yor was so horrified. He didn’t have any new injuries, and he didn’t see any reasons why- Oh.

His pants’ leg was rolled up, and his prosthesis was clear in view.

He sighed, he knew it was going to happen one day or the other. Living with another person means that this fact was going to come out eventually.

He took a relaxed stance, better not alarm her.

“Oh, yes. I have a prosthesis.”

She looked surprised, and a little bit alarmed, even if she could clearly see it.

“A prothesis?”

He looked at it, he couldn’t tell her that he got it during a torture session by some criminals that discovered his true identity and wanted to know how much information he had on them.

“Yes, did I told you I was a soldier before becoming a doctor?”

She shaked her head, now looking more curious than surprised.

“Well, during a bombing, I was at the wrong place at a the wrong time, and a piece of building had fell on me. I got stuck beneath it for some time, and the camp doctor didn’t manage to save my leg.”

He made sure to look as somber as he could, which was rather easy in this scenario.

“Oh Loid, I had no idea.”

She sat down next to him, with a caring and sympathetic look on her face.

“I’m sorry it happened.”

Loid shook his head.

“No need to be sorry, it already happened and at least I’m still alive.”

She looked thoughtful, with a regretful look. She then looked at him, realizing something.

“Wait, is the weather making it painful?”

Loid nodded.

“It happens during certain weathers, it’s not… pleasant to say the least.”

Yor nodded slowly, thinking about something.

“Do you want a massage? I worked as a massager for some times.”

He looked at her, startled by the ask.

“There’s not need, it will go away eventually.”

“Please Loid, I want to help.”

She was determined. He thought for a second. Maybe she wanted to do that to detect his weakness and know how to disarm him.

He shook off these thoughts. It was an innocent question, and she just wanted to help.

Plus, a real massage would be better than what he was trying to do.

“Ok, if you’re sure.”

Yor seemed please. She instructed him to lay on his back on the couch.

She rolled his pant’s leg further up, frowning when she saw the scars above his stump. She put his hands near the joint, and started the massage.

Loid had to admit that she was good at it, really good.

As she was working her magic, he could feel his eyelids drop, and the pain easing. She was amazing at it, her fingers were lifting the ache.

He was starting to slowly fall asleep. He should stay alert. The first lesson he had as a spy is to never fall asleep in front of another person, no matter what.

He felt warm. While her fingers traced his knee, he was feeling more and more drowsy.

He slowly let the darkness take him. Openly going into its warm and welcoming arms. His last thought was how he was at home.

When Loid woke up, he was startled by the brightness around him.

As he opened his eyes, he realized that he was laying on the couch. And more importantly, the pain in his leg was completely gone.

He was confused for a second before remembering the massage that Yor offered him. He must have fallen asleep during it.

His ears became red, he had let himself sleep in front of another person. It was a rookie mistake!

He was startled when a cup was put on the table in front of him.

He looked up to see Yor looking at him with warm eyes. His blushing intensified for some reason.

“I made some tea since yours had gone cold.”

She smiled a bit awkwardly and went to sit on the armchair.

Loid straightened and sat down. He took his cup, relishing in the warmth of it.

“Thank you very much Yor.”

He meant it. It was an amazing feeling to be able to actually move his leg without feeling like it wanted to kill him.

She blushed, looking a bit embarrased and a lot relived.

“It’s nothing! I use to do massages to Yuri when he was younger. He has migraines when it’s humid.”

A small smile formed on his face.

“Still, it’s really nice of you.”

Yor was blushing furiously, she was almost cute like that. She looked at the clock.

“Oh dear, I’m going to wake up Anya before she’s late.”

Loid watched her retreat. He felt his heart tug with a strange feeling. He was feeling warm and light. Maybe even a little dizzy.

He wondered why he felt like that.

He smiled as Anya and Yor arrived in the living room.

And, for once, his smile was genuine.

It felt like home.
