As the summer sun was about to set, the hues of fading yellow and muted orange cascading over the car, Katsuki looked over to Eijiro. His best friend was singing along to some random pop song on the radio, off-key and off time, but shit did that make him feel so in love.
The remnants of the rain dripped off the glass, the sun finally peeking out at its last moments. They had just finished what Katsuki hoped was a date and were now driving back home. Home was a little away, considering it was summer and they had more downtime. Eijiro had somehow convinced him to take a break from studying for his summer classes and drove them out of town for the afternoon.
Eijiro always came over when he was studying, since he had a pretty free schedule and was always bored. He’d find ways to entertain himself, like laying on his legs and playing a game on his switch. Or talking to Kaminari on the phone with headphones and talking about how nerdy Katsuki was with a small smile. Sometimes, when they were both just quiet in each other’s company, Eijiro would silently lay across his lap, close his eyes, and drift off. It was not all that different from when they were at the dorms, but this time Eijiro came all the way to his house in his newly gifted car from his moms.
Of course, his mom would question why Eijiro would just come here to watch him study, how the hell Katsuki put up with all the noise he made when he was always yelling at his parents to be quiet. But all those questions ended in the middle of dinner that Katsuki had prepared for the both of them. His parents weren’t home and they had to fend for themselves, so Katsuki just took whatever they had in their kitchen and made it. Simple really, some packaged noodles with a piece of ham and an egg in there just to make it more filling.
But, Eijiro had eaten it like it was the best meal in the world and when his best friend pulled him in for a big hug as a thank you, his parents walked in. He was sure his mother didn’t miss the big bright blush on his face, the way he was looking at Eijiro with those lovestruck eyes, and the small smile that always snuck out around him.
Before Eijiro could go home for the night, he had given him one last hug.
“Let's have fun tomorrow! Drive out of town or something.”
“You just want an excuse to use your car.” He teased, hugging Eijiro even tighter and feeling like he never wanted to let go.
“Nah, I wanna go out with you. You study way too much, Kats.”
Katsuki shook his head, “Fine. But you better make it worth it, dummy.”
“I will! I promise! You’ll have so much fun, you’ll never want to study again.” Eijiro pulled away, making Katsuki’s heart ache.
“Well, I gotta go before my moms freak. I’ll see you tomorrow Katsuki!” And then Eijiro made his heart jump to his throat, placing the smallest of kisses on his nose before he walked out the door.
He stayed there, frozen, his hand rising to touch his nose without thinking.
Katsuki heard his mom snort behind him, “You owe me a week of dinners, Masaru!”
He let himself fall from the memory, looking back at Eijiro as he rolled the windows down, the light spatter of the rain falling off the window and dripping on his shorts.
“Dumbass. It's still drizzling.”
“No it's not. The sun's out.”
Katsuki laughed, moving to nudge Eijiro on the cheek with his knuckle.
Eijiro’s face colored with pink, mimicking the creamy rose sky.
He watched Eijiro rather than the road, looking at the way the dwindling hues cut through crimson. The sparkle of his focused gaze as he drove down the open road. The big, goofy Eijiro smile that his face held while he sang loud and proud. His sun-kissed skin glowing. All Katsuki wanted to do was reach over and kiss that upturned cheek, to grab his hand that was resting between them and intertwine their fingers.
He was so entranced by him, that he didn’t even notice them coming to a stop in the middle of a parking lot.
“Why are you stopping?”
Eijiro didn't answer, instead, he put his car in park and turned the music up on the radio. His best friend tossed him a grin, getting out of the car without a word. He watched as he walked to his side of the car, and his confusion grew even further as he opened his door.
“Come on, Kats! I wanna dance.”
“Huh?” Before he even had a chance to register Eijiro’s actions, he was pulled out.
The music swirled around them, the parking lot glowing in the dim light as Eijiro held him close.
Katsuki laughed, “What the fuck are you doing?”
“Dancing with you!”
He could feel his heart beating as Eijiro pressed his chest to his, his arms wrapping around his waist. With trembling arms, Katsuki did the same, his smile unable to hide.
Eijiro sighed, pressing his chin to his shoulder, swaying them back and forth and turning them slowly.
“You’re so dumb, you know that?” Katsuki said into his hair.
“Yeah, but you like me anyway.” Eijiro teased, squeezing him even tighter.
Katsuki snorted, looking over at Eijiro as he rocked them, thinking that he had never looked so beautiful, there in all the orange, reds, and pinks, the hint of stars on his skin.
He didn’t know how long they stayed like that. If the song playing behind them was even slow. But Katsuki felt like he could stand there in the pouring rain, the blazing sun, the chilling snow, and it wouldn’t even matter. Not when he had Eijiro in his arms, so close to kiss.
And then he kissed him, on his cheek at least, before he pulled them both apart.
“Come on, it's getting late.”
Eijiro pouted, but walked him to the passenger side with their hands connected even though they were inches away from the car.
“Alright, let’s get going.” He smiled as he sat, turning down the music just a little.
Before he started driving, Eijiro looked at him, eyes so soft and pretty in the low evening light.
He reached over to grab his hand again, blinking at him slowly before he reached over to kiss his cheek.
“Thanks for coming out with me, Kats.”
“Whatever. If I didn't you’d be whining that you’re bored.”
“Nah, I’m never bored when I'm with you.”
Eijiro opened the windows then, continuing their drive home.
Once again, Katsuki couldn’t keep his eyes off him. His loose hair blowing in the wind, swirling around and looking like a small flame in the darkening night.
Eijiro clicked his teeth as they reached a stoplight, fishing through his pockets without taking his eyes off the road. He sighed as he presumably didn’t find what he was looking for.
He tucked a piece of hair behind his ear, but the wind pushed it back up and he groaned.
And right there, Katsuki was speechless as Eijiro stretched to run his fingers through his hair, strong sturdy fingers combing through the softest locks.
“I should leave hair ties in here.” He complained, doing the heart-stopping action again as the light turned green. He wanted to tell Eijiro the logical thing--to maybe close the windows. But, he just smiled, selfishly watching Eijiro’s hair blow in the wind.
He didn’t know how many times Eijiro would make him want to kiss him tonight.
They were getting close to Katsuki’s house and already he felt his heart drop with the thought of Eijiro going home for the night. He wished he could stay here forever, right next to Eijiro in his car that still had that new smell. That the road would go on forever and they could just escape to the next town and the next for the rest of the summer.
Eijiro stopped in front of his house, biting his lip as Katsuki made no move to get out. And like earlier, Eijiro stepped out of the car before him. Katsuki took his hand without a word, letting himself be led to his front door.
“I kinda don’t wanna go home.” Eijiro admitted as they stood there, looking up at the stars spilling across the sky with a wistful glance.
“I don’t want you to leave either.” He confessed.
Eijiro grabbed his free hand, their fingers coming together as he stepped even closer.
“Maybe I can ask my moms if I can stay over tomorrow.”
“Yeah…” Katsuki said, too enamored by the feeling of Eijiro so close to say anything more coherent. He watched their hands as they danced between them, Eijiro rocking on his feet, the action making them move together.
“Hey, Kats?”
“Hmm?”
Katsuki looked up at him then, those captivating eyes pulling him right in and Katsuki was sure he never wanted to get out of the maze that was Eijiro’s heart, his kindness, his beauty.
With shaking hands, Eijiro pulled him forward, blinking up at him as he licked his lips. Eijiro inched closer, and already Katsuki could feel his heart beating that much faster, his hands sweating, his skin tingling, his lips trembling.
And it was magic, Eijiro’s softly chapped lips against his, the sweetness of him making their first kiss heavenly. He could feel his whole body heating as his hands let go of Eijiro’s. He let his arms wrap around his back, pulling him even closer as he melted into their kiss. He didn’t know if first kisses were supposed to feel this perfect, this wonderful. He hoped he’d never have a first kiss in his life again.
Eijiro pulled away, his eyes sparkling as he kissed him again and again.
“I’ll call you when I get home?”
Katsuki laughed, because of course he’d ask that after their first kiss. But, they have plenty of time to be romantic and all that sappy shit.
“Yeah. Drive safe, alright?”
“Okay.” Eijiro kissed him again before pulling him into a hug.
Like he couldn’t get enough, Eijiro placed one last kiss on his cheek before he walked back to his car. He waved goodbye with a smile, driving back home and taking his heart with him.
Eijiro called him as soon as he got back, Katsuki’s smile still not gone as he answered.
“Hey handsome!”
Katsuki blushed, “Hey Eij.”
“So, you know how we kissed and all?”
“Yup.”
“So yeah! I was thinking, since we are having our first official hang out as boyfriends tomorrow, we should--” Katsuki shook his head as Eijiro listed all the things he wanted to do, telling him that his moms said yes to a sleepover.
Katsuki had never been happier, sitting there in his room, Eijiro’s voice in his ear, and the promise of a summer full of firsts and kisses and Eijiro.
