Chapter Text
“Danny, this is serious. You really need to see someone”, biting her lip, “especially after… this”, stepping a little closer, “I saw you, standing numb out in the rain and waving at the neighbours to convince them you were not in pain”, glancing at him shaking his head, “Danny, brother, for my sake at least? My peace of mind?”.
And that does it. She knows it does. He knows it does.
He sighs, nodding faintly. She throws him a small smile, “good… thanks”, and heads to his door, only glancing back at him once before leaving.
He shakes his head at the door as it clicks closed. It was a waste. He knew it. She knew it. Why does she still bother? Oh if only she wouldn’t. It’s not good for her. But now he’s stuck going all the same. And she’d be proud of getting him to go.
One of many best things you can do is make someone proud, even though they’re crying, he guesses.
The lady crosses her legs, “so. What brings you here?”.
Danny shrugs lightly, smiling, “nothing, just fulfilling a request of another. Better this than to be a worry. Someone might like to say I’ve turned death into a hobby”. And the lady frowns at him.
Guess she knows a lost cause when she sees one.
Good.
She’ll give up then. He’s happily lost his way to a semblance of peace, safety, and wellness. He gave up the bricks that made up his bridge to those things, all to build better stronger bridges for others. Planting starlight in chips, holes, and cracks; making cake fondant perfect.
Even if the only footprints that would ever be made in it would be fishnet-covered paw prints making their way to a bike and it’s rider in the distance; across a river that Danny would never follow over.
She sighs, scribbling in her notebook. “Well, why don’t you tell me about that girl you’ve been dating”.
Danny quirks an eyebrow, “oh? Don’t you know?”.
She shakes her head, “know what?”.
“Why… she’s dead. Kitty fur blown in the wind and a finished cake on a grave”.
And that says it all, doesn’t it.
Assessment : a lost cause
End.
