Summary
When Nie Mingjue returns to Lan Xichen, it is uneventful. There is no fanfare, no announcement of Nie-zongzhu or Chifeng-zun, no proclamations of his titles or his achievements and most importantly, no shrieks of terror heralding his arrival and not a trace of the swirling clouds of resentful energy that accompanied him in his death. He is simply there one day, at the end of the pathway that connects Xichen’s modest courtyard to the dirt road outside, standing with a bag slung over his shoulder as he locks eyes with Lan Xichen in the doorway of his cottage.
