On chapter 44 right now.
This story has followed canon's plot line quite closely up to this point, though it pulled away maybe 10 chapters ago and the distance between the two has only grown since. Being that I have not finished canon nor read it in a decade, much of this fic goes right over my head. All the same, I can recognize okay writing, attention to detail, and a good tale from 10 nautical miles away.Kakashi whump up until a little while ago, which kept my interest even when the story itself couldn't for lack of understanding. Naruto irritated me and still does, but that is universal between shitty fics and amazing fics. This is the latter. Coco because I can taste that it must be, even if I do never come back around to read it. Water, green tea at most, but realistically it is water. Reread when the time comes.
I think, were this still updating, I would've dropped it around the end of the war. The story does feel finished— perhaps would be finished if it was SasuNaru— but it seems that coming together is not the harbinger of the end as in most romance. Since it is complete, I find I can move past the feeling of it being done to see what's left to say. Depending on how it unfolds from here on out, might be a good example of how to resolve a major, overarching conflict without simultaneously writing oneself into a conclusion.
I suppose with this many thoughts and just over half the story behind me, this story will stick with me. Oh, also one of the first times a major character's death actual hurt me. Twice.
Also, a sincerely egregious amount of the word "mewl." With a reasonable amount being once, maybe. Like if ever there is a hint of smut, someone's "mewling". Be warned. Not a crazy amount of typos but a large amount if misused words in a manner that implies english not being the native language. Generally fine to overlook/easy to understand what was meant.
Edit 4/22/2026: ch. 55 I think. I'm losing the desire to continue and also I think no coco after all. I'm bored and took a break to read something more to my taste which, unfortunately, knocked out the last of the interest I had in this. I'm hydrated enough without water and I'm getting nitpicky/irritated with small things. Maybe try again in some years. I waited so long for the whump to be over, but once it was there was nothing left to sustain me. Hm.
