Chapter Text
Rose was coming up to 2 months old. She'd been into the BAU for the first time when she was around 3 weeks old, a morale booster for the team after a particularly difficult series of cases which lead to Emily feeling guilty that her and JJ were still on maternity leave and weren’t able to help. Emily and JJ had both settled into motherhood like naturals, taking each battle in its stride, not that there were many. Rose was possibly the easiest baby going – she slept well and rarely fussed or cried unless there was good reason. Their first Christmas had been the most adorable time for them, spending it with the team and grandmothers and Rose being spoilt rotten, despite only being 5 weeks old.
JJ was lounging around in their apartment when Emily got a phone call, her mother’s name popping up on the screen.
“Hello mother.” Emily greeted over the phone.
“Good morning sweetheart, I have some news I wanted to share with you and Jennifer, is she there?” Elizabeth sounded incredibly happy as she spoke.
“Yeah, she’s here, lemme put you on speaker.” Emily shared, pulling the phone away from her face and pressing the button so that JJ could hear the older woman speak.
“Hi Elizabeth.” JJ piped up from her place on the couch, Emily coming to sit beside her quickly.
“First of all, how’s my grandbaby doing?” Elizabeth started.
“She’s great! We just put her down for a nap, so we’ve got a little bit of time before she wakes up hungry and scowling like Emily.” JJ sniggered.
“Perfect! Well, I wanted to let you guys know what’s happening before you get a phone call.” Elizabeth’s voice was still happy, telling both Emily and JJ that the news must have been really good. “You had a date set this month to start the process of JJ adopting Rose, am I correct?”
“You are. Usually, they want the adopting parent to have lived with the child for at least 6 months, so it was just a preliminary meeting with the judge and our lawyer.” Emily confirmed.
“Yes, I'm familiar with the way they do things. I have an update however, and I am grateful that I am the one that gets to share the news that as of today, JJ is officially Rose’s mother.” Elizabeth beamed.
“What?!” JJ blurted.
“Congratulations JJ.” Elizabeth cheered down the phone.
“Are you being serious mom?” Emily’s expression was shocked, not knowing whether to believe her mother.
“100% Emily, Jennifer is legally Rose’s mother.” Elizabeth chuckled.
“How, I mean, what?!” JJ was still stunned at the words from her mother-in-law.
“I meddled, for good this time.” Elizabeth laughed. “Being an ambassador has it’s perks, I know plenty of people who can get things done. I didn’t want you having the added stress of going to court and having to prove how good of a mother JJ is to my grandbaby.”
“Elizabeth, I- I don’t know what to say.” JJ shook her head as she tried to think of words to form into a sentence.
“You don’t have to say anything dear girl. I know you’ll look after my girls; this was the least I could do.” Elizabeth spoke softly.
“Thank you, mom, I love you.” Emily choked on her words, looking at her wife with teary eyes.
“I love you too, all three of you. I have to go; I've got a meeting with the Italian ambassador in 5 minutes. Let’s get together this week for brunch.” Elizabeth rushed, obviously needing to end the call to get ready for her meeting.
“Thank you, Elizabeth, I really appreciate you doing this for me-” JJ paused, “For us.”
“You’re more than welcome JJ. Love to you all.” Elizabeth affirmed.
“Bye mom.” Emily spoke quickly, ending the call when she heard her mother return the goodbye and just turned to look at her wife, still in complete and utter shock from the conversation.
“She’s mine...” JJ breathed slowly.
“She’s always been yours Jen, only now it’s in writing.” Emily pulled the blonde in for a hug.
“I love you.” JJ whispered into Emily’s chest, instantly feeling calm with the contact from the brunette.
“I love you too sweetie – let's go get ready for lunch with Pen, she won’t be happy if her favourite goddaughter is cranky when we see her.” Emily sniggered.
“When is our daughter ever cranky? She's a little angel.” JJ pulled away with a huge smile on her face, making Emily laugh.
Rose was a little angel; had been since the moment she was born. So, when their first bad night happened, Emily was beside herself and didn’t know how to cope with her upset daughter. Rose was furious, nothing was able to console her or make her happy. Emily tried everything she could’ve thought of, from attempting to feed her, to pulling silly faces and getting all the plush toys out of her crib. But she was having none of it. Emily was almost in tears of frustration when JJ decided to try her hand at cheering up her daughter.
“Come on baby girl.” JJ cooed, rocking Rose gently in her arms as she continued to scream her little lungs out.
“She’s got a clean diaper, a full belly, her clothes aren’t too tight, I don’t know what’s wrong with her!” Emily huffed, throwing her arms in the air as she paced their bedroom.
“Maybe we should try taking her for a walk?” JJ suggested.
“Jen, it’s 3am! There's no way we’re taking her out on the streets in the dark!” Emily scoffed.
“Hey, it was just an idea.” JJ cowered slightly at her wife’s tone. Thankfully, Rose had stopped crying so loudly, instead just fussing and whining in JJ’s arms.
“Sorry, I'm just exhausted tonight. She's been awake most of the afternoon, missed her nap and now she won’t settle.” Emily felt the guilt fill her at the look on JJ’s face. She slipped back into the bed and watched as JJ moved around the room, holding Rose in several positions to try and calm the infant.
“She’s probably overtired, we all get a bit moody when we haven’t had enough rest.” JJ offered, moving Rose so that she was now resting on her front on one of JJ’s arms. In an instant, Rose stopped fussing and her eyes were darting around the dimly lit room.
“Have I gone deaf?” Emily asked, looking at JJ with a bemused expression.
“Oh, my little Rosie likes laying in mommy’s arms like this.” JJ chuckled, rubbing Rose’s back gently with her free hand.
“God, she hates me... her own mother can’t get her to shut up and you can.” Emily’s tone sounded sad at the fact that JJ had managed to soothe her daughter.
“Em-” JJ looked up at her with a worried expression, trying to ignore the pang of hurt from Emily’s comment.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that you weren’t her mom, I just- I gave birth to her, it kinda hurts to see her soothe in your arms and not mine.” Emily worried her bottom lip between her teeth, hands fumbling in her lap and eyes avoiding JJ’s gaze.
“I know what you meant sweetie – between the two of us though, we can always figure out what she needs. We’re doing this together; you won’t ever have to face this alone Em. Rose adores both her mommies.” JJ reassured her wife that it was okay, despite the way the statement made her feel. She always had her girls; they weren’t going anywhere.
“Jayje, she’s smiling!” Emily sat up quickly, as JJ walked towards her, just in time to hear Rose start making cooing noises.
“Are you talking to your mama Rosie?” JJ cooed, earning some more noises from her daughter.
“That’s the first time she’s smiled, and she’s making noises!” Emily effused, tears of frustration turning to happiness.
“That’s because she a happy baby, she just got a little frustrated that’s all!” JJ beamed.
“Maybe we should start giving her more tummy time...” Emily posed, seeing how much her daughter was enjoying laying on her front in JJ’s arms.
“It wouldn’t hurt to try.” JJ smiled at her wife, carefully circling the bed and slipping in her side and under the covers. Rose was still content with lying on her front on the soft sheets, lifting her head up to smile toothlessly at her mothers.
“She’s so freakin’ cute.” JJ smiled at her wife. “Is it too soon to ask for another one?”
“Let’s get this one to a year old first and we’ll talk.” Emily raised an eyebrow before bursting out into a laugh.
“You want babies with me Emmy?” JJ pouted playfully.
“You know I do – you're having the next one though.” Emily winked at JJ as she sniggered, watching the blonde’s eyes go wide.
“I think that’s a wonderful idea. What do you say Rosie, want a little brother or sister?” JJ looked towards her daughter, running a finger over the brunette infant's cheek. Rose started making noises at them again, and they took that as her approval of becoming a big sister.
“I’ll get her book; we can read and hopefully she will fall asleep.” Emily turned to her bedside table and picked up the Harry Potter book they were slowly working their way through. JJ picked her daughter up and let her rest on her chest, noting how the infant's mood had changed so quickly as she wriggled comfortably against her and started to drift off to sleep within two pages of the book. By the time Emily had read the 4 th page, JJ was nodding off and Emily could feel herself getting sleepy too.
“Thank you, Jennifer.” Emily whispered, scooping Rose from JJ’s chest and placing her gently in the bassinet beside their bed.
“I love you baby.” JJ mumbled, snuggling into Emily’s chest and pressing her lips to the bare skin beneath her.
“I love you too.”
After 3 months, JJ had started to do one day a week back at the BAU, mostly to help with the massive amount of admin and paperwork that had begun to pile up in her absence. This left Emily alone with their daughter for a few hours every Wednesday, so she put that day aside to visit her mother and do other normal things so she could start socialising Rose with the outside world.
In the time between Rose’s birth and now, Emily and JJ had grown so much closer, despite not having as much of a sexual aspect to their relationship since their daughter had come into the world. Every time they had attempted to rekindle their sex life, Rose had woken up or something else had gotten in the way of them finally getting what they needed from each other.
As much as Emily wanted to reconnect with JJ, she was slightly conscious about her body after having their daughter. It wasn’t the same, which was to be expected after growing a baby for 9 months and then going through a somewhat traumatic birth. JJ was sweet about it though, she couldn’t care less how tight Emily’s body was, it was an unimportant factor when it came to how much she loved Emily, and that was enough for the brunette.
Emily had grown frustrated by the fact and decided that she was going to have to put a little more effort into making it happen, hoping her mother would be a helpful factor in the plan. Emily also had another secret going for the last few weeks, just awaiting on one special order in the mail before she could execute the big idea and hopefully bring them closer to that special moment they’d both been waiting for.
“Your mommy is going to freak out, you know that don’t you.” Emily cooed to her daughter as she got her changed, Rose responding with a sweet little noise. JJ had text her minutes before letting her know she was on the way home from the office, and Emily immediately jumped into action. When she heard the key in the lock of the apartment door, she grabbed the one extra item she needed, picked up Rose and headed out to greet the blonde.
“Hello beautiful.” Emily beamed.
“I’ve missed you girls so much!” JJ responded, dropping her bag and dragging them both into a huge embrace.
“How was it?” Emily asked.
“Gory, they’ve had some real shitty cases recently.” JJ grimaced at the thought.
“Well, I've got something that might cheer you up.” Emily tilted her head as she took in the blonde.
“What’s that?” JJ queried, giving her a suspicious look.
“Hold your daughter.” Emily moved to hold Rose out for JJ to take, who happily accepted and brought her daughter close to her chest.
“Cuddles with my favourite little girl always cheer me up.” JJ chuckled.
“Yeah? Why don’t you look at her onesie?” Emily suggested, pointing to the small child in her arms. JJ gave her a bemused look, but still did as she was told, holding Rose out with stretched arms to read what was on the clothing.
Mommy, will you marry Mama again?
As JJ turned to look at Emily, she noticed her wife holding out a black wooden box, a rose gold ring sitting perfectly on the creamy white cushion inside, glistening in the light of their apartment. In perfect timing, Rose smiled at her and started cooing.
“Well, whaddya say Jareau?” Emily grinned at the blonde, laughing at her stunned face.
“Yes, a million times yes.” JJ giggled, bringing her daughter close to her again and pressing her lips to dark fluffy hair. She pulled Emily into the same embrace, kissing her on the lips with a renewed passion as she accepted the proposal. Emily had to bite back the squeal of excitement in her throat as she slipped the rose gold engagement ring onto JJ’s finger, nestling perfectly with the silver band that was already adorning it.
“Does this mean a real wedding?” JJ looked up to Emily quizzically.
“What are you doing on the 24 th of June?” Emily asked.
“Nothing, why?” JJ looked at her bemused.
“That’s our wedding day.” Emily grinned.
“You sneaky- how long have you been hiding this?!” JJ gasped, her hand coming up to shove her wife playfully.
“Last month, Penelope and our mothers helped. It's mostly planned, just a few little things that required both our inputs to be done to finish it off.” Emily chuckled.
“And here I thought we were going to argue over all our wedding plans.” JJ laughed.
“Well, we can argue over the cake flavours and what flowers we’re having in our bouquets and center pieces.” Emily shared.
“Roses.” JJ affirmed.
“I should’ve known...” Emily sniggered, her hand coming up to brush through their daughter's hair.
Once Rose was tucked up in her bassinet, sleeping soundly, JJ decided then was the best time to try and woo her wife. The unexpected proposal had brightened her day considerably and she wanted to celebrate.
“She won’t wake up for a bit...” JJ whispered, rolling over and straddling Emily’s lap under the sheets.
“Hmm, wanna make love to me Jennifer?” Emily purred, hands running over JJ’s bare thighs and coming to rest on her waist.
“I really, really do.” JJ arched her back at the contact.
Hands wrapped in the hem of the night shirt JJ was wearing, pulling it over her head to expose her naked body beneath as Emily sucked in a harsh breath. JJ truly was a beautiful woman, tanned skin and toned muscle rippling under Emily’s touch, her hair down and gracefully framing her shoulder and face in effortless fashion.
“God, I love you so much JJ.” Emily mumbled against JJ’s chest, pulling a pert pink nipple between her lips and grazing her teeth over the sensitive bud. JJ only arched her back further into Emily, her hand coming to find purchase in brunette waves and holding her closer as the brunette’s tongue lavished the bite mark she’d left on her breast seconds before.
The air was filled with quiet moans and sighs of pleasure as Emily worked JJ’s body, feather light touches and teasing kisses as she flipped the blonde back onto her back and slinked lower to get what she’d been wanting. The first swipe of her tongue made JJ cry out, and after minutes of attention, JJ was coming apart under her mouth, sucking and lathing her tongue over the pulsing bundle between her lips until she was pushed away.
Emily stayed laying between JJ’s legs, grinning up at the blonde like an idiot until the woman looked down at her and matched that same stupid expression, thrilled that they had finally been able to have some time together. It wasn’t until JJ pulled her wife up and was covered with the brunette’s body that they kissed, deep and full of passion to express her thanks.
Usually, their love making would’ve been rushed, even more so now they had a baby lying beside them in a bassinet, but JJ took her time with Emily. She wanted the brunette to feel loved and comfortable for her first time after Rose was born. Things were different than before, and she took that into great consideration when asking Emily what she wanted.
“All of you, Jen. I need you.” Emily panted breathlessly at the sight of the blonde between her thighs, biting down hard on her tongue when JJ lowered her mouth to cover her core and worked her towards her first orgasm in months. Emily came with a drawn out moan when JJ’s fingers slipped into her, curling to hit the one spot that drove her fucking crazy. After her second climax, and what she thought would be permanent indents in her tongue where she’s had fought to keep herself quiet, Emily was spent. And on perfect timing, Rose had awoken for a feed.
“Thank you for letting me love your mama in peace.” JJ giggled as she looked over her daughter, latched onto the brunette’s breast and blinking slowly.
“Finally.” Emily let out a sigh of relief.
JJ wriggled closer to her wife, cradling her daughters bum with one hand and the other coming up to caress Emily’s cheek. Having that time with each other only strengthened their relationship, and it only got better as time went on. Hotch was right, they were made for each other, fitting in every way possible. They spoke soft and calming words to their daughter as she fell asleep, then falling asleep in each other’s arms moments after.
June 24 th soon approached them, Emily was still off on maternity, and JJ was now back at the BAU doing mostly administrative tasks and helping on cases via Penelope’s office, not wanting to travel and leave her wife and daughter alone for too long. The news that they were having a proper wedding was received well by the team, all booking time off to enjoy the weekend celebrations in true style, seeing as Elizabeth had splurged on an open bar. The one event that had led to the most arguments throughout the whole planning was getting their outfits, more specifically, Emily’s. The brunette had kicked up a storm when she couldn’t find a style she liked best on her, wanting to look the best she could seeing as it was going to be the only time she’d get married.
JJ on the other hand, found her dress within minutes of walking into the bridal boutique, knowing exactly what she wanted from when she was a little girl and talking about it with her sister. The fact that Roslyn wouldn’t be there in person to see her special day was heart breaking, but she knew she was with her in spirit, and that was comforting enough.
Elizabeth and Sandy had taken control of the wedding day morning, getting the brides ready and dolled up and into their outfits before Elizabeth got her granddaughter ready in her own little dress. Rose was playing an important part in their ceremony, the ring bearer and flower girl. She had her own little cushion for the rings to hold onto when she went down the aisle in her uncle Spencer’s arms, and a little pouch of rose petals to spread as they went.
Emily stood in front of the mirror in her mother’s townhouse, taking in how well her outfit fit and her hair and makeup that had been professionally done by an old family friend.
“I love the jumpsuit, what a fabulous idea.” Elizabeth was stood behind her, bouncing her 7-month-old grandbaby on her hip.
“It’s different, but I love it.” Emily twisted and turned as she continued to look back at herself in the mirror. She had struggled to find a dress she liked, and then the bridal boutique staff bought out a white jumpsuit and Emily fell in love instantly. The bodice was tight lace, framing her hourglass figure and her breasts perfectly, travelling down into loose and long pant legs. The waist had a thick white skirt attached, trailing a meter or so behind her and again highlighting her figure.
“Look at my sweet little girl!” Emily turned to see her daughter in her dress, lace top like her mama with spaghetti straps and a tulle netted skirt, a light rose colour to match her name. She had a little headband sat upon her head, a small white rose sat to one side and standing out against her dark head of hair. Rose started giggling and held her arms out for Emily to take her, her mother quickly scooping her up and giggled some more when Emily pressed several kisses to her face.
“Are you and JJ going to have more babies Emily?” Elizabeth asked.
“We are, at least one more.” Emily grinned at her mother.
“Give me as many grandbabies as you want, I will be on babysitting duty for your little army of blonde and brunette children.” Elizabeth chuckled.
“Well, if you’re offering...” Emily laughed loudly, making her daughter start laughing too. “Shall we go see your mommy in her pretty dress?” she asked her daughter, who suddenly got very excited at the mention of her other mother.
JJ was sat on the edge of the bed in their apartment, attempting to put her heels on underneath the huge skirt of her dress and failing miserably. Her mom came tottering in and helped when she heard the frustrated groan from the younger blonde.
“Are you ready Jenny?” Sandy stood up, straightening her delicate floral dress and held out a hand for her daughter.
“I am, I can’t wait to see Em and Rosie.” JJ grinned at her mother. She stood up and walked over to the floor to ceiling mirror on the wall, taking in the sight of her wedding dress and smiling stupidly to herself. She had always wanted something elegant, and rather over the top – and that’s exactly what she got. Her dress was beautiful, the bodice lace with flowers and small silver beading cascading across the material. It hiked her boobs up so they looked perky, but it was still modest enough for a wedding, the small drop sleeves coming to rest in the middle of her biceps, highlighting her chiselled collarbones and sun kissed chest. The skirt was tapered out from her waist, falling gracefully on the floor as it dragged behind her when she walked. It had the same detailing as the bodice, same pretty flowers and silver beads accentuated by the June sunshine peering through the windows of her room.
“You look gorgeous Jennifer.” Sandy breathed as she raked her eyes over her daughter's dress, knowing it was the perfect choice for the young blonde.
“I feel like a princess.” JJ giggled. She was excited, only knowing the basics of where their wedding was taking place and who was attending, supposedly there was a surprise for her. Her mother helped her out of the apartment and into the car, the driver taking them to the venue. When they arrived, Penelope was stood on the front steps of the huge stately home, almost jogging on the spot in excitement to see her best friend. Penelope was JJ’s maid of honour, and Derek had been chosen as Emily’s best man. Elizabeth was taking Emily down the aisle, and Sandy was taking JJ, neither of their father’s alive to be there for the occasion.
“You look fucking beautiful Jennifer Jareau.” Penelope gasped when she set eyes on her best friend.
“You’re looking pretty fucking amazing yourself Penelope!” JJ chuckled. Her best friend had chosen her own gown, a dusty rose chiffon material with a split front, flowing effortlessly over her curves.
“Are you ready to marry your woman?” Penelope asked, a grin plastered on her face.
“We’re already married Pen, but yes. And I'm so excited to see my little girl, I barely slept last night without them cuddling next to me.” JJ pouted, her and Emily had spent the night apart and the still breastfeeding baby went with her birth mother.
“That’s so sweet. Well, we better get a move on. She's already here and waiting for you.” Pen clapped her hands together and then took one of JJ’s hands in her own.
Emily was stood in the hallway before heading down the aisle, her daughter resting on her hip as she talked to Derek.
“Excited?” Derek looked at her quizzically.
“More than you could ever know.” Emily chuckled.
“Okay, JJ has just arrived!” Elizabeth came rushing in, announcing the blonde’s presence.
“Is Hotch ready?” Emily looked to Derek.
“He sure is princess.” Derek grinned.
“Rosie, Uncle Spencer is here!” Emily pointed to the young doctor, who had a huge smile on his face as he approached them with open arms. Rose got excited at the sight of her godfather, starting to babble and squirm in Emily’s hold.
“Hey RJ, wanna go throw some flowers on the floor for your mommies?” Spencer cooed to the little girl as he swept her into his arms. He was met with another excited noise from the little brunette child, a toothless smile on her face.
“You’ve got the rings?” Derek asked Spencer.
“Right here.” Spencer held up the small velvet cushion with the two rose gold wedding bands tied onto it.
“Great, let’s get this show on the road ladies and gents!” Derek clapped his hands together with a stupid smile on his face and a laugh.
Spencer walked down the aisle with Rose in his arms, holding a handful of petals for the little girl to grab and throw on the floor as they went, earning several awes and laughs from the guests sat in their seats. The Swan by Saint-Saens played as they walked, shortly followed by Emily and Elizabeth as they laughed at the small child making the loudest noises possible whilst trying to fight Spencer for the velvet pillow he clutched tightly in his hand.
“She’s definitely Emily Prentiss’ daughter.” Elizabeth whispered with a chuckle, her daughter agreeing wholeheartedly as she watched the commotion between uncle and niece. Derek was already in place at the end of the aisle, waiting for his best friend to join him and was quickly passed the fussing child when Emily came to stand. Spencer furiously fixed himself and plucked the rings off the pillow so he could be returned his goddaughter and made her happy by gifting her the soft item.
“RJ, mommy’s coming.” Spencer whispered into the little girl's ear, who started babbling loudly when JJ appeared at the top of the aisle.
JJ was in complete awe. Their wedding was taking place outside, on the grounds of the home. The area was littered with small flowers of several varieties, as well as trees and strands of ribbon and fairy lights intertwined within its branches. It was like they were standing in a dome of nature, completely surrounded by vibrant summer colours as she walked down the aisle with her mother right by her side, and Penelope following closely behind. When she caught eyes of Emily, in her natural beauty and her white jumpsuit, JJ almost burst out in tears. Their daughter was now settled in her uncle's arms, watching the event unfold in blissful silence. When she stood opposite Emily, she handed her bouquet of roses to Pen and out of nowhere, Hotch came to stand next to the couple as they laced their hands together.
“Hotch?” JJ looked at their unit chief with a bemused look, a small smile covering her lips.
“I’m officiating your wedding.” Hotch smiled.
“Was this the surprise?” JJ glanced at her wife.
“One of them.” Emily winked with a chuckle.
“Ladies and Gentlemen...” Hotch opened the ceremony, working through the speech he had been given by the state to officiate the two women’s wedding. When it came time to share their vows, Rose was fussing just enough to start making Emily sweat a little, so she turned to grab the small child and sat Rose on her hip.
“It seems she wants to be involved too.” Emily rolled her eyes. “Gosh, where do I start Jen.” Emily exhaled heavily and looked at her daughter, and then back to the blonde stood in front of her.
“Y ou have been my best friend, mentor, playmate, confidant, and my greatest challenge. But most importantly, you are the love of my life, and you make me happier than I could ever imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible. So, I am truly blessed to be a part of your life.” Emily smiled softly at her wife, tears stinging her eyes. “Thank you for making my life, and Rose’s so full of love and excitement. We love you so much, and we can’t wait to grow with you and go on so many adventures together as a family.”
“Oh sweetie.” JJ whispered, grabbing Rose’s hand in her own and squeezing it tight. The little girl gave her a big smile and a giggle. When Hotch announced JJ’s turn at saying her vows, she felt her nerves tremble through her and had to breathe.
“You’ve brought so much joy to my life. You gave me your love and your heart. When you spilt coffee all over the counter on your first day at the BAU, I knew then that you were the only woman I would love for the rest of my life. My first and only love, and then you had our daughter. I didn’t think there was anything that I could love the way I do you, until I held our sweet little Rose for the first time.” JJ chuckled, a stray tear rolling down her cheek as she looked to both of her girls. “Thank you for giving me everything I've ever wanted in life Emily; I love you so much.”
Just before Hotch moved on to the exchanging of rings, Rose started making a horrendous noise, drawing both her mother's attention to the small child sat on Emily’s hip as she was trying to stuff the velvet ring pillow in her mouth. Emily burst out laughing at the sight, trying to pry the pillow from Rose’s mouth but was met with an iron grip on the item and a scowl from their daughter. JJ was stood trying to stifle her giggles, and even Hotch was trying not to smile at the baby’s actions.
“Emily, do you take Jennifer to be your wife?” Hotch looked to the brunette.
“I do.” Emily nodded.
“Jennifer, do you take Emily to be your wife?” Hotch then looked to JJ.
“I do.” JJ grinned.
“Emily, take this ring and place it on Jennifer’s finger and repeat after me: Jennifer, I give you this ring as a symbol of the promise I made to you today.” Hotch handed Emily the rose gold band and watched as she slipped it on the blonde’s finger, repeating him word for word.
“Jennifer, take this ring and place it on Emily’s finger.” Hotch handed JJ the matching wedding band and listening as the blonde repeated the same as Emily did, whilst placing the ring on her finger carefully.
“ Having pledged your love and promise to one another today in front of all of your friends and family and by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you wife and wife.” Hotch grinned at the two women, a completely stunning sight for them to see from their unit chief as he wrapped up the ceremony. “You may now kiss the bride.”
Emily started laughing when she leant in to kiss JJ, her daughter screeching beside her in excitement. When she pulled away, Rose had a firm grip on the sleeve of JJ’s dress, both bursting into another fit of laughter as Emily passed the small child to the blonde.
“Congratulations. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is truly my honour to introduce to you: Mrs and Mrs Prentiss-Jareau!” Hotch started the applause, the guests following soon after and Derek wolf whistling from beside them.
The reception was fully underway by the time the speeches started. They had done their first dance to the same song Emily used to sing to Rose when she was growing away in her belly, La Vie En Rose. After they chose her name, the song had popped into Emily mind and every day, JJ would find Emily humming the song to herself whilst she was at work, or cooking in the kitchen, or even in bed as she was trying to drift off to sleep. From then, it became their song.
The clinking of glasses roused everyone’s attentions as Elizabeth and Sandy both stood, taking their turns to rejoice their speeches to the brides. To sum up, they were both eternally grateful to be joined as one big family and thankful to the two brides for bringing their grandchild into the world and in turn bringing their love together, finally! Penelope and Derek stood next, revelling in stories of the two women, most embarrassing, but some sweet moments they had watched the couple share over their time together. Hotch and Rossi both stayed seated but wished them both well in their future together and expressed their excitement to see them grow.
When Spencer stood, he was holding a book. One the team were all too familiar with, his journal. He was constantly scribbling down notes and making little doodles on the pages when they were working through a profile, sat on the jet on the way home or just sat at their desks whilst doing paperwork.
Spencer flicked through the pages of his journal and pressing it into his palm when he settled on one. “On June 26 th last year, JJ made a phone call to her mother on the journey home from one of our cases. A case in which Emily got injured and her pregnancy was unexpectedly announced to us. She was scared Emily would freak out when she told her she was falling in love with her. And here we are, a year later, on their wedding day.” Spencer let out a small chuckle. “I knew there was something between them from Emily’s first week in the BAU and I watched it grow from there. To have the privilege to witness their love for each other develop and finally join them together by the birth of their daughter, it was wonderful. It makes me hopeful that someday I will find the love of my life and be able to grow the same way they have.” Spencer looked between the newlyweds and their daughter sat on Emily’s lap. “I love you guys, congratulations.” he held up his glass of champagne as he toasted the couple, met with warm smiles from both.
“Whilst we’re here, I might as well say a few words.” Emily stood up to finish off the round of speeches. “Jennifer, I found a quote the other week and I think it sums us up completely. Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The treasure of my pregnancy brought our feelings to light, and I have our daughter to thank for that. But I also have you to thank for putting up with me through all our troubles and loving me every single day. Without that, we wouldn’t be here today.”
“I love you.” JJ chuckled, grabbing a hold of her wife's hand and kissing her knuckles.
“Thank you all for coming today, even though technically this is our second wedding.” Emily shared with the guests and earned a laugh. “Enjoy the rest of the night.”
They all certainly did enjoy the rest of their wedding day. After Rose was handed off to her grandmothers, they celebrated with plenty of alcohol and dancing as the night drew in and the sun dropped in the sky. Emily had detached the skirt from her jumpsuit and was getting down on the dancefloor with Derek and Penelope whilst JJ entertained Spencer to the side, watching on as they dragged Hotch into the pile. Before long, Emily had cut herself off, still wary of the fact that she was breastfeeding her daughter and JJ was tipsy. They all piled into their cab’s and were taken home, finding Emily and JJ nestled up in their bed with the daughter wriggling between them.
“I know we’ve technically consummated our marriage already, but do you wanna do it again?” Emily wiggled her eyebrows at the blonde.
“Emily! I doubt doing it in the garden of the venue classes as consummation... but yeah.” JJ giggled.
“Okay, that was possibly the most difficult thing to get away with, thanks to your princess gown.” Emily chortled, JJ hitting her arm playfully in response.
“It was a beautiful gown!” JJ pouted.
“I never said it wasn’t - just not the most practical for super-secret outside sex.” Emily chuckled.
“I’m fairly sure Hotch knew.” JJ raised an eyebrow.
“That man knows everything. That time in the file room...” Emily’s mind travelled back to the memory of JJ making her come whilst she was pushed up against the door.
“And in the conference room.” JJ sniggered.
“We’ve had sex in a lot of public places.” Emily’s eyes went wide at the thought.
“And we shall continue to do so, there’s no one else I’d rather have not so super-secret public sex with.” JJ leant in to kiss Emily on the lips.
“Now that sounds like a great idea Mrs Prentiss-Jareau.” Emily grinned.
Once their daughter was safely tucked in her crib beside the bed, Emily showed JJ just how appreciative she was of the fact that she’d married her again that day. The little family were stronger than ever, and Emily and JJ were looking forward to spending the rest of their days together, raising their daughter, and eventually any future children they would bring into the world. Emily couldn’t believe just how lucky she was, thinking back to over a year ago when she found out she was pregnant, looking over her sweet little girl, and then back to her wife.
Everything was coming up roses.
Fin.
