Miss Jenn was excited to see more people, including her favourite student Carlos(!), would be auditioning. Of course, she’d try her best not to be biased, but it would most likely be hard.
She went through each audition song to be sure they had it all figured out.
“Ricky, said he might not audition, but we know he will… EJ, The Mob Song? Okay, yeah you go Gaston… Ashlyn and Kourtney got something personal and special planned, how exciting! Lily who scares me a little… Something There… okay, okay… Gina, also Something There, great… Precious Seb, Beauty and The Beast, how wonderful! The amazing Carlos… Oh! Be Our Guest, yes Lumière! And the rest, not sure… Okay!” Miss Jenn muttered to herself.
Despite the fact that Carlos was in fact auditioning, she still needed him by her side. He is the choreographer after all!
But first, Belle.
It was hilarious to see Carlos trying to behave well, ‘straight’? But wow the tones to everyone.
Quickly she wrote down some notes on what she thought so far.
Carlos = funny, could be a great Lumière, but maybe there is something he’s not showing.
Seb = WOW, amazing! Sure, has the personality of Chip, but he deserves a greater role with all that talent.
Kourtney = Absolutely amazing. Speechless. Possible Mrs. Potts!
Ricky = Nervous? Probably, yeah. And he seemed a bit out of it. Good tone though
EJ = Gaston. Gaston. Gaston. Gaston.
Ashlyn = Oh how amazing, deserving of a big role without a doubt.
Gina = Hello Babette
Natalie = Funny, yeah love the energy
Big Red = Shy, without a doubt, but he knows the words and he can sing!
Lily = Amazing, but there was an evil glint in her eye and I’m scared.
Okay, onto the individual songs.
What is there to expect? Well, she had an idea for some of them, but at the same time, what if she changed her mind? Besides, this time, she didn’t have anyone read for any particular role actually. Trying to change things up a bit, you know? So what if she did like they did with Sharpay last musical, and genderbent some characters? Now that is an idea!
Miss Jenn was hoping for some greater ideas after this. Maybe she’d ask someone to pair up? Maybe she’d ask them to sing a different song? She’d have to wait and see, that’s what makes auditions so exciting!
Ashlyn, Kourtney and Gina = I really wish we were doing Dreamgirls instead now, oh well, guess that is an option for the next musical
EJ = Yep, yep, found Gaston, without a doubt
Lily = Great voice and basically a Disney princess, but she still scares me She’s out
Natalie = Pretty great! Yeah, but I need her as stage manager...
Seb = Oh wow, what an audition, so much soul and heart, his voice is amazing… and I think Carlos is drooling over his own boyfriend, great
Carlos = I KNEW IT. HE’S BEEN HIDING SO MUCH TALENT. I’M SO PROUD. Maybe I could… No… But I mean… Maybe???
Walter (Had to give Freshman a name)= He put himself out there. Yep, that’s all I got.
Ricky = He’s got a good voice, but the audition in itself… horrible… Okay, and then he was there for his friend, that’s good… but still
Big Red = Perfect LeFou<3
An idea struck her before ending the auditions.
“Now, before we end the auditions. I’d like to try something. Kourtney, I’d like to see you sing Beauty and The Beast. Ashlyn… I’d love to see you try out Be Our Guest… Carlos and Seb.” She stopped for a moment as the two boys’ heads shot up.
“I’d love to see you two duet on Something There,” She said with a little smirk.
“You’ll go on in that order, but you’ll get 15 minutes to prepare!”
Seb and Carlos walked over to the piano in shock.
“Do you know what she’s thinking with this?” Seb asked Carlos quietly.
“No, but it seems like… I could be wrong though… that she wants us to audition for, well, the actual characters Beauty and The Beast…” Carlos responds back, even more in shock after admitting it outloud. Just then Miss Jenn walked over to them.
“Okay, so Carlos, I’d like you to sing Belle’s part, and Seb, you sing The Beasts. Got it?” She kept her happy little smirk on her face as the two boys nodded.
“You got it Miss Jenn!” Carlos told her before she left to check on the others.
After the 15 minutes were up, Kourtney walked back on stage.
“Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise”
Miss Jenn smiled proudly of her student and herself for coming up with this, before writing down
Yeah, we found Mrs. Potts.
Once she was done Miss Jenn called for the next person.
“Ashlyn, you’re next!” Ashlyn walked up on stage with a smile.
“Ma chère Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride
And greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight
And now we invite you to relax
Let us pull up a chair as the dining room proudly presents
Your dinner!
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Put our service to the test
Tie your napkin 'round your neck, cherie
And we'll provide the rest
Soup du jour
Hot hors d'oeuvres
Why, we only live to serve
Try the gray stuff, it's delicious”
She kept up and acted like Lumière which made Miss Jenn happy.
I like a good surprise casting.
And finally, it was time for what she had anticipated the most. The duet.
“Carlos, Seb, come on up!” Miss Jenn said very happily. Excited to see how it would turn out.
Carlos started, giving soft looks over at Seb to calm his nerves.
“There's something sweet
And almost kind
But he was mean and he was coarse and unrefined
But now he's dear, and so unsure
I wonder why I didn't see it there before”
Seb then continued, with a similar soft glance at his boyfriend, and Miss Jenn absolutely loved it.
“She glanced this way
I thought I saw
And when we touched she didn't shudder at my paw
No it can't be, I'll just ignore
But then she's never looked at me that way before”
Their chemistry was like no others, and she was close to tears. She was so captivated by them that she hadn’t noticed Lily muttering something under her breath that would’ve led to one interesting fight.
She wrote something down quickly, before looking back up on the boys.
“Thank you so much. Now, Carlos, I’m gonna need your help for some of the roles! Everyone else, go wait in the hall!”
Everyone left and Miss Jenn hid her already decided casting.
“Okay, Carlos, I’ve already decided on EJ for Gaston, Big Red for LeFou, Gina for Babette, Kourtney for Mrs. Potts and I’ve also decided on Belle, The Beast and Lumière. As for the others…” She stopped herself when she noticed Carlos’ surprised face.
“You’re not gonna tell me who you casted for those three?” He asked, confused.
“Nope, and I’ll go and hang up the list so that you can be up for a surprise too!” She said with a smirk.
“Okay then, so who are you thinking of for Cogsworth?” he asked as he sat down beside her.
“Well, originally I thought Natalie, but one, she said that she’d rather focus on being the stage manager and two, I wanted her to stay as stage manager. It’s a big enough job as it is. So instead I thought, despite his bad audition, Ricky could be Cogsworth.” She stated.
“I’m surprised. Usually I feel like you would just hand him the lead. But yeah, we know he can act and sing, so why not let him be Cogsworth. It’s deserved based on what we’ve seen earlier and what he showed us now.”
Miss Jenn quickly added Ricky on for Cogsworth.
“Now, as for Chip…”
They discussed for a few moments before Miss Jenn finished up the casting list.
“Okay, go out to the others, hold hands with your boyfriend or something,” She teased like she had the last time they held auditions. Except well, it was a different kind of teasing. Carlos did get the boy he had told her he had a massive crush on. And she was so proud of him for that.
Carlos gave her a smile, blushing lightly before heading out to the hall with the others and to stand with his Sebby.
Miss Jenn quickly looked over her casting list with a clever little smirk before she stood up and marched out to the hall. Holding the casting list close to her. Walking past every student before finally pinning the list to the board and walked away. She didn’t turn around until she heard the sounds of gasps
The students piled up to see and the amount of gasps was impressively loud. She turned around slowly, and just as she did that she saw Carlos nearly falling into Seb’s arms.
“I- I-” She heard him say over the loud noises. Miss Jenn laughed, before looking at Seb’s surprised face and him smiling brightly as he pointed out his name to Carlos on the list making Carlos squeal excitedly. They couldn’t believe this!
