Summary
Nikolai had set three rules during our marriage negotiations.
The first was simple: He did not care what Mal and I did behind closed doors, so long as there were no witnesses to any whispered conversations and late-night trysts.
The second had been easy enough to agree to, but one that had sent a shock of grim understanding through me when he’d spelled it out. I was never to bear Mal’s children.
Nikolai would never join me in my bed without agreement and understanding from both of us. But it would happen, and as often as required to produce at least one heir. I’d agreed to this too.
