Chapter Text

Bang!

“I know you’re in there!” A crazed voice echoed throughout their huge estate followed by maniacal laughter sending chills up Momo’s spine, “We’ll get you and your damn brats!

Momo gasped, beads of sweat running down her forehead, her long black hair sticking to the nape of her neck and the sides of her temples. The sounds of their estate’s gates being broken down were getting louder, and stronger. It was no use! The solid gates she created out of tungsten groaned in protest not being able to give them what little protection they had left.

They’re coming!

Momo pushed the fear that bubbled in the back of her throat. Her head was already pounding, the splitting headache just manifesting behind her eyes. The cries of her barely one-year-old daughter, Sora added another painful throb in her head. Frantically, and in sporadic motions, Momo whizzed across from one end of the room to another of the master bedroom she and Shouto shared. Her deep black eyes darted from Sora’s clothes laid out on the huge bed to the door needing to be on her toes just in case the worse was yet to come.

Sora’s cries were now getting more desperate and violent. Thankfully, Momo was able to get all of Sora’s clothes and supplies into the bag before her shaky hands quickly zipped the little bag. She crossed the room in a second gently picking up her daughter cooing as calmly as she could. She smoothed Sora’s jet black hair so identical to her own rocking her back and forth holding her close to her chest. With her daughter now hiccuping, sobs ceasing she began to dress her daughter into warmer clothes knowing the onesie she had on would be too cold for the early winter season.

As she started to button up Sora’s small winter coat, she exhaled out seeing her breath a few inches from Sora’s face. She looked up out of the window confirming that Shouto was in fact successful with creating another layer of protection with an ice-like dome surrounding their home. Momo turned back to Sora reigning a smile as she placed little mittens on her daughter’s tiny hands. Trying to keep the shake out of her voice she whispered, “Alright, my sweet baby. Now you’re all warm—“

Boom! Boom!

Momo gasped immediately pulling Sora into her arms focusing on her hearing. Her trained senses of being a Pro-Hero for almost fifteen years picked up on the footfalls of someone’s footsteps quickly approaching their room.

Five seconds, four seconds, three seconds…

She rushed over to the corner of their room where Sora’s cot was slightly hidden by their dresser. Shushing her daughter hearing her start to cry as soon as she set her down on the cot Momo kissed her cheeks calming her slightly. She placed a blanket over Sora hiding her little body as much as she could.

Thinking on her feet, Momo’s iridescent sparkles started to manifest as two trap lines throwing them into the sidewalls of the room making sure they were lined right in front of Sora just in case the unwanted intruder decided to go for her daughter. She then created staff and a shield, eyes narrowed at the door trying to force even breaths through her lungs.

The door then swung open and instantly a wave of relief washed over Momo. Her stance faltering as she took sight of her husband, Shouto. Visibly relaxed Momo dropped her staff and shield clattering to the ground. Tears of relief were already threatening to escape her eyes as she caught eyes with his, “Shouto!”

“Momo!”

She held up her hand stopping him from entering the room as she deactivated the traps before he moved forward. In each of his arms were their two twin boys, tuffs of white then red hair belonging to Yukiko and Haru. The little boy’s sleepy black eyes blinked open as they stifled a yawn. Right behind Shouto was their eldest son, Mitsue clinging to Shouto’s pants. His bright blue eyes were full of confusion and fear. Her heart broke at the sight of him, the tears already staining his cheeks.

“Momo,” Shouto repeated again, “Are you alright?” His blue and gray eyes scanned her face for any injury satisfied when he found none, “Is Sora all dressed  up?”

Momo nodded cupping his cheek briefly doing the same. He set Yukiko and Haru down on the ground. Momo dropped to her knees opening her arms as the three little boys immediately ran into her embrace. Mitsue in the middle with the twins shoving their bodies on either side of their older brother trying to find comfort in their mother’s hug.

At the same time, Shouto crossed the room, rushing over to Sora taking their daughter out of her cot cooing softly at her taking her in his arms.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

“Mommy! What is going on?” Mitsue whimpered holding onto his brothers’ hands as they clung to him.

“What is that horrible sound? It’s so scary!” Haru cried holding cupping his ears and shutting his eyes.

“Honey, just calm down, alright? Leave everything to your father and I. Just stick close to your brother,” Momo reassured them in a gentle voice. She fixed her sons’ clothes zipping up their coats and tying their capes around their necks. The capes that were now strapped around them were made of a special fiber being resistant to heat, ice, and even ricochet.

As Momo’s dark eyes washed over the fearful faces of her children, to the increasingly loud banging at the entrance gates. Her brilliant mind started to piece things together realizing that the only way for her family to get out of here safely without fighting back would be….

This is the only way.

She pushed back the tears that were threatening to spill as she looked at every one of her sons’ faces. Lingering a bit longer as she looked into their eyes. Mitsue, turquoise eyes like Shouto. Yukiko and Haru, onyx eyes like hers. Then, her eyes traveled to the colors of their hair, black, white, and red.

Mitsue, Yukiko and Haru.

Momo stood up, clenching her fists to her sides as she turned over her shoulder, “There are at least two minutes until the gates give in.”

“I bought us some time with my ice,” Shouto replied, “But judging from the sounds they’ll be able to break through soon. We have to hurry!”

A sudden vibration sounded through their home, and the rumble that traveled through their huge house reached their chest causing the two heroes' eyes to widen in realization, mouths agape. As if they were speaking telepathically Momo went to grab her sons, “Mitsue! Yukiko! Haru!”

“Momo, grab Sora!” Shouto shouted as soon as Momo pushed her sons behind her. They were on their hands and knees crouched beside their bed clinging onto each other. Momo gently took Sora from Shouto’s arms holding her close to her chest as she turned her back to Shouto facing Mitsue, Yukiko, and Haru shielding them as much as she could with her own body.

Bang!

In a split second, a huge explosion sounded from their front door entrance, “Momo, get back!” Shouto yelled creating a quick wall of ice and stopping the ricochet of the explosion before it could get through the room. He wasn’t quick enough to stop the entirety of the explosion, ultimately creating holes in the walls. Shouto grunted, creating an X with his forearms, grounding his cleats into the wooden floors narrowing his eyes determined to protect his family.

He glanced over his shoulder relaxing a bit seeing Momo manage to create some sort of shield adding another layer of protection for herself and their children. Momo shushed Sora who continued to wail in her arm. She walked over to Mitsue who took Sora from his mother trying his best to soothe his baby sister. Momo then outstretched her arm creating a staff ready to defend.

“Mommy, what was that?” Haru cried tears streaming down his cheeks as he desperately looked at his parents for answers.

“Stay behind me, Haru,” Momo ordered him in a gentle voice eyes trained on Shouto and hearing heightened watching as her husband brought upon another wall of ice.

“They will most likely get through this ice wall if they easily broke through my Heaven Piercing Wall. They’re probably running around the estate trying to find us. We have to get going now, Momo,” Shouto ordered peeling back the shields she created taking the twins. He began to ready himself.

“No,” Momo said, her onyx eyes serious, but the tremble of her lip and clenched fists betrayed her determined glare.

“No?” Shouto repeated incredulously head whipping around to look at his wife. With just one look into her eyes, Shouto was already familiar with what she was planning, “Are you crazy? I am not leaving you!”

Momo shook her head, “You have to!” Tears were in her eyes, “You are faster than me which means you’ll create more distance from here and the safe house. I can buy you some time, from what I can hear there are more than three villains here. If I can keep them preoccupied there won’t be any chance of them following you—“

“What you are saying is crazy! No, you are coming with us!”

“No!” Momo stood her ground. She bit her lip trying to prevent another sob from escaping her lips, “Please, Shouto. Save our children.”

“What about you?” Shouto whispered after a few moments knowing that his wife’s stubbornness will not be swayed. The tears were falling down his face staining his cheeks. Momo shook her head walking up to him placing her trembling hands on his shoulders.

Teary-eyed she fixed his damn vest for the thousandth time, a sad smile breaking out of her pretty face, “I-I told you… You have to make sure this is on right…”

“You were planning this all along, weren’t you?” Shouto whispered grabbing her trembling hands from fidgeting with his thermal vest.

Momo’s lips shook giving him a sad smile as her eyes went from his chest to his eyes. She placed her hand on his chest feeling his heartbeat under her fingertips, “I’m sorry, Shouto. This is the only way.”

Shouto cursed, tears continuing to fall, and his lips downturned into a frown, “There has to be another way… I can’t leave you… I need you…” He said in desperation trying to convince himself, but he knew it was all for naught.

Suddenly, memories of simpler times when both she and Shouto were just students in U.A. resurfaced… Was this what it was like when a person knew it was their last? Momo swallowed a huge gulp leaning forward to kiss him, passionately. She squeezed her eyes shut feeling his soft lips kiss her for what to be the millionth time.

Shouto. Momo’s mind started to wander as his lips continued to kiss her leaving her breathless feeling like she was sixteen again. She desperately held onto him, his touch was so accustomed to her, perfect for her. What she would have done to just feel his arms wrapped around her as they peacefully laid in bed. Sucking in for air, Momo and Shouto stopped their chest, foreheads pressed against each other’s as she looked into his beautiful turquoise and gray eyes.

His eyes which she fell in love with. The very eyes that taught her so much about the once cold, expressionless boy whom she met during their first year of U.A. Those very lips who said sweet words that made her fall in love with a boy with red and white hair. His hands gently cupping the sides of her cheeks were the very ones who held her so gently every morning and every night.

A sob escaped from Shouto’s throat pulling back as his turquoise and stormy gray eyes looked into hers knowing this will be the last time he will look into the very girl he fell in love with all those years ago. His wife bore his four beautiful children. The love of his life, the only love of his life. “I love you.”

Momo blinked back hot tears, “I love you, Shouto. My Shouto. Please promise me you’ll protect our children, Shouto. Protect them and live. Live for them, live for me.”

Shouto took a shaky breath, “I will, Momo. I promise.”

“Mother?” Mitsue whimpered from behind his parents, his twin brothers still holding tightly onto his coat while he carefully held his sleeping sister in his arms. “What do you mean you’re not coming with us?”

Momo held back her tears rushing over to her children, “I’m so sorry, I truly am. I have to stay back in order to protect you-“

“— then I’ll stay back, too!” Yukiko protested standing up strong, his little fists clenched at his sides as his black eyes so identical to hers looked back at her although full of fright determined, “I can fight, mommy! I will protect you!”

Momo smiled sadly moving forward to touch Yukiko’s cheek, “My sweet Yukiko… You have to go-“

“Yukiko’s right, mother! With our help, we can protect you and father! We can…” Mitsue started to interject, but the look his mother gave him shot him down. He may only be seven years old, but he’s proven to both of his parents how clever he was for his age. He had a gift for reading people. With the sad look in his mother’s eyes, he knew…

“Mom-“ Yukiko’s lip quivered.

“You have to go,” Momo said again in a gentle tone, this time more forcibly. Yukiko slumped his hands flying up to his eyes as he angrily wiped away the tears.

She gently took Sora from Mitsue’s arms, brushing back her soft black hair and kissing her cheeks unable to stop her tears from falling into Sora’s coat, “I love you, my sweet little baby. I’m so sorry I won’t be there for you… I love you,” She whispered into Sora’s ear kissing her one last time and holding her close as her eyes gazed at her sleeping face. She then handed her to Shouto who gently slipped her into the harness that was strapped to his chest, securely tucking her into it as she immediately snuggled into his father’s chest.

She then turned to her eldest son, Mitsue cupping his cheek while the other hand reached for the red-haired twin, Haru taking his hand into hers. In between the two boys, the other twin, Yukiko stared at her, huge tears rolling down his face.

She took her time looking at her sons trying to remember every detail in their faces. Mitsue, raven hair rivaling the night sky just like hers. Yukiko and Haru, bright red and soft white like Shouto.

The look of fear and confusion plastered over their innocent faces made her heartbreak into a million pieces all over again. She wrapped her arms around the three boys, pulling them into a tight hug. “Please, my Mitsue, my Yukiko, and my Haru… please listen to your father. Understand?”

“Mommy—“ Haru protested holding her close and refusing to let her go as she pulled back.

“Please,” Momo said again, this time to look into each of their eyes individually, “I love you all so much, and I will always be with you—“ She touched each of their hearts with her fingertips as she continued, “—Mitsue, protect your siblings, I know you can. Yukiko and Haru be strong for me.” The children nodded rushing forward for another hug clutching onto their mother as their tears stained her clothes.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Thud!

Momo gasped, pushing her sons towards Shouto automatically facing their bedroom door armed, “You have to leave now! They’ll be here any minute!” The walls around them were vibrating violently making it hard for them to stand upright.

Mitsue, Yukiko, and Haru all bundled up with their own small backpacks as they raced to their father. Mitsue clutched onto Shouto’s leg while Yukiko was in front of him and Haru was carried on his right hip making sure the boy didn’t hit Sora who was still in the harness, snuggled into his chest.

With a final look, Shouto and Momo looked into each other’s eyes once more. The tears and sobs wanted to wreck out of him, but he mustn’t let it. He had to be strong, he had to be strong and protect their children, “Hang on tight,” Shouto said before summoning his ice creating an ice path that pierced through the ceiling of their bedroom lifting them up at high speed away from the danger.

Her heart broke further hearing the panicked cries of her sons shouting back at her as Shouto’s ice brought them further away. Their eyes… their eyes that reminded her so much of herself and Shouto pleading for her to come along.

But she couldn’t.

She can’t.

She needed to save them.

The last bits of the wood and ice were finally giving in. Another loud explosion did it, sending debris towards her causing Momo to squint using her forearm to shield her face. Momo grunted jumping back as she quickly created a shield and sword ready to defend herself and buy them some time.

The ugly villain crept through the charred wood and broken steel a wicked grin plastered across his scarred face. He laughed, eyes disgustingly looking at her up and down noticing her lack of clothing due to her quirk, “I’m going to have fun with you, famous pro-hero Creati.”

Momo’s eyes narrowed, a snarl on her lips, “You’re going to regret coming after me and my family!”

With a final cry, her thoughts rushed through her head: from the first day she saw Shouto in homeroom, to their first kiss, to their wedding day and every birth of their children. All precious memories she could live through no matter if she wasn’t physically there with them.

Tears were streaming down her angry face as she rushed towards the villain.

I need to save them, I need to!
