Chapter Text
Early morning Spring sunlight filters in through the window of Lucien’s bedroom, casting soft shadows across the slumbering woman in his bed. It’s a rare morning in England with the sun showing like this, especially since rain has hovered over the town for days, and Lucien leans against the doorframe of the bathroom, waiting for her to roll over. He wants to go back to bed, but he doesn’t want to disturb her, so he waits until she’s rolled away from him, toward the window, before carefully pulling back the covers and settling next to her again.
She turns over again, immediately.
“Go back to sleep, Kate,” Lucien whispers, then quickly brushing a stray strand of hair from her freckled face. “It’s early.” She smiles, eyes still shut.
“I know, but we didn’t close the curtains.” Kate yawns and turns onto her back, not seeming to mind in the slightest that the covers have fallen away from her ample chest and left her naked.
“And whose fault is that?” She smiles and shakes her head at Lucien’s teasing tone, then finally opens her eyes. Kate blinks against the soft light a few times before turning onto her side to face him.
“Mine.” She grins; Lucien grins back. “Can you blame me? You looked hot; how could I not fuck you senseless after I finally got you to myself?”
“Yes, and then you wore yourself out and fell asleep on top of me, so I couldn’t close the curtains.” Kate yawns again and rests her head against Lucien’s chest.
“I should get up, anyway. My thesis won’t write itself.”
“Neither will mine.” Kate scoffs and idly runs her fingers through her bedhead while her hot morning breath send goosebumps across Lucien’s skin. He catches a long flash of fire-orange in her tresses and smiles to himself.
“Don’t even try to tell me you haven’t finished yours! You probably look in the mirror every morning and recite it to yourself as you brush your teeth or tweeze your eyebrows or whatever.”
Lucien doesn’t reply (though she is correct), so Kate gets out of bed and starts to search the tidy room for clothing. Lucien watches as she completely ignores last night’s clothes and settles on rooting through the laundry hamper. Kate plucks one of his undershirts from the hamper, then presses it to her face and takes a deep breath.
“You’re filthy,” he teases, as he admires the way Kate’s short, curvy frame looks while illuminated in front of the window. “Come on, don’t put that on.” Kate giggles and tosses the shirt aside, which only minorly irks Lucien at this point. It had taken some time to get used to her messiness, but Lucien eventually accepted that Kate herself is just messy.
Her apartment is messy; Lucien has never seen it without some shirt or jacket slung over the couch or a pair of shoes peeking out from under the kitchen table.
Her hair is messy, frizzy, and wild. Kate’s hair reminds Lucien of a wild animal, perhaps a tiger.
She gives messy blowjobs. Lucien does, however, find immense enjoyment in receiving them; Kate always seems ravenous when she wraps her lips around his cock. She slobbers and sucks and licks, and she usually does it while fearlessly staring him down.
Even her eyeliner is messy. Whether she’s cried or not, her eyeliner is always at least slightly smeared when she comes home from class or from work.
“Come back to bed; it’s still early,” Lucien reiterates, as he props himself up on his elbows.
“Says the man who was already awake. I don’t understand you, Lucien; we were out so late!” A smile tugs at the corner of Lucien’s mouth as he recalls the previous night: bright colors and blacklights, loud music, and this messy woman pressed against him like they were the only two people in the world.
“I don’t require a lot of sleep.” Kate rolls her eyes.
“I’m hungry, now that I’m awake.” She eyes Lucien up and down before a wry smile spreads across her face. “I get hungry in the morning, you know?”
“Yes,” Lucien replies simply, yet knowingly, as she crawls up the bed to him and places a gentle kiss on his cheek. Kate rarely eats any sort of actual breakfast.
Wordlessly, Lucien cradles her face in his hands and pulls Kate into a soft kiss, soft like her lips and her skin, soft like the hazy light of the bedroom. After pushing away the covers, she straddles him and wastes no time in pressing her chest against his, then trailing light kisses down his jawline.
Lucien draws his hands down Kate’s back slowly until he reaches her plump ass and gives it a squeeze. She sighs softly against his neck while her hands find their way to his hair and her fingers loosely grasp the dark, inky strands.
“Lucien,” she whispers, then beginning to grind her hips against his naked lap, “I…”
Still silent, Lucien reaches between Kate’s legs and begins to rub little circles around her clit; his skin prickles under the vibration of her moans against his shoulder, and it isn’t long before she’s slick against his cock.
“Lucien,” she whispers, again, now with more urgency as she quickens the grinding of her hips, “ah…”
Quiet still, Lucien grasps his cock and rubs it against her wet slit, waiting as patiently as he can for her to take him. Kate likes it on top, and she loves to watch Lucien enjoy her. She doesn’t make him wait long, pulling back for only a few breathy moments before sinking onto Lucien’s cock entirely and pulling him into a deep, gasping kiss.
Lucien believes morning sex is lovely. Sure, it’s nice to wake up and start the day with intense pleasure, but Lucien also loves the honesty of sex first thing in the morning. When somebody wakes up and is still half-asleep, drowsy, it’s harder for them to hide whatever emotions they genuinely feel in those moments. Bedhead, morning breath, and initial wake-up grumpiness aside-
“Ah!” Sudden sensations of the snap and crash of hips jerks Lucien from his musings and a gasp from his mouth. Clearly, Kate doesn’t want to waste any time this morning. He lays back against the pillows and watches, mesmerized as Kate holds his gaze steady and rolls her hips up and down, deliberately, sensually. The light of the rising sun against her hair gives her a sort of fuzzy halo, and Lucien can’t help but wonder how he ever found her.
How did he come across this woman, of all the people in England, in his university, in the portion of the student body that conducts research in the lab adjacent to his own?
Perhaps, the better question at this point is the question of what they’ll both do now that they’ve found each other.
Kate leans forward and kisses Lucien, then she nestles her face in the crook of his neck. She shifts forward and nearly slides all the way off his cock, but she stops at the tip and slowly circles her hips. Lucien grabs her ass but doesn’t try to take control; he just wants to touch her, especially while she ignites him.
“Kate…” he groans, as she starts to slide up and down his shaft at a pace that’s just past leisurely. Lucien’s touch on her body remains light, yet somehow desperate; the rising sun always sheds light on the blatant truth, no matter how hard they try to dance it away in the night.
They’ll both finish school soon, and Lucien will return home to China. He knows Kate doesn’t want to move with him. England is her home, and she’s already expressed that she isn’t willing to marry him; yet, engagement is her prerequisite to moving so far away. Kate has always been rather stubborn, but Lucien feels he simply can’t win, now.
They have sex often, and such has always been the case in their relationship, but neither can help wondering each time if that time will be the last time.
“Lucien,” she whispers, as she quickens her pace and presses herself against him, “I-I’m close. I…” Lucien closes his eyes and nuzzles her hair, anticipating the way she’ll squeeze and tighten around his cock and the way he’ll follow too quickly for his liking. He can never resist her for long, especially not in the morning.
“Yes…ohhhh…” Lucien trails off into a soft moan as she comes on top of him, her hot, slightly stale breath ghosting against his neck and sending a shiver down his spine as she clenches around his cock. Kate pauses for a few shaky moments as she comes down from her climax, but it’s not long before she sits up and leans back. Her curves are completely on display for Lucien, and he holds his breath when she starts to grind against him, her legs still shaky.
“Lucien!” she gasps, as she starts to roll her hips. Her sex is sensitive now, but she has the perfect vantage point to watch Lucien enjoy her and lay helpless to his pleasure. The way she says is name is almost reverent; her tone always makes Lucien blush, and she loves it.
“I – ah – am going to – ah –” Lucien’s words give way to moans as Kate quickens the roll of her lips, then finally leaning forward to place a gentle kiss on his lips. She laughs playfully into Lucien’s ear as he finishes and groans under her, and he pulls her closer, closer, until they’re all but fused together. For this moment, they’ll never have to part.
Kate finally pulls away from him and goes to the bathroom to clean herself up. When Lucien rolls onto his side, she is standing in the doorway brushing her tangled mess of hair. She pauses to toss Lucien a washcloth, and he doesn’t miss the way she watches him as he cleans himself up. Her gaze is reverent, just like her whisperings of his name, and Lucien sighs heavily, breath dripping with confliction when she joins him in bed.
“What’s wrong?” she whispers, her tone now slightly melancholic, not reverent, as she looks directly into Lucien’s eyes.
“Are you hungry, now?” he asks, ignoring her question. Kate chuckles lightly and shakes her head.
“No. Maybe tea, first.”
“That sounds nice.” Despite the agreement, neither of them moves for a few moments. Lucien does his best to ignore the subtle sadness splashed across her face, but it only becomes more apparent when she begins to idly trail her fingers along his shoulder.
“Lucien?”
“Hmmm?” He braces himself, mentally.
“What’s going to happen when we finish school?” Lucien sighs again, still conflicted.
“We’ve talked about this.”
“Yes,” she murmurs, shifting around restlessly before ultimately returning to the same laying position.
“You can still come with me.” Kate’s facial expression shifts to a sort of alarm, momentarily. “Don’t worry, I haven’t purchased any new jewelry.”
“I’m sorry…” Kate shifts again but keeps her fingers on Lucien’s arm. “I’m not ready to get married, and-”
“Yes, I know, you won’t move so far unless you’re betrothed,” he interrupts, tone now terse. She doesn’t miss the shift in Lucien’s voice, but it doesn’t anger her.
“We’ll still talk, right?”
“Of course,” Lucien replies with a light nod. “If you want to.”
“I do.” Kate’s expression becomes contradictory; her eyes seem cloudy, but her smile is genuine. “Lucien?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you think your parents would have liked me?” Lucien feels a sharp pang in his chest, and he looks directly into Kate’s cloudy eyes before answering her:
“Yes. They would have loved you.” She merely nods in reply, but her complexion does seem the slightest bit more luminous. “Let me make you breakfast. All that exercise must have left you hungry,” Lucien smirks.
“Only if you’ll let me wear your shirt,” she retorts, with a grin.
“I will.”
They decide, in their own minds, they’ll have sex at least once more before the night falls again and the bright lights of the city wash away their worries. Dissertation presentations begin in a few weeks, and Lucien is more than ready for his, but he knows he isn’t ready to leave. She isn’t ready for either.
As they eat breakfast in the soft morning light, Lucien briefly allows himself to recall the walk he took after class a few days ago. He needed a break from being cooped up inside, so he strolled around, umbrella in hand, and though the rain had been falling all afternoon, he still couldn’t help but stop at one of the storefronts.
Lucien’s taste in jewelry may not be the best, but he couldn’t help looking an unassuming yet beautiful silver band. It could be engraved.
Now, as in front of that window, Lucien has no words, so he shakes his head lightly to clear his mind and finishes his breakfast.
