Chapter Text
“Nope. Not in the mood,” Jimin mumbled, taking another bite of his sandwich.
Jimin loved his university’s food court. More specifically, he loved the sandwich bar in the corner of his university’s food court. They make mean salmon-and-herb sandwiches that Jimin likes to treat himself with after his last lecture on Fridays.
He was really enjoying his sandwich. He was definitely not enjoying this conversation.
“Jimin, please,” Taehyung begged, eyes getting even bigger. His best friend had the tendency to be extremely cute if he needed something from him. Jimin should’ve been immune to it as the years had gone by, but alas, he wasn't. Taehyung knew this.
“Hoseok’s going to be there looking sexy as usual,” Taehyung said, “and I can’t take the polite flirting anymore. He’s graduating at the end of the year and I need him to be mine before that.”
Jimin sighed. “Why do you need me to go with you?”
“Because I'm not invited!”
“Neither am I.”
“'Cause you don’t need an invitation to go there, you’re basically best friends.”
“Same goes for you, Tae, you know you could just attend if you wanted to.”
“Not without you there with me.”
“Ask Kook to go with you,” Jimin said with a sigh, taking another bite of his sandwich. God, why did he only get one sandwich? They’re so good.
“He did ask me,” Jungkook replied as he dropped his stuff on their table and slid into the booth next to Taehyung. “I said I’m only going if Jimin goes.”
Jimin rolled his eyes. “Why are you both like this?”
“Because!” Taehyung shouted, and Jimin could see heads turn to look at the three of them. “You’re the one that can get us in! You’re the key to Hoseok’s keyhole!”
“Gross,” Jungkook added, shaking his head.
Jimin took another bite as he tried to ignore the stares of the people in the other booths surrounding them.
“You can literally ask him himself,” he replied. “It’s his party.”
“It’s not Hoseok’s party,” Taehyung chimed in. “It’s Namjoon’s.”
“It’s Hoseok’s birthday party.”
"Hosted by Namjoon,” Taehyung said then. He grabbed Jimin’s hand before Jimin could take the final bite of his lunch.
“Can you just text him to ask if we can still come tonight? Please,” Taehyung begged, a pout appearing on his face. Jimin looked at Taehyung for a few moments, taking in his wide brown eyes and his small, puckered out lower lip.
Damn you, Taehyung.
“ Fine! Fine, I’ll ask if we can come,” Jimin gave in, barely able to finish his sentence before Taehyung engulfed him in a body-crushing hug.
“Thank you, Jimin, my best friend, soulmate, love of my life!” Taehyung shouted in his ear, making Jimin groan and Jungkook snort. “I’ll make sure to name our first born after you if- no, when. When this gets me in his pants.”
“The khaki dungarees with the stitched rainbow flowers?” Jungkook said, completely ignoring how Jimin couldn't seem to breathe.
“Those exact pants, yes,” Taehyung answered, a huge smile on his face.
“This better be worth it,” Jimin squeaked in Taehyung’s grip.
“It will be,” Taehyung said determinedly. He gripped Jimin even tighter, ignoring the groan Jimin let out. “Let’s text Namjoon to confirm,” Taehyung says then, making Jimin roll his eyes.
“Maybe let go of me first?” he mumbled, and it’s only then that Taehyung registered he was still tightly holding on to Jimin’s small frame. He let go, an unbothered grin present on his face.
“Sorry,” Taehyung apologized, actually sounding a bit bashful. “I’m just really excited for tonight.”
“I noticed.” Jimin grumbled as he took his mobile phone out of his pocket.
“What’s gotten you in such a shitty mood?” Jungkook asked, taking a sip of his tea. “You’ve been sulky since I got here.”
“He’s been sulky all day,” Taehyung jumped in.
Jimin looked up from his phone. Jungkook was staring at him, eyebrows raised skeptically. Taehyung pressed his lips together before grabbing his coke bottle, conveniently avoiding eye contact.
They’re not wrong – Jimin had been in a shitty mood. All week actually.
He’d been working on his graduation thesis for the better part of three months. First, he had to go through the stress of picking a subject that was unique and interesting enough for his course leader to approve. Then, after dismissing the majority of his ideas because they were ‘inconclusive’ and ‘simply not worth the research’, Jimin had finally landed a subject and hypothesis to go with it.
He’d been working closely with his thesis coordinator for weeks – he was apparently the only teacher in the literature faculty qualified in Ancient Greek. This was going all fine and dandy, until Jimin received an email yesterday that stated that the coordinator’s wife had gone into labor, and that the man would be taking the next weeks off for paternity leave.
Good for him, obviously. Bad for Jimin, as he was now going to be stuck with a replacement coordinator who’d be guiding him through the next month. As in, the month he’s supposed to hand in his first draft.
“Sorry guys,” Jimin said, realizing he’d been bringing the mood down. “It’s just- this thesis thing, you know?” Jimin continued, to which Taehyung let out an understanding hum.
“I’m supposed to meet my interim coordinator in a few minutes. He’s not even a teacher. He’s a PhD student and teaching assistant here on campus.”
“They couldn’t get you a teacher?” Jungkook asked then.
“Apparently no-one else was qualified to work on Ancient Greek literature,” Jimin shrugged. “He’s doing his PhD on the Roman Empire, so they found that relatable enough, it seems.”
“Sucks,” Taehyung replied then.
“My thoughts exactly,” Jimin murmured. He started shoving his belongings into his bag. “I just hope he knows what I’m talking about,” he said then.
It’s not that Jimin was worried about failing his thesis. It was the complete opposite really – he loved writing about the old philosophers; loved to dive deep into this world where myths and reality used to mix, where gods came to life and poetry was considered one of the highest forms of art and entertainment.
Jimin had always been in awe of the Ancient Greek world. He just hoped this TA guy felt even a fraction of passion for it, too.
“Who knows,” Jungkook said when Jimin scooted himself out of the booth. “Maybe this guy ends up being more helpful than your teacher.”
“Yeah,” Jimin said, a small smile growing on his face as he looked at Jungkook’s bright eyes. He’d always been the most positive one out of the three of them. “Fingers crossed,” Jimin said then, and grabbed his bag from the couch.
“I’ll see you guys later,” he says, turning around to make his way out the food court. He could hear Taehyung’s voice shout after him.
“Don’t forget to-”
“Yeah, yeah, text Namjoon, I got it!” Jimin shouted back, a genuine smile on his face as he waved his phone in the air without looking back.
It usually took less than ten minutes to get to the Arts and Languages building on the edge of the campus, but Jimin still hurried to get there a few minutes before his meeting. He rushed up the escalator to the third floor, where the offices of the Language faculty members were located.
When Jimin walked up to the open door of the usual office he goes to, he could see a figure sitting at the desk where his thesis coordinator Mr. Sung would've been sitting. The person sitting there however, was nothing what Jimin expected.
The guy looked young, nearing the end of his twenties. His honey blond hair was almost fully covered by a grey beanie. He was wearing a big black sweater that obviously dwarfed him, boney fingers poking out from his sleeves as he rubbed his eyes before leaning completely forward again, face nearly inside his laptop screen.
Jimin wasn’t sure if the man simply forgot to wear glasses or if he just had bad eyes, but then the man scrunched up his face.
Oh, Jimin thought. He’s cute.
“Excuse me,” Jimin said as he knocked on the open door. The guy looked up from his laptop.
“Oh,” he said, straightening up when Jimin walked in. “Are you Park Jimin?”
“Hi, yes,” Jimin said, putting up a smile as he moved forward to shake the guy’s hand. “Mr. Min, right?”
“Yoongi is fine,” the guy said as he stood up to take Jimin’s hand in his. It was bigger than Jimin’s and warmer than he'd expected.
“Nice to meet you, Yoongi,” Jimin replied.
Up close, Jimin could see that the man was as tall as him, maybe a little shorter. His brown eyes were small and kind, his cheeks round and his lips a soft pink.
Shit. He was really cute.
“Nice to meet you, too, Jimin,” Yoongi said then. “Have a seat.”
“Thank you,” Jimin answered as he placed his bag on the floor next to him. He shrugged his leather jacket off, hung it on the back of the chair before sitting down. As he crossed his legs, he caught Yoongi’s gaze trailing his legs before he looked back up in Jimin’s eyes again.
There was a hint of something stirring in Jimin’s chest, but before he could even begin to decipher what it was, Yoongi started talking again.
“I’ve read the majority of your work that Mr. Sung sent me so far,” he began, opening a folder on his laptop. “You’re quite the Hellenistic fan, I can see,” he continued.
“I am,” Jimin said. “I heard you prefer the Romans over the Greeks?”
“I’ve always enjoyed both their histories, but I chose to stick with the Romans, yes.”
“Even though they technically stole everything from the Greeks?” Jimin said then, raising his eyebrow when Yoongi locked eyes with him again. There was a hint of a smirk on his face, Jimin could see.
“Mr. Sung is right, you seem to like a challenge,” Yoongi replied after a moment.
“Only when I know I can win.”
Their gazes were still locked to each other, Yoongi’s eyes unwavering as a second passed by, and then another before he moved it back to the computer screen to type notes.
It was only then that Jimin realized he’d been holding his breath. He exhaled quietly enough for Yoongi not to notice. That feeling in his chest stirred awake again.
“Right,” Yoongi said then, clearing his throat. “So, I know your hypothesis, I understand your framework. What’s next?”
It took Jimin nearly fifteen minutes to explain exactly what he’d like his thesis to look like, what sources he’d been working with, what conclusions he hoped to draw and what parts he’d been stuck on.
Yoongi was quiet for the majority of it; typing up some notes as Jimin spoke, nodding whenever Jimin concluded a point, or asking him to elaborate more.
He was surprisingly well-informed about Jimin’s chosen topic. Jimin wondered if this was because he’d been researching Jimin’s thesis, or if he was simply just knowledgeable. He seemed wise, and Jimin liked it.
At the end of their meeting Jimin was way more confident than he was before he’d walked into the room.
“Thank you so much, Yoongi,” Jimin said as he stood up and gathered his belongings. “I’ll send over that last counter argument for you to check and see if the sources are relevant enough.”
“Sure,” Yoongi said then. He stood up as well, hovering around Jimin a little before he followed him to the door.
“Well-” Yoongi starts.
“So-” Jimin says at the same time, and the two of them freeze before letting out a snort.
“I’ll… see you next week, then?” Jimin asked, a careful smile on his face.
“Yes, yes that’s great,” Yoongi answered. “Uh, feel free to send me an email any time, okay?”
“I will,” Jimin said, his smile growing bigger. He straightened the strap of his bag on his shoulder. “Thanks again. I was really stressing about the change of coordinators but after this meeting I feel a lot more comfortable.”
“Well, if I’m being honest, I have no idea what I’m doing,” Yoongi snorted, and looked down as he scratched the back of his neck. Jimin was close enough to see Yoongi’s long lashes fan over his cheeks. He only realized he’d been quiet for too long when Yoongi suddenly looked up, eyes wide.
“I mean- I know what I’m doing, don’t worry,” he said. Jimin spotted a pink hue on Yoongi’s cheeks. “I’m taking this seriously, of course. I- I just meant that I need to start th-”
“What? Oh,” Jimin said as he started laughing. “It’s fine! I’m not worried. I’m sure the two of us will work it out,” he chuckled, reaching out to touch Yoongi’s lower arm for a moment before retreating back again.
Jimin could see Yoongi’s gaze move from where he’d touched him up to Jimin's lips, before going back up to his eyes. The blush on Yoongi’s face intensified, it seemed.
“Yeah,” Yoongi nods. “We’ll… yeah. You’re fin- You'll be fine,” he echoes.
Jimin pressed his lips together to force himself not to coo out loud.
“See you later, Yoongi,” Jimin said, and walked away with a smile on his face.
*
When Jimin walked through the door of the fully packed apartment he couldn’t help but let out a sigh. Thankfully for him, the music was loud enough so no one could hear it – especially not Taehyung, who seemed to burst with excitement.
“Let’s do this!” he yelled in Jimin’s ear, nudging him towards the crowded living room.
Hoseok and Namjoon’s apartment was in a building on the opposite side of their campus. Jimin had come over often enough for it to feel like it was his second home. Not just for the parties Hoseok was known for throwing – he was probably the most popular senior on campus – but also because he spent a lot of time hanging out with his old neighbor Namjoon in his spare time.
When Jimin had told Namjoon he’d be going to the same university as him two years ago, he and his roommate Hoseok had immediately taken him under his wing; inviting him to all of their parties and introducing him to a majority of their friends.
To say that Jimin was somewhat popular would be an understatement. Jimin knew that people knew who he was, that they talked about him when he walked past, and that they seemed to be very interested in his social life.
He also knew he was deemed quite attractive by most people standards – he was fit; slim but toned in the right places. He knew people talked about his lips as much as they talked about his ass. He wasn’t shy about his love for skincare either, which had led to his face looking glowy and healthy.
Funnily enough, Jimin never really liked the attention, even though by now it was something he knew how to navigate well.
The scene they stumbled upon in the living room was exactly what Jimin had expected: hip-hop music playing loud, girls and guys hanging out on and around every available surface, with cups and glasses full of liquor. The glass door to the balcony was open, and Jimin could see a group of people lounging on a couple of chairs, smoking what most likely was weed.
“I’m gonna grab some beers from the kitchen, be right back,” Jungkook said, disappearing before either of them could reply. Jimin glanced back from Jungkook to Taehyung, who was already looking at him with a big smile.
“Tonight’s the night, Jimin, I can feel it,” Taehyung said, his grin growing. “Jung Hoseok is going to be mine by the end of the night.”
“I’m rooting for you, Tae,” Jimin said, unable to suppress a smile. “This better be worth the hangover tomorrow.”
“Oh, it will be. Fingers crossed you and Kook will be leaving without me tonight,” Taehyung said, wiggling his eyebrows and making Jimin laugh.
“Ready to go,” Jungkook said as he came back, giving the two of them their beer bottles.
Jimin knew that there would be more people throughout the apartment, but none of the rooms were where the three of them would spend their evening.
No, whenever there was any kind of party at Hoseok and Namjoon’s place, they knew exactly where to go.
Jimin led the way while saying hi to a couple of classmates; continuing down the hallway and passing the bathroom all the way to end of the hall. He opened the door that led to the fire escape, the loud music dying down immediately when the door closed behind Jungkook, talking and loud laughter taking over from above them.
The three of them climbed the small set of stairs to the rooftop, where Jimin could already hear the familiar voices of the rest of his friends.
Technically, the rooftop was off-limits to all students, but that hadn’t stopped Namjoon and Hoseok from using it regularly – especially when throwing house parties. While everyone played around downstairs doing God-knows-what in the apartment, Hoseok, Namjoon and their smaller group of friends usually hung out on the roof.
It consisted of a wide flat surface with a gravel floor and a bunch of plants Namjoon had brought up to take care of. In terms of furniture, there were old plastic chairs, a foldable table where a range of empty beer cans and bottles had taken over its surface, and fairy lights – courtesy of Taehyung coming by last year to ‘spruce up the place’. Jimin had to admit that it did look better now.
In the middle of the floor was a small shed that apparently had been abandoned for years – so much so that there was no lock on the wooden door, and the only things inside the shed (apart from the single light bulb) were things Namjoon and Hoseok had left behind. It eventually became the place where they stored the furniture after any hangout.
“There they are!” Hoseok’s voice sounded loud but welcoming in the warm summer night as the three stepped on the rooftop, walking closer to the group of guys sitting on chairs and beer crates. “The most eligible bachelors in town! The three most handsome men on campus! The gods of the universit-”
“Every time,” Jimin giggled as he walked closer to the group. “You do this every time, hyung.”
“It’s the truth, Jiminie,” he said as he stood up, arms wide with a bottle of beer in his hands, “no matter how hard you deny it.”
Jimin rolled his eyes but went in for a hug anyway, the smile still lingering on his face.
“Happy birthday, hyung,” Jimin said then. “My present to you is right here,” he said, pointing behind himself, “in the shape of Kim Taehyung,”
“Is that so?” Hoseok said, lifting his eyebrow as he gazed over Jimin’s shoulder to the boy behind him. “You’re my present, Tae?”
“Present, future,” Taehyung said as he went over to hug Hoseok, “Whatever you want me to be, hyung.”
Jimin could hear Hoseok laugh, which made him exchange a glance with Jungkook. Jungkook smiled before nudging his head over to the rest of the group to indicate giving the two guys some time alone, which Jimin was glad to do.
“Mini, Kook, come over here!” Namjoon said as he waved the two of them over. “You know the guys,” he continued, to which Jungkook and Jimin both nodded.
Jimin could see a bunch of familiar faces from other parties – Namjoon and Hoseok’s senior friends. There was another guy right next to Namjoon, though, one Jimin didn’t recognize.
He was beautiful; with sleek, dark brown hair, a face that belonged in movies, and lips that rivaled his own.
“This is Seokjin, my older cousin,” Namjoon said with a smile that showed his dimples. “Hyung, this is Jimin, and that’s Jungkook,” Namjoon said as the guys exchanged handshakes.
“Nice to meet you,” Seokjin said, his smile confirming what Jimin already thought – that Seokjin was the most beautiful human being he’d ever seen in his entire life.
“And the one over there is the one Hoseok keeps talking about,” Namjoon said as Jimin and Jungkook went to sit down in the empty chairs next to Seokjin.
“That’s Taehyung?” Seokjin asked.
“Yup,” Namjoon confirmed.
“Wow,” Seokjin continued, eyes raised. He let out a chuckle. "Yeah- yeah, I get it now.”
“What brings you here?” Jungkook asked the older man.
“Joon invited me to Hoseok’s party. I used to go to university here, too,” Seokjin said. “I graduated two years ago, but my roommate still attends this university, so I tend to dip into the social life every now and again.”
“Ah, so you’re here with them?” Jimin asked.
“Yeah, he should be here somewhere, I think he went down to pee or grab some drinks or something,” Seokjin said.
“Looking at how long it's taking him, I'd say both,” Namjoon answered.
“Oh, there he is,” Seokjin said, nudging his head towards the person who had just walked up the stairs. Jimin turned around to look at the person in question and-
Holy shit.
He watched the young man with honey blonde hair, a grey beanie and a black hoodie with two beers in his hand walk closer and closer, until he was basically right in front of him.
Holy fucking shit.
“Guys, this is Yoongi,” Seokjin said at the same time the guy finally locked eyes with Jimin.
What were the fucking odds?
“Uh, hi,” Yoongi said after a few seconds, almost quick enough to seem like it was a natural response. He reached out to shake Jungkook’s hand, and then Jimin’s. “I’m Yoongi,” he continued, his eyes conveying the clear message that they had to pretend they didn’t know each other.
“Oh,” Jimin said a little confused. He decided to go along with it anyway.
“Well, hi then,” Jimin said, toying around a little. “Nice to meet you, Yoongi. I’m Jimin, I study Ancient Greek Culture here.”
“No way,” Seokjin said, looking from Jimin to Yoongi. “Yoongi studies the same thing!”
“Really?” Jimin said at the same time Yoongi opened his mouth to speak.
“It’s not the same, hyung,” he said, while giving Seokjin his beer bottle.
“Yeah fine,” Seokjin said, “he's a PhD student but he teaches Greek at the university-”
“-assisting at first year lectures,” Yoongi interrupted.
“-and studies the Roman Empire,” Seokjin continued. “So yes, basically the same thing.”
“I see,” Jimin said as Yoongi let out a frustrated sigh. Yoongi walked away then, most likely looking for an empty chair to drag back to the rest of the group. Hoseok and Taehyung had claimed the last empty chair across from them, Taehyung sitting down first with Hoseok sitting on his lap.
“Ignore him being moody,” Seokjin said with a smile as they watched Yoongi stomp off. “I’ve been teasing him all day, and he gets a little whiny when he’s had some alcohol.”
“What were you teasing him about?” Jungkook asked.
“He said there was cute student in the office today that made him question his morals,” Namjoon chuckled.
“A cute student?” Jimin said, eyes wide with surprise. He felt the flutters from that afternoon reappearing in his stomach.
“In his office?” Jungkook asked. “PhD students get offices here?”
“No, he’s substituting for a thesis coordinator for the next month and he’s been helping a bunch of students with their drafts,” Seokjin explained.
“He’s a substitute thesis coordinator?” Taehyung asked, his and Jungkook's suspicious gazes now on Jimin instead of Seokjin.
Jimin kept his eyes on the beer bottle in his hand. Maybe he'd mentioned it to his friends how he'd like to have a go with the TA he'd met, and how he'd already imagined his big hands and long fingers on his body in very explicit ways.
“Temporarily, yeah,” Seokjin said, not realizing what was happening. “So, you might see him on your side of the campus over the next few weeks, Jimin.”
“I’ll keep an eye out,” Jimin said, suppressing his smile as Yoongi came back with a foldable chair, placing it across from them, next to Hoseok and Taehyung.
Luckily for Yoongi the conversation continued on from teasing to the usual stuff, even as Jungkook and Taehyung keep sneaking glances at Yoongi and back to Jimin. There were introductions of course, stories about when they were all younger along with embarrassing anecdotes each of them had about each other.
It turns out that Seokjin had studied drama in the same faculty Taehyung was studying Arts & Culture in. He had graduated with honors and now worked as a stage manager’s assistant in one of the bigger youth theatre companies in the city.
“It’s definitely fun, but theatre kids...” Seokjin trailed off, letting out a chuckle. “Gosh, I really hope I wasn’t so dramatic in high school.”
“You were,” Yoongi said. “He once asked a girl out in Shakespearean English while wearing something out of a costume drama,” he said, making the group laugh.
Yoongi locked eyes with Jimin before moving his gaze down to his phone quickly. The two of them had exchanged glances as the evening had progressed, although Jimin noticed Yoongi was still quite shy, avoiding his gaze while Jimin kept his eyes on him.
Jimin could also see that both Jungkook and Taehyung had quickly caught up on their dynamic.
“I tend to be a little dramatic when I have crushes, I admit,” Seokjin laughed. “I remember that when I played seven minutes in heaven in high school I ended up immediately falling in love,” Seokjin laughed. “We only lasted two months though, but I really thought I’d found my soulmate at the time.”
“God, I barely remember the last time I played that,” Namjoon said, shaking his head. “I was way too drunk.”
“You’ve played seven minutes in heaven before?” Yoongi asked, raising his eyebrows.
“You haven’t?” Namjoon asked then, genuine surprise in his voice.
Yoongi shook his head. “I’m not the main character of a high school rom-com, so no,” he snorted.
“You should try it, hyung,” Hoseok nudged, Taehyung’s arm around his waist. “Matter of fact- we can try it now. We have a closet,” Hoseok said, pointing to the brown shed behind him.
“Sorta,” Taehyung added.
“And there’s a bunch of beer bottles on the table waiting to be spinned,” Hoseok finished.
“You can’t spin a bottle on gravel, Seok," Yoongi sighed, his gaze on his phone in his lap. “Besides, who the hell wants to play seven minutes in heaven with a tipsy stranger in a dodgy shed?”
“Me,” Jimin said.
Yoongi’s head whipped up so fast Jimin knew it must’ve hurt. Jimin snorted, crossing his leg over the other.
“I’m up for it.” he said as the rest of the group turned to look at him. He shrugged then, moving his beer bottle to take a sip.
Yoongi’s eyes were still wide and staring at him. It was only after a second or two that he realized all conversation around them had died down, so he cleared his throat and let out an awkward chuckle.
“I, uh, I- I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Yoongi said, avoiding Jimin’s gaze now as he scratched the back of his neck.
“Why not?” Jimin asked, making everybody look at him again. He put his beer bottle on top of his thigh, looking up from the bottle in his hand directly to Yoongi, who seemed frozen in his spot.
“Don’t you want to kiss me?”
A mischievous smile grew on Jimin’s face. He raised an eyebrow while keeping his gaze on Yoongi. The older man’s mouth hung slightly open before he quite quickly closed it and gulped.
“Oh, unless you’re not int-”
“He’s into men,” Seokjin interrupted. “And open about it, by the way,” Seokjin quickly added, raising his hands. “I’m not an asshole.”
“I see,” Jimin smiled, his gaze still not leaving Yoongi. “Or maybe you’re-”
“He’s single,” Seokjin interrupted again. “Honestly, Jimin, he has no valid reason to say no to you.”
“Good,” Jimin smirked, his eyes back on Yoongi. After a few seconds, he placed his bottle down on the floor next to him before uncrossing his legs, standing up straight. He walked over to where Yoongi had sat down and stopped right in front of him.
Then, he reached out his hand.
“Come on,” Jimin said. “Seven minutes, let’s do it.”
He could hear familiar snickering happening from behind him, courtesy of one Jeon Jungkook.
Jimin didn’t know why he felt so brave that moment. He barely had anything to drink, and he could’ve easily let this situation, this opportunity go without a problem. And yet, he didn’t.
Because there was something about Yoongi. Something he'd felt when they’d met earlier that day. It had been present in his gaze; in the air between the two of them that had felt heavy. Jimin was sure he hadn’t imagined Yoongi feeling it, too.
When, after a few silent seconds, Yoongi reached up to grab his hand Jimin couldn’t help but smile, his heart picking up in speed. He ignored the whooping and yelling that arose around them from their friends, instead turning around to walk towards the shed, Yoongi right next to him. He seemed to ignore it all too, all the while keeping his eyes on the floor.
Jimin opened the door of the shed and turned on the light switch before stepping aside to let Yoongi in first. When Jimin walked in after him, he turned around to hold the door open, looking at the rest of the group who were eyeing them curiously.
“Time it,” Jimin yelled, before he closed the door of the shed.
When Jimin turned around, Yoongi stood across from him, but did everything he could to avoid his gaze. It made Jimin sigh loud enough for Yoongi to look up at him in confusion.
“Well?” Jimin asked, raising his eyebrows.
“Well what?” Yoongi asked. It seemed that Yoongi was either red because of the amount of alcohol he’d been drinking that night, or because it seemed to be his natural state when he was around Jimin.
Jimin just thought he looked adorable.
“Time’s ticking, Yoongi.”
“Wait... you actually want to do this?”
“Did you think I was just teasing?” Jimin asked, frowning in confusion. “Or did you think I was making fun of you?”
Yoongi surprisingly went silently, indicating that he indeed thought it was just for fun.
“I wouldn’t do that,” Jimin said that, a little more serious.
Yoongi looked down at the floor, scratching his neck before letting out a sigh.
“Jimin, w- we can’t do this.”
“Why not?” Jimin nudged. “Also, there’s six and a half minutes left now.”
“Because I’m your teacher,” Yoongi said ignoring the latter part of Jimin’s statement.
“Barely.”
“Well I’m in a in a power position over you-”
“Not yet you aren’t,” Jimin said, stepping a little closer.
“I mean- I’m in a position of power over you,” Yoongi explained, nervously tripping over his words. “And I don’t want people to think that I abused that power. And to have it affect your thesis grade if they find out we’re... friendly.”
Jimin frowned and crossed his arms, letting a few seconds of silence pass by.
“Is that why you pretended not to know me?”
“Yeah. Well, actually,” Yoongi said, letting out a sound that sounded like a snorted and a sigh, “it was mostly, uh, because, I-”
“-had told Seokjin you were crushing on me?”
“I never said I had a crush!”
“But you did talk about me?” Jimin asked with a cheeky smile. He had to admit that Yoongi was brave for not stepping back when he took another step forward.
“I’m flattered,” Jimin said, uncrossing his arms. “Six minutes.”
“Jimin-” Yoongi said, but froze when Jimin took Yoongi’s hands in his and guided them to the small of his back.
“There. So,” Jimin said determinedly, moving his own arms to rest them on Yoongi’s shoulders as he took a step closer.
“I’m going to be here,” Jimin said, voice low in the silence of the shed, “kissing your face,” he said, and placed a kiss on Yoongi’s cheek.
“Maybe your throat,” he mumbled as he moved to place kisses closer and closer to Yoongi’s ear. Jimin’s hands moved so one rested on his back and the other caressed Yoongi’s neck.
“And if you want me to stop, just say the word,” Jimin said, turning Yoongi’s head a little to place a kiss right behind his ear, eliciting a quiet gasp from the other man.
“But if you want my lips on yours,” Jimin whispered right in his ear, feeling the goosebumps on the back of Yoongi’s neck, “all you have to do is-”
Jimin didn’t realize how quickly Yoongi had turned his head until the kiss had happened. It was a quick one; a simple peck that made both Jimin and Yoongi freeze after it happened. Jimin had his eyes open, but Yoongi’s were squeezed closed, almost as if he was anticipating something bad to happen.
It made Jimin smile to see his scrunched-up eyebrows and pouty lips in this position. He moved his hand, trailing his thumb over Yoongi’s bottom lip slowly, making him open his eyes to look at him.
Jimin closed his eyes and leaned closer and Yoongi did the same, their lips touching for the second time.
He hadn’t realized how soft Yoongi’s lips were initially, their first kiss being chaste and brief. This one was deeper and different in a much, much better way.
Jimin felt his lower lip slip in between Yoongi’s soft ones. He parted his lips to lick into Yoongi’s mouth, the tip of his tongue brushing against Yoongi’s.
“Fuck,” Yoongi sighed as he shifted to pull Jimin closer, his hands going down to rest on the curve of Jimin’s ass. Jimin’s hands grabbed onto his shoulder and neck, holding onto Yoongi tightly. Jimin gasped for breath when Yoongi squeezed the soft mounds of flesh, an immediate heat stirring in the pit of his stomach.
“I take it you did want to kiss me, then?” Jimin sighed in between a kiss, to which Yoongi let out a laugh.
“You’re a little irresistible,” Yoongi said, his voice quiet and lips flushed from their kisses. Jimin’s heart skipped a beat when Yoongi kissed him again, a quick one at first before his tongue brushed against Jimin’s own and his teeth bit his lower lip to suck at it. Jimin was about to return the favor when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
Jimin moved his head back when the door opened, and couldn’t help but giggle when he could see Yoongi chase after him, eyes half-lidded and gaze still on Jimin’s lips.
“Time’s up,” Taehyung’s voice sounded from behind him. Jimin sighed before turning around to face him. Completely unsurprising to Jimin, Hoseok was standing right behind his best friend.
“I’m sure we had more time left,” Jimin said when Taehyung grabbed his arm to pull him out of the shed.
“Maybe. Maybe I just wanted to catch you guys in the act,” Taehyung said as he moved Jimin to stand next to Hoseok, Yoongi following him before Taehyung could shove him out himself.
“Or maybe you and Hoseok are just too impatient?” Jimin retaliated.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Park Jimin,” Taehyung feigned. Hoseok just let out an exasperated sigh when Taehyung grabbed his arm and pulled him into the shed with him.
“Oh,” Taehyung said as Hoseok closed the door, “and if you know what’s good for you, don’t time us!”
This made both him and Yoongi laugh out loud, the two of them looking at each other before Yoongi quickly looked down at the ground, still chuckling.
With shy smiles on their faces, the two of them walked back to the group next to each other, hands brushing before they moved apart and sat down in their respective chairs again. Jungkook, Namjoon and Seokjin eyed them both, wide grins on their faces.
“Well then,” Jungkook said, crossing his arms.
“Well what?” Jimin said, imitating Yoongi earlier.
“Was it exactly like your high school dreams, hyung?” Namjoon said to Yoongi, dimples deepening.
“It was...” Yoongi started, and finally looked up at Jimin, “...way better.”
A chorus of “oohs” and shoulder shoves couldn’t take down the smile on Jimin’s face. He grabbed his beer bottle from the ground again, taking a sip to drown the butterflies in his stomach.
“Oh, and eh, Yoongi?” Seokjin said, clearing his throat when Yoongi hummed in reply.
“About that cute student you mentioned earlier...”
