Lan Wangji heard his brother's voice raised in sharp and incomprehensible protest. His own heart was beating too loudly for him to hear anything else.

Beautifully written and mystifying. The entire story feels like it's building toward something, and then it ends just as the pieces start falling into place. I am choosing to believe the rest of it exists somewhere and has simply been hidden from me.
