Chapter Text

Trunks held Raditz’s hand even as the other man wheezed his last breath.

“Goodbye . . . my love,” he whispered. The room was empty of anyone else. He and Raditz had never sought children and the rest of the dark haired saiyan’s family had long since died. Perhaps others of the royal family could have been there, but staying beside a dying old man was not the saiyan way. They rarely had elderly and thus didn’t have much idea on how to deal with them when they finally succumbed.

The room was silent and Trunks looked down at the wrinkles in the thin papery skin of his hand. He had only a few years left himself, he realized. Perhaps less now that Raditz was gone. H e stood up, walking slowly from the room. He passed doctors and nurses who all bowed as he passed. He’d never been the heir to the throne, but he was still a prince of the royal house.

Trunks took a heaving breath as he eventually exited the hospital and lifted off the ground. He flew a short ways back to the home he’d shared with the other saiyan. He’d thought the structure would be empty but a lone figure stood outside.

The prince met the yellow slitted eyes of the destroyer god, and he cocked a smile. “You really came.”

“Of course," Beerus said simply. I told you that I would.”

Trunks smiled thinly. “That was so long ago," he said with a tired sigh. "I’m afraid I don’t have much time left to keep you company.”

Whis let his staff fall close to him and a warmth seeped into his body. He gasped, looking down at the thin age-marked skin of his hands and arms. The imperfections faded and his sagging skin filled out with healthy muscle once more.

“You . . .” he breathed out as he looked back up and met Beerus' gaze

“I told you he could have you in this life, but he would not have your death as well.”

Trunks looked towards Whis. “Did you . . .”

“You’re not immortal," the angel said crisply. "Not really, but my power will keep you young so long as it’s what Lord Beerus wishes for.”

The cat-like creature stepped forward. “It’s time for your ending, Prince. The peace you earned.”

He all but sagged as he nodded, and Whis created the bubble around them.

Prince Trunks of the House of Vegeta disappeared from the planet mere moments after the death of his lover. Some theorized that he’d killed himself, others that he’d gone into space for one last battle. Still others believed that he’d ascended even higher than the god-like power of Blue or Rosé and would one day return if the planet ever needed him again.

Notes:

Apologies to everyone who waited so long for this story to finally be complete. These last few parts . . . I had really wanted to further flesh them all out into individual chapters, but I just couldn't really get much further with them. It's been so long, that I decided to just post what I'd written and wrap this up.

I know this is probably not the ending any of you envisioned for this, but I think that within canon, this ending made the most sense. Raditz did terrible things before meeting Trunks, and he will inevitably spend some time in the hell dimension, but I think he would find a way to leave that and make his way to heaven to be with the rest of his family. I also don't think Trunks will be with Beerus for eternity. I think it's merely one more stop in his long journey.

I really hope you all enjoyed the story. :)
