Summary
The halls of Hogwarts remain the same as Snape walks through them one more time on that first day of September. It is the beginning of the course, the war finished in May, and now students giggle and talk and chatter excitedly as every other year, but it makes Severus frown. It almost feels as if the war never happened, as if nothing changed.
Severus shouldn't have survived the war, he never intended to, and yet here he is, once again locked in that bloody castle with students he hates. And with him.

but sometimes he sticks around to ask questions, and severus always answers them; it’s when he stays late one winter afternoon that severus manages to lose track of time, and when he looks up it’s almost dark.
“shit,” severus says. horror dawns on potter’s face. “we’re going to have to shelter at the school. i don’t—”
they both look up as there’s a honking horn. “hey!” comes a voice. “need a ride?”
