As much as the world had been shifted on its axis, as much as the ground had fallen out from under Bucky's feet when he slid off that metal table and fell damsel-like into Steve’s massive arms--that was how much everything overcorrected. The whole world around Bucky snapped into precise colors, sharp and clean lines, brilliant details, crisp sounds. Like new paints, new clothes, a new record on a new phonograph.
Voice entirely flat, eyes locked on Steve’s face, he said, “You what.”
“I’m proven now,” Steve said, like that made any sense, or was any kind of real goddamn reason to continue to go on risking his neck when he had a perfectly stupid, perfectly safe gig as Captain America. “So they’re willing to send me out to fight Hydra--”
“Go back to Brooklyn,” Bucky snapped.

At first Bucky didn’t know what Steve was trying to do, just wrapping his fingers around Bucky’s and holding on for a minute. Then he thought maybe Steve was feeling a little dizzy and stooped to put his bowl on the floor, holding tighter to the fingers in his grip while he did so. “Feelin’ alright?” he asked, scooting closer on the bed. Steve’s cup was mostly empty, nestled between his legs and surrounded by careless folds of blanket. He was looking, Bucky thought with deep-rooted worry, a little red around the face and ears. More so than yesterday, that was for sure.

“Satoru, behave,” comes Suguru’s chiding voice from the kitchen.
Satoru gapes. “What?”
Suguru’s head pokes out. “Not you, I was talking to the cat.”
“The cat?”
The cat in question is staring balefully at Satoru. He doesn’t look half-bad—once dried out, his fur had fluffed up to nearly double its overall size, and with his eyes open, Satoru can see they’re an unusual shade of blue.
“Yeah,” Suguru responds, and there’s an unspoken obviously in his tone.

“I’m in love with Satoru,” Suguru says, for what he thinks must be the fourth time in the past hour.
“So you’ve said,” Shoko says, sounding wearier than she has any right to be. “You want the good news or the bad news?” Suguru opens his mouth to answer, but Shoko apparently deems the answer unnecessary as she continues. “The good news is I’ve figured out what’s wrong with you, the bad news is that you probably won’t like it.”
Suguru stares at Shoko, hoping he doesn’t have to vocalize his obvious question.
“Whatever’s blocking your cursed energy also has the ability to stop you from saying certain things—those certain things being lies,” she clarifies. At Suguru’s blank stare, she adds, “Basically, your body is forcing you to tell only the truth for the time being.” She shrugs. “If you try to resist, well. You know what happens.”
Suguru continues staring at Shoko.
“So it’s true, then?” he says slowly. “I’m in love with Satoru?”
