The older man’s smile deepens. “Oh, I know him very well. You may not believe it, but I was even his favorite, once.”
Wei Ying snorts. “Impossible! Shushu’s only ever had one favorite, and that’s me!”
“Perhaps,” the handsome man says, “but how old do you think I am?”
Wei Ying squints again. Looking closer, he’s now noticing the faint hint of crow’s feet around the man’s eyes when he smiles.
“I must be older than you by a good decade or two,” the man hums. “So, it is not too impossible that I could have grown up under your Lan-shushu’s care, too.”

Summary
There aren't many things that Wei Ying is certain of in life. Most days, he's not certain of even himself. But Lan Zhan has always been an exception to that. His level ground, unbudged through the worst of storms. Lan Zhan is the one certainty that keeps him grounded, the pillar Wei Ying leans on when the world feels like it's running away from him.
And all of a sudden, his level ground felt titled. It was shaky and unbalanced.
