His maker suddenly seems distracted. He stumbles a step backward, raising his flask of wine to his lips. He looks over his shoulder, past Lestat’s body, and smiles—a smile he had shown in life only at the moment of death.
“Uh, how delightful. I wish I’d had the same idea.”
Lestat turns his head, doing so as gently as he can. His throat screeches with unreasonable pain at the effort. Behind him, nothing but himself. Himself, and then himself again, turned upside down. A hole where his mouth should be. The same filth trickling down between his legs, tracing its outline.
“Can you hear them, Lelio? They’re coming back—my time is up.”

The Fang Gang manages to bring Lestat back to their house.

Marius puts his quill down and into the black velvet box he keeps it in. He’s heard enough.
Slowly, he turns around so he faces the scene. They’re beautiful, Marius already knew that, of course, but it doesn’t affect him less when he gets to see them like this. His Amadeo’s back tensing and relaxing with every thrust, holding his weight on his arms so he can gaze at the flushing cherub under him. Marius has the urge to paint them, to immortalise them on a canvas– no, a wall, to assure such beauty will endure until the end of time. Perhaps he will, later. He’s got more pressing issues now.
