Ch 19
Truly so freaking good!! The Neverland worldbuilding is absolutely incredible, so amazing, and I love all of the characters so much. Definitely subscribing in case the muse returns and life allows. It's super fun to see a Neverland AU with a Hook who just left it, and Wendy and Will are great, as are the smaller characters like Tink and Tiger Lilly. Emma going through this development (magic + discovering herself) without the additional pressure of Henry, Regina or her parents is really interesting too.

Loving this!! Steve's ideas of the nature of the Upside Down monsters (like the Weeping Angels but hunters) is so good, and his fear of them is so tangible, and I love that he still wound up helping Dustin but that things are skewed a bit.

Later, Steve will piece what happens next in this way: D’art, kept in the bus to prevent the other demo-dogs from freeing him and gaining another ally, supposed to be securely trussed up, actually spent the last several hours oozing enough acid to slowly degrade the smart-fiber net holding him hostage. D’art freed himself while Steve and the kids were defending the bus. D’art, suddenly freed and sensing, in the way all creatures of the Upside Down seem to, that Steve, is, by his very nature, the antithesis of everything they were, lunges for Steve, flower-face opening and closing on Steve’s leg, hundreds of teeth digging into his calf muscle.This is, of course, utterly excruciating.
Steve will blame himself for many things later: for being overconfident, for believing he and a pack of kids stood a chance against the things in the woods, for being unprepared, for not being the kind of Time Lord his father is.
Steve will not blame himself for what happens next simply because it’s too absurd to have even crossed his mind as a possibility.

It’s not like Anakin Skywalker asked to lose his mother, or have the scar from that day, or to be the Chosen One. In fact until Professor Windu had shown up at Cousin Owen’s house before his 11th birthday, he hadn’t even known that magic was the name for what he could do.
