Watching your two best friends fall in love with each other is probably easier when you aren’t in love with both of them.
Nerissa wouldn't know.

Summary
Inevitable, beyond the mere concept of inevitability. Kafka had been one of the best before she retired at a mere twenty-five, and it had been sheer talent that propelled her there. Even back then, Himeko had known—Kafka was a storyteller, and not even five years of retirement could snuff out that flame.
It’s an issue. A big one.
Because if Kafka gets this role, then the ghost becomes flesh. The phantom gets a call sheet, a trailer, a wardrobe rack. Three months of shared scenes and early mornings and Yao Guang’s terrifyingly intimate notes on eye contact. If Kafka gets this role, Himeko will have to stand across from her every single day and pretend that the last five years did not leave a strange little bruise somewhere beneath her ribs.
or, they're actresses, Kafka reemerges after five years of radio silence, and Himeko wonders what the hell she did to deserve this.

Yet when an accident occurs and the Archiver is left with a story ripped at the seams titled ‘Shiori Novella’, it is up to her closest friends to retell the story she had left with them so she can archive it once more.
