    Summary

Gambit gently places his hand over her abdomen, splaying his fingers wide, and Rogue can feel the heat of him seep through the fabric of her shirt. They both watch for a few moments as his hand rises and falls with the rhythm of her breathing.

He laughs a little, still in disbelief. “You really think there's something in there?”

     ***

Rogue and Gambit suffer a terrible loss.
A study in hope, grief, and a love that persists through it all.

What to say? What could she say?

    But she speaks.

    “I am your emergency contact?”

Rogue does not startle. She doesn’t even turn her eyes up towards Ororo, too entranced with the little swaddled bundle lying on her chest. A fact so endearing and so distressing, that her friend will not look her in the eyes.

Storm grapples with the death of her best friend, Rogue's disappearance, and a precious surprise.
