Her breath catches in her throat, and she slowly lifts her gaze to the entryway. It doesn’t occur to her that she should hastily try to obscure the duffel bag next to her or wipe her tears away with the back of her shaking hand until she locks eyes with Thirteen, and at that point it’s too late. Thirteen’s eyebrows knit together, and her worried stare sweeps across Cameron like a lighthouse beam.

Superman looks down at the street silently, just like Eve had been. A passing group’s laughter is carried up to them with the wind.
“Do you ever feel lonely?” Eve asks. “Like, there’s no one in the world who really cares that you exist?”
Superman puts a steady hand on her knee. “I care that you exist, Eve.”
Eve hums. It’s sweet, if empty. She’s pretty sure Superman is like, legally required to care that every single person exists. So it doesn’t really count. She doesn’t need to say that, though.

Summary
Max knows that it will be hard to get Steve to forget about her. She knows that he is the type of person to give up everything for someone who doesn’t give him anything in return. But she also knows he is busy: she knows Dustin isn’t the same since Starcourt, that Robin is the partner in crime he always needed, that his job is time-consuming and his parents are still traveling and the Russians messed up his head so he can’t move without wincing.
She thinks that between all of the people he has to care for, all of the things he has to take care of, she thinks maybe she can slip through the cracks. If she really tries. If she crafts it just right.
She’s too optimistic.

Summary
Jamie doesn’t know how he got to Roy’s house. He thinks he must’ve broken a few driving laws, or else he ran here. He’s not sure which is worse.
All he knows is he’s standing in front of Roy’s door, and his fingers are red with blood from the cut under his eye, and he wants to go to sleep and never wake up.
Roy’s already in bed, probably, and he’s gonna be fucking angry to be woken up. Maybe Jamie should just go home. Sleep it off. Skip practice tomorrow.
But Roy said to come. He sat Jamie down all serious-like and said if his Da got within ten fucking feet of him, to come to his place. Jamie’s just trying to do what he said.
