Summary
With everything happening, a deep, nauseating feeling had taken root, feeding the fear that the people he loved would eventually leave him. The feeling deepened at every ignored text or declined invitation.
One moment, they would be there; the next, they’d be gone. Buck would be left watching them walk away, powerless to stop it.
When Maddie left for Boston the first time, Buck knew in advance. When she didn’t come with him when he left Hershey, she at least wrote a letter. And when she left again after the accident with Jee and her postpartum struggles, she had come by to see him.
