Bookmarker's Notes
Well written and raw. Xena and Gabrielle are dark and complicated characters in this one and their relationship is so complex. The conquerer and her gladiator slave that can’t help but be drawn to each other, but still keeps hurting the other. Xena walking a tightrope as she struggles to control her empire, Gabrielle becoming something beyond a weapon. Things are falling apart around them, but they’re still glad they’ve found each other even with all the suffering.

Summary
The Growing is the story of such a post-apocalyptic vision, and of the brave men and women who give everything they have to save the world from its eventual destruction. It is also the story of two lonely hearts, bitter enemies at first, who learn to trust and to love again in a world falling down all around them. Koda Rivers is a Lakota veterinarian and shaman whose roots run deep in her culture and in the soil of her native Black Hills. Kirsten King, Ph.D., is a brilliant cyberscientist and the sole surviving member of President Hillary Clinton's Cabinet. Each drawn by her own mission to destroy the androids, they meet in fire and blood at the North Dakota facility where the insurgent machines are manufactured. The Growing has all the bells and whistles of a classical epic: sweeping battles, a heroic love story, Amazon warriors, a blind bard, the gods of the land and a monster or two. The challenges present are met by our two heroes and their companions. These include Dakota's remarkable father and her warrior brother, Tacoma; Maggie Allen, USAF Colonel and crack pilot; an extraordinary German Shepherd named Asimov; and the spirits of the land in their various forms.

Bookmarker's Notes
Long post-apocalypse epic with heavy Lakota influence. Writers have personal knowledge and it shows. I was very intrigued by the intertwining of Lakota culture with the story and the development of their relationship, as well as both characters’ struggle with being leaders of this new world.

Victoria Dallon and Lisa Wilbourn, Earth Gimel’s most notorious pair of not-friends, might just be starting to become actual friends. But neither of them would ever admit it - right? Post-Ward, canon-continuation slice-of-life.

Summary
Melinoë looks back at the corpse prince. As she watches, parts of him begin rotting, melting into blood; his gray skin bubbles and peels and falls into the ground, his muscles going to liquid, and she sees his bones and his innards and then straight through him for a terrible few seconds before she wrenches her eyes back up to his face. His eyes are vacant, glassy. They hold all the certainty of a mirror. She says his name, unable to help herself. And then his eyes, too, are gone, melting into the ground with the rest.
Melinoë picks up the bloodied scrap with a shaking hand, tucks it among the rest of her things, and continues towards Olympus.

melinoë reaches the threshold of olympus. a threat she cannot hope to match is waiting for her there.
