The Rejectisms - a band of part-mechanical immortal space pirates, regarded as failed experiments by the vampire scientist who created them, Dr Carmilla. Now they roam the stars, getting up to various mischief, and playing truly, truly terrible music.
(this is a series of ocs created by various mechs fans, with the prompt of mechanisms that are somewhat pointless, e.g. appendix. these are disconnected standalone stories that appear in no particular order)

    Summary

And now it’s been three years. Meryl looks at the calendar, then back at Nicholas, the man who she almost lost just five months later. Who she now lives with, a stone’s throw away from the orphanage where he grew up, a living reminder of the fact that he never had a mother to cry-not-cry over in the first place. Meryl bites down again on the inside of her cheek.

“My mom died,” Meryl says, “three years ago… today.” Her eyes drift, unseeing, back to the calendar. “I don’t really know what to do with myself.”

Nicholas tilts his head. It would be a fully neutral look if not for his eyes, which have softened. Biggest reason why he wears the sunglasses, Meryl imagines—or, well, the second biggest, with the fact that they live on a desert planet being the first. Still, Meryl would call his expression more assessing than fully worried, his lips tugging into a purse and then flattening out into a straight line.

“Alright.” Nicholas leans over and plants a kiss against her forehead. “What’d she like for breakfast?”

    “What?”

The death anniversary of Meryl's mother arrives. Her partners see to her needs.

“Sure are a lot of stars out here tonight,” Milly says. “Like yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that…”
“Hold the flashlight straight, Milly.” Meryl lies underneath the truck and uses the wrench to fix the issue. “And don’t drop the car on me.”
    “Right, right! I would never!”

    Summary

    “You’ve never?” Vash asks.

“Don’t make me say it,” Wolfwood says, “Where the fuck would I, anyway?”

Vash turns this over in his head, fingers tapping against the sheets. “It wouldn’t be a terrible idea,” he says, finally, “Not if — not if we wanted to.”

“We?” Wolfwood asks, his body shifts minutely, arms relax ever so slightly.

    “Yeah,” Vash breathes, “We.”

Wolfwood lays there in complete silence for longer than is really comfortable, Vash practically holding his breath from the anticipation.

Finally, Wolfwood makes a noise of frustration and sits up completely, turning the light on the bedside table on.

Vash blinks in the light, not a physical response but one that he’s learned makes it less unnerving for other people. Wolfwood is sitting up, staring at him, the blankets pooled around his hips. Vash tries not to stare, bringing his eyes back up to Wolfwood’s face.

“Okay,” Wolfwood says, “I want you to say that again, but where I can fucking see you this time.”

“We could,” Vash replies immediately, “If you want to.”

    Summary

The man shrugs. “I wouldn’t know,” he says. “I can’t remember a single thing in my life that happened before. It’s like I fell out of the sky.”

“Not a single thing?” asks Vash.

“Nothing except my name,” says the man. “Nicholas D. Wolfwood.”
