He was twenty when the last ember burned away.
He remembered it so clearly, it could have been yesterday. Waking alone in his apartment, staring up at the ceiling for a long time trying to reach it again. Trying to recall what they’d told him in his head, what those long dead faces looked like.
It was so empty. It was nostalgic; he hadn’t felt this way in years.
But it felt familiar, like walking into his childhood home. He hadn’t visited in a while.
It wasn’t new. It wasn’t sad. It was just there. The last nail in the coffin.
He remembered sobbing for hours. He called into his classes, didn’t go to campus for a week. Everyone thought he’d caught a late-season case of the flu.
He’d called Kacchan that morning, but he hadn't answered. Izuku didn’t actually tell him the truth for another month.

Summary
In which, instead of finding the Child on Arvala-7, the Mandalorian tracks him to a small town on Tatooine. The child's self-proclaimed protector has a set of stolen Mandalorian armor, which just won't do. Din decides to take them both with him, to get his money and return the armor to his kin.
Little does he know what path this decision will set them all on, for better or worse.
(Or, a canon divergence AU where Mando meets Cobb at the very beginning.)
