Summary
Robby gave a valiant effort at connecting the dots. “You didn’t look at her like that, Frank. The two of you were roommates, yeah, and close friends. There was never a moment in this past year that I thought…” he trailed off, rubbing a hand across his jaw.
“That we were dating?” Frank finished. He turned his attention back to the bed where Mel was hooked up to IVs and an abundance of wires.

Summary
"You're only hurting her. You know that, right?" Robby asked, and it was the only thing that seemed to crack the hardened expression on Langdon's face. "You being here? Being with her? The only thing that's doing is dragging her down. You think anyone is going to respect a doctor that had an affair with a drugged-up attending in the same department? You're hurting her- you're letting this happen to her!"
"I would rather fucking die than let anything happen to her," came the answering roar from Langdon as he towered over Robby, his breath coming shaky and fast.
"Well then maybe you fucking should, huh?" Robby screamed back, shoving him in the chest with both hands. "Maybe you should do both her and yourself a favor and just fucking leave and never come back."
Or: Robby tells Langdon Mel would be better off without him. He listens.

Summary
“I’m jealous.” It escapes before she can let herself back out, “That my sister has a sex life, and I don’t.”
She doesn’t know why she’s admitting that to him. She honestly doesn’t. It’s embarrassing.
“Right there with you.” His voice is low, “How long–?”
She chews at the bottom of her lip, doing the mental math, “Three years…You?”
“Thirteen months.”
Warmth pools in between her legs, and she clutches his hand like it’s a lifeline.
It’s barely a whisper, she’s so afraid to say it,
“Close the trunk.”
---
“Wait, holy shit, King–” The wand stills inside of her as Trinity freezes the frame.
“What?” She asks, “God, it didn’t nick something, did it? I’m not about to bleed to death?”
“No, but you might pass out.” Trinity answers, “Maybe?”
“What is it?” She tries to sit up, but Trinity’s already turning the ultrasound monitor around to show her.
Her heart stills as she takes in the tiny flickering heartbeat on the screen in front of her, “Oh–”

Summary
“Cute, but uh,” Frank chuckled at her act of sudden modesty, slightly mocked her even, “married—” he waved his left hand in the air “—you're obviously going through a lot right now, and plus, it wouldn’t be fair.”
Mel itched to say it was unfair now, with his dumb, tousled hair she wanted to tug, that cruel way he occupied her thoughts, and the fact that she couldn't kiss him without seeing his father’s face. None of it was fair to her. She never had the urge to balance the scales before—her life thus far had been tragedies and exits; she let them all go—until now.
So Mel said the thing she wasn't supposed to say.
“Not too sure if I like my boyfriend how I’m supposed to, or how I like you.”
Mel accidentally falls for her boyfriend's father.
